Lost

Insert this piece of dialogue into a short story.  The story needs to be three pages-it is due at the end of class tomorrow.

"I think we should go this way," Jane said, pointing.

Mark nodded. "You're right."

"The other way might be better," Steve said, determination etched on his face.

"No, I think Jane's right," Martha said.

  1. “Are you serious?” Said Steve, his face now twisted into pure anger. “Don't turn this into another heated argument, Steve.” Said Jane. “Nows not the time, not when they’re chasing after us.” In the distance, the sounds of gears whirring and metal clanking against the floor could be heard. “Fine, fine. Lets go your way.” Said Steve. Steve and Martha both followed Jane. Just as they disappeared from sight, three robots appeared, standing where Jane, Martha and Steve stood. The three robots had a black metallic chest, white metallic arms and legs, and no heads. On their chests were symbols, all exactly alike: Two gears, with a sword going through them, and a faceless mask hanging off the sword. “Query: Where have the heathens gone?” Said one robot. “Statement: Unknown. I will begin a scan of all organic life forms.” Said another. The top of its head opened, and a strange object came out of its head. A wide, tall beam of red light began to move around the area for a moment, before the object returned into the robot's chest. “Assessment: No humanoid life forms have been found. However, traces of their existence in this sector is prevalent.” “Command: Follow their trail. We shall capture them and execute them. For the Vigil!” Said the third robot. “For the Vigil!” They all repeated. They all began to follow the trail Jane, Martha, and Steve took.

  2. Steve, Martha, and Jane all stopped at a clearing, panting. “I… I think we’ve lost them.” Said Jane, taking a deep breath. “Uugh… Damn it, Jane. We would’ve been living a nice, peaceful life if you had’nt spoken up like you did…” Said Steve, breathing heavily. “If she didn't, those children would’ve… “Transcended”.” Said Martha, leaning up against a tree. “And look what that got us. We’re now branded as traitors, and those children STILL Transcended. Nice going, Jane.” Said Steve. In the distance, the sound of metal clanking against metal was heard. “Damn it… They catch up fast.” Said Jane. “Come on, we have to get going, guy--” Before Jane could start to run again, six more robots appeared behind them, with the other three showing up as well. “Command: Halt! As decreed by Exaarch Infinitus of the Vigil, you all are to be apprehended for high treason.” Spoke one robot. “Damn it, we’re surrounded!” Yelled Steve. “Command: Do not attempt to escape, or we will open fire.” Said another robot, holding a silver rifle in its hands. Jane, Steve, and Martha all begrudgingly put their hands up, realizing that they were caught, and likely going to face execution. Two robots came close to them, placing a set of lustrous, steel cuffs on them. “Query: Infinitus said to execute them as soon as they were apprehended. Would it not be more efficient to execute them right now?” Questioned one robot. “Statement: You speak wisely.” Said the one holding the rifle. “No! Would’nt Infinitus--” Before Steve could finish his statement, the robot holding the rifle slammed the butt of his gun on the back of his head, forcing him to kneel. “Response: You dare speak the Infinite’s name with your traitorous mouth? Your death shall be swift, organic scum.” spoke the robot holding the rifle, as he aimed the rifle down towards Steve. Before he could pull the trigger, a clanking noise could be heard around them, as well as something rolling. “Alert: A grenade ha--” An explosion erupted from out of nowhere, and Jane and Martha both closed their eyes, believing their deaths were rapidly approaching. However, instead of red hot shrapnel and fire blasting out of the grenade, an electromagnetic pulse slowly engulfed the area. All of the robots began to shake and stutter, their insides being destroyed due to the magnetic pulse. “What the hell?” Said Steve, looking as the pulse of energy destroyed the robots. The electromagnetic pulse vanished, and all the robots dropped to the ground, not moving. “Huh…?” said Martha, opening her eyes. “Who threw that E.M.P grenade? How did they even get an E.M.P grenade? All electromagnetic objects were purged long ago!”

  3. aid Steve, getting up. Jane, Martha and Steve looked around at the non-functioning robots, and sighed a sigh of relief. Steve picked up the silver rifle, however, he was unable to fire it while handcuffed. “Damn. I would’ve hoped they used laser cuffs instead of the normal platinum ones.” Steve, Martha and Jane all looked around, trying to figure out how they were miraculously saved. All around them, the shadows were moving, the bushes rustling and shaking. Steve, although unable to fire the gun, readied himself. “Alright! Whos there? Come out, or i’ll shoot!” The bushes suddenly stopped moving. “You cant fire. Not like that…” Said a voice in the shadows. Steve began to tremble, as he continued to whip around. “Steve, calm do--” Before Jane could finish, a net was thrown over all three of them, quickly ensnaring them. “Hey! I thought you were on our side! Isnt that why you saved us?” Said Martha, struggling to get out of the net. There was a clicking noise, and the net emitted a massive electric shock. Martha, Steve, and Jane all screamed in agony, before passing out.
Jane groaned, and awoke inside of a prison cell, alone. She attempted to get up, however, there was a gigantic ball and chain attached to her legs. “Where am I…? Where are m-my friends…?” Jane looked around the cell and outside the cell. There were steel walls and gigantic curcuit boards everywhere, glowing a neon blue as electricity flowed through it. “Where am--” A thunderous clang rung through her cell, and she covered her ears. A large jailer came into view, but was shadowed by the circuit boards lights. “Welcome to X.F.” Said the shadow. The voice. The voice was low and deep, with a slight raspiness.
