Burnt marshmallows

You and your three closest friends decide to go camping. You arrive and set up camp nearly three miles away from where you left your car. Late that evening, as you sit around the campfire roasting marshmallows, one of your friends reveals a deep, dark secret that turns what was to be a fun weekend into one of the scariest weekends of your life. Create a story based upon this plot line. It must be at least two pages and is due tomorrow at the end of the period.

  1. My three best friends Jaylina, Cat, and Diana and I decide to go camping, 5 miles away from our house. We were so excited to go because our parents were so strict on us that they barley let us have sleepovers on the weekends. So this weekend it was Diana birthday and we all gathered our things and a tent for us to camp at South Side Lake. It was beautiful there it was like the beach. This lake where we decided to camp at was 3 miles away from our car so we had to go back and forth to our car to get our belongs. Me, Cat, and Jaylina wanted to surprise Diana for her birthday so we can make her feel happy as ever because her and her boyfriend had a awful break up before we left to go to the lake. When we have arrived at the lake it was 6’ o’clock in the evening so the four of us decided to go get logs for our campfire.

  2. So far we were having the best time of our lives we went swimming in the lakes, we built our tent, we made smores with the marshmallows we brought before we got there. It was the best time of our lives, we didn’t want the night to end so we decide to walk around the lake and see what interesting things we can find. We really didn’t find anything interesting so we just continue our walk through the path that lend us to this cabin that looked so scary. We heard scary music and we told one another that we would not get as close to the house so we stayed far away from it because it looked dangerous for us to go look inside. As we preceded to walk away we heard someone screaming we didn’t know where it came from at first, so we ran up the path and hide for a couple of minutes. As we got up we heard the same scream but we realized that it was coming from the cabin, it was a very loud scream that it would hurt your ears, which it did. We walked back to our tents and we realized that our tent was knocked over it was so strange that our tent was knocked over because it took us 10 minutes to built it up. We went go walk three miles to our car because we had to get the blow up machine to blow it up again. We got the surprise birthday cake for Diana that had her favorite feeling in it; it was chocolate with vanilla inside it. This was going to be the best times of our lives. It was the four best friends for the whole weekend. Once we said that we had a surprise for Diana her eyes opened wide as ever to see what it was, we showed her the cake, she began to cry and tell all of us thank you and that she was having the best birthday ever. We began to eat the cake and made up a game where we tell each other our secrets. We thought it was cool because we are all best friends and we can trust each other so we shouldn’t have to hide anything from one another. So we began to play Jaylina told us that she once tried a drug that she never knew about. I told that I cheated on all my quizzes for a year straight without getting caught. Cat said that she kept a diary in her room and she wrote positive and negatives comments about people including her best friends. Diana also had so much to say because she was the most popular girl in our school our boy loved her. Diana told us not to tell anyone about it that she sells drugs for living instead of working a store a near by mall. Everyone including myself looked at Diana strange because she was one year older then they and us were shocked that she was selling drugs. They were also concerned about whom she got it from and how long this was going on for. Diana didn’t have any

  3. answers for their questions she thought that none of this concerned her friends and it had nothing to do with them at all. Jaylina of course said that she wanted to know every detail about this or she wasn’t going to her friend anymore. Diana still continued to say nothing to them about what she was doing be hide there back they felt hurt and betrayed. They thought she was going to tell them since they have been friends for a very long time. They felt as thought there shouldn’t be any secrets in their friendship because they mad a promised that they would tell each other things. Diana was shocked because didn’t want these girls to stop being her friend for no reason. She began to tell them “I started selling drugs when I was a freshmen in high school” Jaylina says “ that has been three years ago that you have kept this hidden from us. “Cat had nothing to say she was speechless she just felt that this was a secret for three years now. In a couple of hours it was almost tie for us to leave and head back home, Diana said she had a good weekend but me, Cat, Jaylina did not have a good weekend at all.

  4. 1st page of the story

The school year finally ended and the first thing on my mind was going on a camping trip with two of my friends. There was a giant piece of wilderness I plan on taking my friends. The bad thing about the camping site, is that I have to park three miles away from my camping spot. Also, there are murder rumors surrounding the area, however, I doubt anything bad is going to happen on this trip. So, it was the first day of summer, I packed my bags that day because I didn’t feel like doing it the night before. I contacted my friend to make sure they were able to make it, and they were. I was so excited, I’ve never been on a camping trip before. I brought a lot of stuff to make sure we are comfortable while on our trip. I picked up my friend Justin from his home. Right when he got situated in the car, he started to tell me about the murders that went on near the camping site. Justin isn’t the smartest person, so I didn’t believe him.
I told him, “Justin, those are just rumors, nothing will happen.”
I picked up my other friend Jim. As soon as I pulled up to his house, I noticed how scared he was. He hesitated at first, but finally got in the car. He seemed very disturbed but I didn’t bother asking him what was wrong. Him and I haven’t really been getting along lately and I think he has some sort of hate for me.
We finally got to the camping site and parked the car in a parking lot that was completely empty. We gathered all of our gear and headed towards the camping site. Later that night, after settling down, we gathered around the campfire and told stories. This is when everything changed. Jim told us a story, that made everyone tremble in fear. It was a story, about a killer, who slaughtered five people in this camping site. This is what jim said:
“Once, there were five friends sitting at a camp fire. Some random man came sprinting into the middle of the croud and started to scream. Imediately after letting out a crude shriek, he collapsed. Being very shocked; everyone stood there for a couple of seconds. After hesitating, some person tried to help him up. The person who collapsed, stabbed the helpful person in the stomach. Everyone started to panic and the person who collapsed, got up and smiled. That is when everyone noticed, his shirt was covered in blood. The scariest thing was the fact that the blood was dried up. So it couldn’t of been from the person who he just killed. As he was smiling, everyone noticed he had a plastic eye. It was very scary looking, he also had many scars on his face and had sharp teeth. No one had any weapons on them, so they only had the choice of running. This person sprinted to the next person and stabbed him. Everyone started to pick a hiding spot. In the end, everyone died. Actually, there was one person who survived. However, that person is now in an insane assylum. The news got out because there was someone who witnessed the event happen. People don’t know where that person is now.”
“It is best that we believe what he said, because this is where that event happened. Also, I thought you guys should know about this so you guys can keep an eye out. Hopefully, all of us will make it out of here alive.

  5. First page of the Story:

After months and months of planning the annual trip had arrived. I saw out of the corner of my eye Melanie stuffing pure white substances into the wayback of the trunk. I didn’t think much of it, probably marshmallows for the campfire. So, we continued to load up the hatchback and hopped in for an excruciating 10 hour drive.
The trees were high and strong. The greenery was blankets across the forests. All around was vibrant green leaves and rough brown trunks. Occasionally a furry squirrel will run across the asphalt giving the entire car a heart attack. Melanie, Brandon, and me, Zoe began to get restless and cramped. Having three bulky sleep bags, food supplies that could feed an army, a million suitcases, and a tent that was ten times bigger than the car, which made it quite uncomfortable.
We arrived and set up camp nearly three miles away from where we left the car. Late that evening, as we sat around the campfire roasting marshmallows, Melanie clears her throat and reveals the deepest darkest secret.
“Ummmm...so like I have something to tell you...like I kinda am in deep with like a deal. I kinda have been like selling ummm...” Melanie stuttered.
“It’s okay...you can tell us” Brandon reassured her.
She inhaled and exhaled “I have been selling cocaine and I have a deal that is going to be happening in the next two hours or so..” Melanie finally pushed out.
Brandon and I were speechless...I could not believe. I knew she was doing some heavy duty stuff, but I never imagined she would be selling...especially COCAINE!
After an hour of awkward silence and small talk. We finally spoke and everything seemed crumbling down. So many questions went through my mind. I wanted to know everything: why she got into it? why she continues to do it? how did everything happen? why she felt it was necessary to bring the drugs to our annual camping trip that is so special to all of us? At least I thought it was.
“So…” Melanie elongated the word. “I just felt like y’all needed to know. I couldn’t keep it a secret any longer.”
“I just do not know what to do right now. I do not know what to think” Brandon muttered.
“I’m just confused” I said, walking back and forth.
“Listen I know this is a lot take in but you guys are like my best friends and I need you guys to help me in case things don’t go down right.” she reached into her backpack and pulled out three guns, She cocked one of the guns. “Okay, each of you take a gun. Brandon you’ll come with me to the deal just in case. Zoe you stay behind with the cocaine and we’ll call you when it’s time to bring it up. Everyone ready?”
My head was spinning, when did my best friend turn into a psycho?
“Woah I’m not helping you with anything, good luck” Brandon said, backing away.
Melanie laughed and then pointed the gun straight at his chest. I screamed and Brandon put his hands up, his eyes wide.

  6. Second Page of the story:

“You guys are my friends but I need this money for college. Everything has gone downhill since my dad left me mom. She won’t return my calls, she refuses to pay for my education, she has fallen off
the planet Earth. So you ARE going to help me and if not then I’ll shoot you in the foot or maybe your hands. What do you think Brandon? Yanno, since you play the piano and all.” she said, an evil grin on her face.
I couldn’t believe my quiet friend Melanie was having such a rough life that she went towards this direction. I thought our bond of friendship was closer than this. If she needed money or someone to talk to you, but instead she let her problems get taken by drugs.
“Alright, I’ll go” I hesitantly responded. Brandon’s mouth drop. He never expected me to go along with it, but then neither did I. I just knew that Melanie wouldn’t ask unless she wasn’t sure the deal would go smoothly.
“You two are crazy. Good luck getting arrested” Brandon screamed as he threw the rifle down.
Bang, Shoot, Ah, The rifle had gone off...Someone got shot. I could smell the copper hints of blood, I saw the red slowly dripping off her hip. I heard the intense wailing screams from the pain. I knew it. Melanie had been shot.
“Get up!” Brandon yelled. “We have to leave!”
“We can’t just leave her. She’s our friend. She will die if we go.” I hollered back.
“There is illegal weapons and drugs. We have to go.” He responded. I have never seen Brandon act like this. He frantically ran around our campsite cleaning all fingerprints. Leaving everything that belonged to Melanie in the depths of the forest. It looked like we didn’t touch the campsite. It seemed like a normal hunting accident.
Melanie began to choke. I couldn’t bare it, I ran and flipped her body on its side. She threw up chunks of blood and the s’mores we had before. Before things went south. Before everything changed. Before three people went into the woods alive. Now only two will leave. When the other will leave in a body bag.
The tears couldn’t be kept back anymore. They flowed like a river. I didn’t know that something like this could happen to me. That my best friend would be involved with drugs and be dead moments later. I just didn’t want to believe that human errors could be cause such travesty.
“You got your story straight?” Brandon asked once we finally got back on the road. I didn’t want to have my story straight. I didn’t want to listen. I didn’t want to deal with the pain of my friend’s death. Soon someone or something will find Melanie’s body. It will be unrecognizable because she will have been eaten by some scraggly little animal. She won’t be the once beautiful blonde that everyone loved. In a couple of weeks police will come around asking questions and I will have to pretend that I know nothing. To think, throughout the entire investigation no one will have to tell her parents or siblings that she has past because they don’t care.
The only people who loved her let her die and that is something Brandon and I will live with forever. I will never forget the way her emerald green eyes looked at me for the last time as she slowly past.

  7. The day we went camping it was hot. The heat seemed to roll off the earth in waves, making our clothes stick to our backs and sweat drip down our necks. We climbed up a dirt path that would lead us into the forest, and the worst weekend of my life. My boyfriend Luke had suggested that we and our closest friends , Aimee and Ben, spend a week camping in the great wilderness. He said it would be perfect to have time together away from the the constant distraction of the world. So for weeks we planned the camping trip until there we were, climbing up the winding path into a world of green. Luke and Ben were in the front, talking about their favorite show and what characters they thought would die or end up being turned into evil beings. Aimee and I took up the back, with no complaints, we figured if we ran into something dangerous the boys could distract it as we got our asses out of there.
“So anything new with the lifeguard guy?” I asked, trying to give her my best scowl. Aimee just rolled her eyes and lifted her backpack higher onto her shoulders.
“Actually yes. I know you think he’s bad for me blah, blah, blah, but I like him. A, he’s hot and B, it’s the summer so I’m just having fun and figuring out what I want.” she said defensively.
“Aimee, I’m not trying to give you a hard time. It’s just, as your friend I’m supposed to look out for you and I don't want you to fall too hard and he’s not there falling with you, yanno?” I held up my hands in surrender before she could get a word out , “So I’m not gonna judge anymore, you have my word. But please tell me what happened with you too?!” ,I begged.
She laughed and was about to spill the beans when we reached the edge of the forest. Time seemed to stop, as if the world were taking a breath in awe of mother nature's handiwork. The sun rained down through the branches of the trees creating random spots of sunlight upon the emerald carpet; the trees’ roots sprung in and out of it, as if they were woven through this lush grass. The air seemed to drop as well from the smothering heat, to a comfortable warmth. A breeze rustled through the leaves, just as a sparrow fluttered to another branch. In that moment I felt privileged to be standing in the hush heavenliness of the forest. I looked at the others to see if they were feeling the same. Luke’s azure eyes were focused on the painting before us, his pink lips slightly parted in amazement. It may have been my high on nature but he looked even more beautiful. The sunlight made his caramel skin glow and the highlights of blonde in his curly brown hair shine brighter.
“I know you’re looking at me Lyla” ,he whispered, a smug smirk on his face.I pushed him playfully in the shoulder and began to walk underneath the canopy of green. He took my hand in his and swung it back and forth as we walked. The four of us hiked on for about an hour until we had finally reached our campsite. The wall of peeling bark, hanging branches, and leaves gave away to reveal an opening. The trees surrounding the clearing formed a perfect circle, that was bathed in sunlight. A few hours later ,after

  8. we had set up, the sun dipped beneath the earth and the full, pale moon sat high in the sky. The sky was no longer a baby blue color but it was covered in a navy blanket that twinkled in all the right places. We sat on our sleeping bags in front of a campfire;the flames licked at the expanse above. I sat next to Luke, my head on his shoulder and his arms wrapped around my waist. Aimee laid across from us on her stomach, propping her head up on her hands. Ben was comfortably seated in a folding chair since he refused to get his sleeping bag dirty.
“Okay let’s get this party started, should I tell some ghost stories?” Ben asked, rubbing his hands together and giving us, what I guessed was, an evil grin.
“Oh great, I’m dying of boredom and now I have to listen this goon tell some cliche story, no thanks.” Aimee sassed.
“Wow somebody’s grumpy, but I’m telling them anyway so get comfortable grandma.”
    “Shut up nerd”
“Why don’t you shut up, and let me tell the damn story, it’s not like you have anything better to do.” Ben snapped.
“Actually can we wait on that, I have something important that I need to get off my chest. “ Luke said as he unwrapped his arms from me and sat up straighter. He played with a silver ring on his finger in a nervous jitter. The ring had a red stone in the center of it and writings on the sides, I never noticed it until then.
“You may not believe what I’m about to tell you but it’s the truth. And I don’t want you guys to freak out. I’m in control and I’ve never killed anyone.” He took a deep breath and looked at me like it was the last time he would. “I love you Lyla, I love you all. Okay I’m..I’m...” he faltered and put his face in his hands.
I looked at Ben and Aimee, who looked equally confused and scared as I was.
“Nevermind, I can’t do this.” he mumbled through his hands.
I took his hands away from his face and held them tight.
“Luke look at me.” His sad eyes met mine. “Tell us, please. We’ll try to help you through whatever is going on but if you don’t, we’ll just have to assume that you’re the head of the drug cartel. “ I said. He gave me a weak laugh and squeezed my hands.
“Okay, I unproudly present me. I’m a vampire.” he choked out.
Before any of us could laugh at such a ridiculous statement, he opened his mouth to reveal two white fangs and his eyes glowed a bright, luminous blue. A chill crawled down my spine, the forest didn’t seem as pleasant as it once had. The trees looked like gnarled and twisted creatures surrounding us. The fire casted distorted shadows. The night too silent and dark.
“Lyla,” Luke began but I scooted away from him. As I moved away from him my hand got caught on a jagged branch that cut my finger. I looked at Luke whose expression turned from one of worry to hunger.

  9. My three closest friends and I decided to go camping. We arrived and set up camp nearly three miles away from where we left the car. Late that evening, as we sit around the campfire roasting marshmallows, one of my friends reveals a deep, dark secret that turns what was to be a fun weekend into one of the scariest weekends of our lives. Anijah, Alex, and Fatima wanted to go somewhere special in celebration of our graduation so I suggested to go camping. At first they were a bit hesitant, but I soon convinced them that it was a good idea. So we set off and then got the marshmallows out. The fire was soon started and everything was going well. Until Anijah prompted us to tell each other secrets that nobody knows. She wanted to see if we were all true friends. I knew she was testing us, but it looked like none of my other friends did. So to get the ball rolling, I challenged Fatima to go first. Since she was so innocent I figured she would either pass or it would be a simple secret that we all already secretly knew.

So she started her story. She told us that she once tried to hurt her past best friend, that the girl had hurt Fatima so bad that she wanted revenge. The girl had stolen her boyfriend of 2 years. So revenge was what she took. It was said that the girl was way too obsessed with her hair, so Fatima changed her hair spray from her gym locker to spray glue. When the girl started to spray her hair, her fingers got stuck, and so did her hair. And the entire time, Fatima was upstairs waiting for the punishment. But the punishment never came because she was never accused by the girl. Fatima said she felt bad ever since she did it, and now she can’t even look at glue without feeling horrible. Fatima apologized to her and even tried to help her; she didn’t want to see or hear from Fatima ever again. It was said that the girl never came back to our school, and she was never heard from again. So after we all made Fatima feel better, we continued on with the secrets.

Now of course my secret was pathetic, but no one knew it. Alex and Anijah laughed at me while Fatima rubbed my shoulder to make me feel better about what I had done. Alex and Anijah were the dangerous ones in our group, they looked danger in the face and laughed. I blushed after telling my story as they continued to fight over who was to go next. Anijah said her secret was the best so she should be last, but Alex refused and said she should be last. Finally I had gotten tired of the arguing and proposed a proposition. I stated that whoever could swim across the lake and back, could go last. So they stripped down and put on their bathing suits. I knew the water was icy cold, so I waited for one of them to jump out of the water and scream. But neither of them did so I raised an eyebrow and quickly walked to the edge of the lake. I could see Alex’s blonde hair above the water, but I couldn’t see Anijah’s black hair above the dark water. So I told Fatima to grab a bunch of towels, and she rushed back to me. We waited for them to come up from the water but it was soon fifteen minutes and I was getting worried, until I saw Alex’s hair from my peripheral vision and I smiled and waited for her to hop out of the water. She was handed a towel by Fatima and she immediately started to shiver. Once we got her dried off and her shivering slowed, I questioned her while Fatima waited for Anijah by the edge. Alex said that Anijah was in front of her on the way to the other side, but then once she turned around, she hadn’t seen her. I knew that Anijah was either stuck or she was playing the most damaging joke on us she ever had.

  10. So the first thought I had was to call 911; the operator told me to stay on the phone, but I couldn’t let one of my best friends get hurt, so I put Fatima on the phone and I jumped into the lake. It was freezing cold, but I knew Anijah could’ve been under the water for who knows how long. That kept me going, and I was just about to give up. Until I saw it. I saw Anijah’s bright red bathing suit and I swam after the sight. I finally reached her and I pulled her above the water. When we reached the side the paramedics were waiting and they performed CPR on her. She coughed and sputtered, and from that point on, we vowed never to go camping ever again.

  11. “Why wouldn’t we?” I questioned. “It’s not like that’s going to happen.”
Even though I sounded confident, I was really scared and actually considered Jim’s story to be true. Later that night, I went into my tent to get my phone. While looking through my messages, I heard a very loud shriek coming from the camp fire. I looked over and saw Justin laying on the camp ground. I went over to his body and saw a lot of blood and realized he wasn’t breathing. I imediately thought about the story I was told and tried to find Jim. However, I couldn’t find him. I saw a shadow of a figure by the fire and there was the person, standing there. I couldn’t believe this was happening. I panicked, the first thing I did was run. As I ran, I looked behind me and saw him running after me. He was gaining on me really fast. He was about three feet behind me and I decided to punch him, however, he shook it off really quick and stabbed me in the back. I couldn’t believe what was happening. I thought to myself about the way I was going to die.
“Is this the way I want to go out?”
I refused to die this way, just as he was about to finish me off, I ran off to the end of the campsite, and my car wasn’t there. Then, I saw my car pull up and Jim was inside of it.

  12. “Ah, can you smell that you guys?” I asked taking in a deep breath.
“My soul slowly dying?” Berkeley grumbled walking past me into the clearing. The rest of the group laughed following him with their bags.
“No, you party pooper. I mean the great outdoors!” I smiled following them.
“Yeah, no I’m definitely smelling my soul rot away,” he said tossing his bags onto the ground.
“If you were going to be so gloomy why even come Berk?” Sadie asked starting to unpack her tent.
“Because I have a real reason for why I can’t answer Jessica’s calls,” he smiled unpacking his tent and snacks.
“She can still call you on your cell you know,” Kiefer replied sitting on a log.
“No service out here,” I responded pulling out my sleeping bag. “You seriously only came out here to run away from your crazy girlfriend?”
“Well it’s not like I wanted to spend time with you losers.”
“Ow,” Sadie exclaimed throwing a hand over her heart. “Hurtful much.”
“I’m kidding you big baby,” he laughed taking a seat next to Kiefer.
“Guys, it’s starting to get dark and I’m hungry” Kiefer complained grabbing onto his stomach. Sadie threw a bag of chocolate and marshmallows at him.
“Do you think you can sustain yourself on those, Columbo?” she asked pulling out other snacks.
“No I cannot!” She then tossed him some graham crackers and skewers. “Now I can survive!” He smiled ripping open the bags.
“We should tell scary stories.” Berkeley suggested an evil smile working its way to his face.
“It’s barely even dark,” I said starting up the fire.
“So? We can get the scary mood started now so we’re all freaked out when the moon goes down,” he said face completely devious.
“Okay, sure. Who wants to go first?” Sadie looking around the group.

    1. “I’ll go first!” Kiefer said mouth full of chocolate. We all shrugged in agreement and gave him our full attention. “Okay, this is based off of a true story. Well all of it is true. Except the names, those have been changed for legal purposes. There once was this girl named Vida. She was beautiful and extremely nice. Vida was always the one to stand up for others. She was like a modern day Mother Teresa. Okay, there was also this boy named Reuben. He was super in love with Vida. He dreamed of making her his wife since they were very little. The only downside is Vida didn’t look at him like this. She loved him, but it was more in a brotherly way. He knew she wasn’t going to change her mind any time soon about how she feels for him, but he still kept trying. He always made her smile and was there whenever she called. He would buy her things and even be the shoulder for her to cry on. Then one day she gave him a chance.”
      “Aww,” Sadie cooed.
“I said a scary story not some lovey dovey crap.” Berkeley groaned stuffing a burnt marshmallow into his mouth.
“Well Vida cheated on him so he cut up her body and spread the remains in the forest we’re in right now,” Kiefer said with a shrug.
“That was a plot twist!” I said a little shocked that he said it so casually.
“Oh no that’s not the plot twist.” Kiefer looked around at all of, eyes filled with excitement. “The plot twist is that I’m Reuben.”
“Haha so funny Kiefer. Oh wait I mean Reuben!” Sadie laughed along with Berkeley.
“Believe what you want you guys,” he said with a shrug. And at that moment something told me he wasn’t joking. Something in his eyes said otherwise and I no longer felt safe on this trip.

  13. He told me he was the witness to the incident that he told me about. He hated all of the people at the campsite and ordered for their murder. He got out of the car laughing and talked about how desperate I look. All of the sudden, the mysterious man killed Jim and stared at me. I was speechless, but I still was able to go inside my car and drive off before he attempted to kill me. As I drove off, I saw him in the rear view mirror and he was just staring at me. I never saw him again, and that was the worst weekend of my life.
