Create a poem or story that discusses respect. Consider what the concept means to you. The only requirement is that it must be 250 words. It is due at the end of the period.
What is respect The word is thrown around a lot But do people truly understand its meaning It doesn’t seem like anyone does There is no true respect amongst everyone Many say they respect everyone But that’s a lie Humans only respect those they like And that’s not all the time If we all respect everyone Than there would be no laughter We mock everyone we see Just for a few short laughs Making any negative comment proves you do not respect that individual And no living human being can say they haven’t done that We make these comments to feel better Or to make a point about them No matter how subtle it may be, it has a deep impact It is unstoppable It is in our nature As humans we all succumb to this No amount of will power can stop it We do though respect a few things That is enough to prove we are not a horrendous species But it is not enough This proven throughout our history Our most terrible moments as a species The racism of today The genocides and holocausts Slavery of other humans This list goes on It is a sad fact of life But one we all must live with We can change though even if just a small amount Just listen to those who are wiser than you Understand them and find out what they know That will start the process And it will start the change Not everyone will follow But just one can start a chain reaction And we may all start to respect the little things we have in this life
Words that have many meanings One word that I focus on is respect Many different type of ways It doesn’t mean just with words It also means with actions Words are one thing sand actions are another People can say many things But behind the persons back they do are another thing They are hypocrites Many people talk about hypocrites While behind who they are they are the same Respect is acting respectful What is acting respectful? Doing things that are right It’s doing what you think is correct It’s what is morally right Respectful is having a helping hand for everyone It’s making someone feel better Helping an elder mow their lawn Or simply a hug or kiss to a parent Giving thanks to someone that has done something to you Saying how they appreciate that one person for what they did Being respectful is staying quiet while someone talks Respectful has many different meanings For each person its different For me it means all of this and more While another person it can be a little different But with everyone the idea is the same The idea of doing the right thing The idea of just being polite and listening The idea of treating them just like the way that you would like to be treated The idea of helping someone out and showing that you appreciate them The idea of doing the right thing if it’s just for a second or a day At the end being respectful makes you feel good inside It’s time to step up and show everyone how it is to be respectful.
Respect is something that everyone should have. Respect comes from the heart, if you respect someone, they will respect you back. Treat others the way you want to be treated. In the dictionary, respect means the condition of being esteemed or honored. For example, someone could say “I have respect for certain people because they sacrifice their time to help others.” I have respect for Bill Gates because not only does he have A LOT of money, he doesn’t use it like some people do. Some rich people would spend money on things like beach houses, or a private island vacation, or even on the most expensive clothes in the country. Some other people may not be like that; Bill Gates. He spends his Microsoft money on research for AIDS and other health issues. He and his wife created the “Bill and Melinda Foundation” that donates money to people for the reasons I stated above. Another person I have respect for is Tim Tebow. Tim spends his time with kids who have serious illnesses, and he created a foundation. The Tim Tebow Foundation is currently building a hospital in the Philippines where hopefully it can help others. I have the outmost respect for him because he, like Bill Gates, created a foundation not for popularity, but to help those in need. Everybody should have respect for each other, because if nobody had respect, then this world would be even crazier than what it is now. Respect is what drives people to be nice and treat each other they would their own family. If somebody mistreats their mother, would they get respect from anyone else? Nope. Respect is what everybody in the world should have, for each other, for their families, for school, and anywhere else you go. Bring respect with you anywhere you go…
What is respect? Who is worth my respect or anyone else’s? We were all brought up with the thought to respect our elders and authority figures but… What if they don’t respect us Are they still worth my caring or even a smidge of my respect? What defines an elder? If it is everyone older than me than I’m sorry but respect shall not be served out to them by me My respect is not given easily My respect is given out the same way as my forgiveness Barely anyone will receive it and if you do well then understand that you must be one special individual Respect is something that has to be worked for Respect is considered a reward no one should just be given it freely Am I saying that if you don’t have respect for someone that you should embarrass them publically? No not at all All that I am saying is that you must be careful with who you respect As I said before I don’t respect everyone and I never will I grew up where people mistook fear as respect In all seriousness there should be a line made so that everyone can get a better understanding If someone fears you they don’t respect you This just means that one day they will get over you and try their best to humiliate you They will make everyone disown you and even try to have you excommunicated Many say they would rather be feared than respected but that is a dumb choice But anyway for those of you who go by respect week good luck Make sure that showing a little respect toward someone won’t create a muck Sadly I will be staying the same And I won’t be taking part in this hallmark created fake school perpetrated teacher enforced parent enthused unrealistic respect game
You have to give respect, to get respect Some people don’t know even know what respect means It is a quality that every person should have Respect back then is different than respect now Teenagers don’t respect a lot of things in today’s society The elderly, authority, respect just doesn’t come easy I was once told, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”, Respect is a lesson that everybody should learn, It’s like you if you want it then give it in return Respect isn’t something given for free It’s something earned most importantly, Respect is like trust, It takes time to build, but if you mess up It’s something that won’t be fulfilled, It doesn’t come easy, It’s something that society barely teaches Even at a young age, children should be brought up on this concept, Everywhere I look, adults are being disrespected Mainly because morals are present, My generation is barely punished anymore for their actions, Back in the day, there were harsh consequences Everything seems to be backwards, and nothing is being done to change it, The dislike of a person shouldn’t be based upon respect, More upon the fact that two people should be able to agree to disagree, But at the same time still have respect for one another Important figures like President Obama doesn’t always get the respect he deserves, Neither does most parents in today’s world, Moral of the story, You give respect to get respect, And sometimes it may come sooner.
In sixth grade, everyone had to take social skills for one whole marking period. During that class, our teacher, Mrs. Bobko, taught us everything about bonding with other people and how we should get along with others. She taught us about basic manners and actions that we should or should not do when interacting with other people. I don’t remember everything, but I do remember one lesson, where she talked about a pilot rescuing his passengers before escaping the plane himself. She taught me that the pilot deserved people’s respect because he put his passenger’s life before his own. He not only respects other people’s life, he also respects his job. One of the rules for pilots was that they must be sure that no one is left on the plane before he leaves. Though in dangerous situation, not everyone can do this. People always think about themselves before others, no matter how selfless a person is; it is their desire to survive. Though, the pilot endangered his own life for others, without knowing for 100% sure that he will survive that accident. It was a brave action that not many could have accomplished. I had respect from this pilot, even though I wasn’t a passenger in the airplane because he saved a life, which is very valuable. Also, I respected him for his determination to his job. Being a pilot involves not only his own life, but many hundreds of others. He was doing his job until the last minute, even though he might have died. I wouldn’t have done it if I was in his situation. I’m not brave enough. Most people respect their elders because they had lived longer than most people and have been through a lot more than others. They have gone through situations that maybe you wouldn’t have the courage to go through. As for me, I respected that pilot, not only because he was older than me, but also because he took his jobs and his responsibilities seriously.
I once had to write an essay about respect. I was in English class one day when the assignment arose. My teacher told us to write whatever came to mind. So it wasn’t really an essay, it was more of a boring free write. As I saw smoke coming out of everyone else’s pencils, I sat there, staring blankly at my paper. My pen was at the ready, but no words came to my mind. I had always heard about respect. Whether my parents had told me to respect my elders. Or a friend would crack a joke about respecting them. It was 15 minutes into the period already and my sheet still mocked me with its empty lines. I constantly heard the flipping of pages as my peers were already on their second page. 30 minutes and an idea had yet to spark. 5 minutes left in the class and then it hit me. The words began pouring and the different idea of a poem decorated my paper.
Respect A word that many have heard Without much meaning, it is just a word Nobody can say what it means But some say it’s in the genes I’ve heard it used so much But dare to find out its real touch It’s when the outsider is pushed down And you smile to turn around his frown It’s when nobody is nice to the new teacher And you sit there quietly, being the respectful creature It’s when your parent asks you a question And you don’t snap back with aggression It’s when a boy in a wheelchair is at the door And you realize it’s someone you respect enough to open it for It’s when you see trash on the ground And you put it in the bin where it should be found Respect is rarely seen But when it is, don’t intervene
Respect, respect is something earn and not given many people think respect has to do with only people they like but it’s not about all that, respect is given to those who deserve it to the ones that give you respect back even if you like them or not. To me respect is rightly use by the people that most think don’t have any respect for example gangs and mafias they both have a respect for each other that it takes a lot to earn in most times respect can be earn by seeing how tough you are or to have completed missions that are set out to you, this people respect is a group respect they back each other up and let no one walk over them unlike the normal people that don’t give respect even to their family members or to the ones that do the most for them . Like mostly teens in high school people claim that they have respect for each other but I find this not true, they claim to have each other’s back but also don’t when times comes this is how respect is thrown around like it’s nothing, Respect is something that has change life for everyone with it people find who they are close to or find someone they thought they were close too but find out they’re not who they claim they are. Respect is earn by showing me your true self not by making a lie of yourself in front of me, my respect towards people is not the same as other when I respect someone they know I respect them they also have the same thoughts as me my respect is not earn by many since I can point out many things from people around me because respect is just a word it’s the actions that someone does or do that makes the word respect real.
In my personal opinion, there is such a thing called respect, but people never use it. Of course people are going to respect their family member, it’s just natural. But respect for other people who are not in your family, that is unheard of, especially in schools. Everything you hear in schools is people cursing at each other. Sometimes it’s just joking around but sometimes it’s serious and people’s feelings get hurt. No matter what people think in the world, nobody really has any genuine respect for anybody that they don’t know, especially of people who live in different countries or different religions. Those people who belong to religious groups will always be prejudice against another religion. Respect is also somewhat like world piece, and no matter what people say that eventually there will be world piece, there never will.
Respect means more than what people often think It is more than having manners it is more than being aware of authority Like the old saying says love your neighbor as yourself If you don’t respect yourself you have no respect for others
One who respects himself doesn’t think only of himself he is neither jealous nor hateful he is confident and unafraid he is appreciative and loving and knows what he can do and knows his boundries
One who is respectful understands others He is open to opinions he is patient and caring If someone asked of something One would respect his wishes If someone felt uncomfortable about certain things one would respect and understand that. they wouldn’t just ignore them
When hearing the word respect people often think of being kind to others and not being rude but it is deeper than that it involves more emotion more feeling and some empathy
The true meaning of respect starts with respecting ourselves. People take the word “respect” to a whole other level and they change the meaning of it. Respect means a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something because of their abilities, qualities, or achievements. Many people say they get respected because others fear them and it shouldn’t even be like that. I respect so many people like my father because even though he didn’t have enough money or support from his family he still got us through everything. Also, even though he had a rough childhood he would still try to not be like his father. My father is one tough person and I never saw him cry but I did because he didn’t want to worry us. I respect soldiers because they’re risking their lives for us every day because they’re doing something for me. I won’t respect someone just because I fear them that’s not respect at all that just means they’re trying to stay away from dramatic people. Respect is earned by giving respect. The ones who show respect are actually surrounded by people that admire them, care for them, and love them unlike those who don’t show it which are talked bad about by others and get their name soiled.
Respect is when you appreciate what someone has done. I respect my mom more than anyone because, she raised four kids on her own and one of them was my cousin from my dad side of the family, and she had to deal with all the trouble that we gave her. The number one reason why I respect her so much is because, she kept a good friendship with my dad after they got a divorce. My mom had her first kid when she was eighteen, also at the same time she was taking care of my cousin and my brother and cousin were the same age. I respect my all my uncles and aunts on my dad side of the family because they went through a lot when they were kids, and now they have to take care of my grandpa that doesn’t remember anything. Having to do that takes a lot of work. When you have respect for someone your appreciating what they do or did. Students don’t really have respect for the teachers unless they really know them. When you don’t have respect for someone it makes you not care about what they do or say. I respect most of my teachers because, they have to deal with students disrespecting them and giving them a hard time. Elders deserve respect because, they went through a lot when they were younger and have gained a lot of experience. Having respect is when you like what they have done, or when you appreciate what they did.
He brushed his hair out of his face and started towards town. ** ** ** ** ** ** ** The city was dead silent. No one had anywhere to go so late at night. All of the stores were closed, the taverns were open but only for people wanting to rent a room on the upper floors for the night. It’s crazy how a city can be packed during the day and utterly baron once the sun sets. Tristain walked down the sidewalk feeling conspicuous and vulnerable. Ellie’s shop was only a block away and he could already feel the man’s presence. What was he going to do when he got in there? Hear him out? What could he possibly have to say? PLEASE help me kill the king? C’mon, it’ll be SO funny! Yeah, sure. What if he just full on tried to kill the guy? He already knew he could overpower the man if he tried. A knife to the chest would end his problems pretty quickly. He finally reached the shop and stopped short. Was he really going to go through with this?
In order to be a decent person when talking in terms of character, there are many guidelines that you must follow and characteristics that you must have. To be considered moral and good, you must be kind, selfless, and thoughtful; however, the most important characteristic that is required to be recognized as being a worthy person that deserves recognition for their character is someone that demonstrates respect to others. Respect is a trait that seems to be lacking in many people, and disrespect can often be the cause of degradation and humiliation of some. Respect is when you regard someone else with the same standards and values that you yourself would like to be treated. It can be difficult to understand what the concept of respect is and we often accumulate different definitions; however, it should be known to all that everyone should be capable of respect to others. Being disrespectful is often a reflection of the person’s character. It can be inferred that a person that is disrespectful to other people most likely also lacks the ability to respect themselves. Self-respect is needed if a person is to succeed in accomplishing what they want and becoming the type of person that they envision themselves to be. Although it is seems like it is excessively used and can seem arbitrary, everyone should know and understand the Golden Rule: Treat others the way you would like to be treated. Almost everyone has heard it at some point or another, but we often fail to take the rule and use it in our own lives. Respect is not something that can be disregarded and deemed unimportant. People need to be respected. Even if you do not particularly like a person, they still require a certain amount of respect. It is people with the ability to show respect and compassion to others that are the ones that deserve it in return.
No one shows respect anymore They believe they can do whatever they want Whenever they want It annoys me to much Why can’t people just show respect I see little kids cursing over and over again like it should be a common word Kids who shouldn’t even know what these words mean but they use it in almost all there sentences I see students all the time talking back to teachers, being disrespectful People always disrespect each other It’s almost like a human quality, to be disrespectful I was raised to always be respectful to everyone Why aren’t others raised that way The world should respect each other The world would be a better place if everyone respected each other Everything would get done so much quicker in this world I’m sure that is what everyone wants So if everyone wants something then why don’t strive to achieve it They don’t because they don’t want to respect each other It’s not even that hard really Don’t talk back to your elders Don’t judge people the first time you meet them Try and become friends with everyone Everyone could need more friends If you want to make this world a better place than just respect each other That’s what I want And wouldn’t you want everyone to respect you as well It only starts if you take the first step and respect everyone as well.
Respect is a concept that is hard to be taken seriously this day in age. It’s takes a lot to give and it takes even more to receive it. It’s not to be mistaken with common courtesy. It’s not something given out to random strangers. Respect is something to be earned, it’s something to fight to achieve. And what an achievement it is. To gain the respect of your peers, or even better, you elders, is a rare honor. The definition of respect is admiration given by others. But I see respect as so far beyond that. To respect someone is too admire them, to trust them, to honor them, to see them as your equal. It’s an easy word to say, but one of the hardest words to mean. Respect is the thing that binds a strong relationship. It’s the thing that brings you to common ground with your peers. It’s the thing that brings you to a common ground with your superiors. It’s the thing that brings you to a common ground with your enemies. Respect isn’t just a struggle to give, but a struggle to maintain. When you receive respect, you also receive a responsibility. You have to abide by what earned you that respect, because it’s not something that’s permanent. It can be all too easily lose. Once you lose it, it’s impossibly hard to get back and leaves you feeling disgraced and betrayed. And when the respect of others is lost, only those with the most inflated egos have that power to hold to the respect they had for themselves. To trust yourself, to see yourself as honorable, to see yourself as worthy. Which is the hardest respect of all.
The definition of respect is different depending on who you ask. Dictionary.com defines respect as “esteem for or a sense of the worth or excellence of a person, a personal quality or ability, or something considered as a manifestation of a personal quality or ability” I find it hard to set a specific definition for the word respect. My parents raised me to respect everyone. I am not the kind of person who will walk away from an adult when they are talking to me. I feel like children today don’t learn from their parents how to respect someone. Not saying that all children are disrespectable but I have seen more and more kids talking back to adults and disrespecting their peers. Here is an example of the lack of respect that children have in this day of age: I was riding my bike over to softball practice one time last year. I passed by a group of elementary school students on their way home from school. One of the young boys started shouting ‘hi’ to me. I did not know who these kids were. As I passed by them, the boy continues to shout… words not appropriate for this website. What was exactly shouted is not as big of a deal as the fact that a boy, at most ten cursed at someone he does not know! But this seems to be a common occurrence in today’s society. Even television has taken notice to the lack of respect from children. One specific clip that comes to mind is from the new MTV show Underemployed. A young boy is walking down the street with his mom and when offered a pamphlet, he called the guy a lesbian. Is this just a change in society? I feel really old when I talk about respect but I stick to my views. I try to teach my little cousin the proper way to talk to adults and how to respect someone.
INDEPENDENT STUDY ASSIGNMENT “It would appear that this is a bed, somewhere to lay your head. Whoever owns this is obviously quite rich; the style, though very unique, is one that you would see in a castle or palace. I don’t know what to make of those,” he said as he pointed to the strange lighting apparatus that was housed on the ceiling and in two strange, cone shaped devices in the room, one on a desk and one next to a bed. “I can only assume that they operate on some type of strange magic.” Cynoss shrugged, and moved towards the desk. There was a paper on it covered with gibberish that he could not understand, numbers and letters and strange symbols. On the top, it said ‘Algebra I Homework Assignment’ Strange. Then, he noticed that sitting next to the paper was a small, peculiar looking rectangle with smooth edges. He picked it up, and took a look at it. Suddenly, it lit up, and began to tremble in his hands. A loud noise began to blare from the device, and Cynoss, surprised, hurled it away from him. It fell on the floor and split into three pieces as the noise silenced. He turned to Dracon, who had been watching the spectacle. “What kind of a place have we found ourselves in?” “It is a hellish place, if you ask me,” Dracon replied. “Let us try and leave this room and see what lies beyond these walls.” They both looked towards the window that was next to the bed. Cynoss drew his scythe, preparing to cut a hole in it. Dracon, however, stopped him. “We should try not to leave evidence that we have been here. Besides,” he started as he looked out the window, “it’s a long fall, and not all of us are made of just bone.” Cynoss shrugged and sheathed his weapon. He walked over to the door, and opened it slowly. A loud creaking noise resounded from the wood as he did so. He smiled as he motioned to Dracon. “After you,” he said, and followed his brother through.
Respect: an idea often abandoned Walk the hallways Travel down the street Find me the hope in this world The hope for respect As I brush past days Past shoulders in the hallway Not an ounce of respect can be found Perhaps those around me are unaware Of the meaning of the word But the definition isn’t hidden too deep The old cliché bring timeless wisdom “Treat others the way you wanted to be treated”
Although mocked and ridiculed the phrase rings true Ask yourself how someone should treat you? Should you be abused, ignored, and always knocked down Or would you rather your head be treated as if wearing a crown? Respect can be simple, with the closure of your mouth Or found in big measures by the gestures granted to those deserving.
How much respect can one deserve? All deserve respect But others ask for it And others push it away Those that show respect receive it Those that neglect the idea receive the same neglect So when does the day where we all see respect come? Perhaps such a day is found only in dreams Respect doesn’t find its home in a world of immaturity Respect can’t live in an atmosphere of foolishness
The truth of the matter is that respect can’t be found It is created through your will to reflect it Give respect and receive it Receive it and give it away If all will follow these guidelines We can reach the day of respect Bringing peace, comfort and happiness to all.
Respect. This is a common courtesy that you should show to everyone. The most basic respect should be shown to everybody, but stronger respect is earned. Respect is when you hold someone in high esteem. When a person you respect gives you advice, you follow it. You try to be a bit more like them because you admire what they do. When you respect someone, you are impressed by what they accomplish or have accomplished. You value someone’s opinion when you respect them. You also show a stronger form of respect to those who continuously help you through your life. Everyone should respect each other. We all accomplish great things, though they may not be written in books. Surviving in this difficult world has earned everyone to the right to be treated with basic respect. Your parents should be the holders of all of your respect. They are the ones who took you in and raised you to be who you are. They’ve had to jump through multiple hoops just to get you this far through your life. Elderly folks should also receive a lot of respect. They are from an older generation, thus they have seen most of what life has to offer. By taking their counsel, you can avoid the mistakes they made, and aim for the wonderful achievements they made. Your teachers are another group of people you should respect. They want to offer you all of their knowledge so that you can successfully move up in the world. They’ve been through school and know what you are going through. Teachers try their best to get you through school so that you can get a good job and live a comfy life. Many people try their best to help you, and this should be exchanged with your upmost respect. Basic respect is a common courtesy, but true respect is earned over time.
It is a gift I can give to others—the least I can do. I don’t always think about it—I just feel it. Respect. Respect is the endless, blue sky above, that fills me with hope and joy, knowing that today is a bright, welcoming day. Respect is the strong, veiny, green vine that latches onto me that I cannot escape from. It follows me around. I cannot pull myself out of it. I cannot be released; it will never let me go. I’m constantly reminded to have respect towards the foreign faces around me. I may not know them—where they’re from or who they are—but I can respect them. Respect is a sense of understanding and care; it breeds awareness and peace. Respect allows me to stop, listen and think about someone else. It allows me to comprehend things I usually cannot—to accept things I usually discard. How can I possible walk a highly populated Earth if I cannot get along with the people who inhabit it? Respect goes beneath the planet’s thick surface. Respect is what allows me to peel away the layers that we constantly dress ourselves in without even noticing anymore. The walls that we build to protect ourselves have become part of our routine. Respect allows me to break down those walls, brick by brick, and begin to build bridges that connect one world to another. Without these bridges, we are confined in isolation. My heart, however, yearns for travel. My heart yearns for voyage. My heart yearns for respect.
Respect me ill respect you Don’t make me bring my crew Respect is all I need Respect me little boy your my seed I like to be respected by everyone You feel me son? Stand up when I walk in the room I’m like the judge walking in the court room Everyone gets up and shows me respect If you don’t get up then you wouldn’t be one of us Because you are not loyal and nice Everyone should respect one another Because at the end we all go back to one another You live you die why not show love to everyone and not to cry Don’t cry because no one respect you Put your head up they just haters they stick to you like the flu People aren’t the same People show you love and people show you fear But if you respect people they’ll stand by your side And the other kids well go bye bye The real people will be clean And the bad ones will not be seen Respect doesn’t come and go So keep your spot in this world and don’t let it go When you die you will be respected and followed All I got to say is respect me and respect others Someone who you should respect is your mother She brought you to this earth and gave you comfort Respect every mother because they went thru the same What people ask for? They ask for respect and the only thing they need Everyone should put their heads up and wait never drop one tear.
People always make a really big deal out of respect. I am not saying it’s not important. I am not saying it’s not a good thing to be respectful of others, I am not saying it’s not a good thing to have the respect of others. I am just saying that I do not agree with the way a lot of people view respect. Respect is not something that should easily be given away, it should not come easy. Respect is something that should be earned by the receiver. Instead, treat people well. If they reciprocate, they have earned your respect. If they do not, than they do not deserve to be treated that way. My problem with respect is that people abuse it too often. So many people believe that they are automatically entitled to respect based on their position, age, etc. People think that they can treat other’s badly and still demand respect from them based on who they are. I don’t think it should work that way. I think respect should be given based on one’s behavior. Personally, I don’t like to waste my time and energy. That means I don’t like to waste my time and energy on people, as well. I’m not going to sit around and let somebody treat me badly just because they are somebody who other’s think I am obligated to respect. Nobody should have to do that. What goes around comes around, right? So treat people the way you wish to be treated. Respect people if you want to be respected.
Respect is a common courtesy that unfortunately, is not given to anyone. Unless someone gives someone else a reason to not respect them, it should automatically be given. There are not specific things that one should do in order to gain respect, there is too many to count. Furthermore, there are many forms of respect. One should respect their elders, their parents and one with good morals. Despite these easy requirements for respect, most of society doesn’t deem them enough. Most people need something substantial and personal to gain respect. Simply keeping to yourself, not bothering anyone, is not enough to give any respect for many. I’ve seen multiple occasions where someone is minding their own business is disrespected by a bully. Said person was just doing what he wanted, but the bully did not like what he was doing for whatever reason; perhaps he didn’t think it was cool, but either way, respect should be given. In my expert opinion, people who are less than intelligent are the ones to disrespect people for no reason. Respect should be the simplest form of appreciation in every way. Respect for one’s space, belongings, feeling and life should be given unless there’s a reason that it should be taken away. “A child who is allowed to be disrespectful to his parents will not have true respect for anyone.” It begins there and evolves as one matures. It’s the parent’s job to instill the idea of respect on a child and I beg every parent to do so.
“You come home from your office, and you make dinner and then you go to your room or stare blankly at the T.V. for hours.” She paused to take a deep breath. “When people look at me they think, ‘there’s the girl who doesn’t have a mom’, but what they don’t realize is that I actually don’t have any parents at all.” She threw down her fork and got out of her seat, running back to her room. While doing the dishes John thought over what Allie had said and when he was done he decided to go up to her room to check on her. He stood outside her door for a moment, unsure what to do or say. He took a deep breath and lifted up his hand to knock on the door but decided against it and turned the knob instead. When he walked in he found her curled up on her bed facing the wall. Her legs were tucked up to her side and hand was clasped tightly over her eyes as she let out a loud sob.
What is respect
ReplyDeleteThe word is thrown around a lot
But do people truly understand its meaning
It doesn’t seem like anyone does
There is no true respect amongst everyone
Many say they respect everyone
But that’s a lie
Humans only respect those they like
And that’s not all the time
If we all respect everyone
Than there would be no laughter
We mock everyone we see
Just for a few short laughs
Making any negative comment proves you do not respect that individual
And no living human being can say they haven’t done that
We make these comments to feel better
Or to make a point about them
No matter how subtle it may be, it has a deep impact
It is unstoppable
It is in our nature
As humans we all succumb to this
No amount of will power can stop it
We do though respect a few things
That is enough to prove we are not a horrendous species
But it is not enough
This proven throughout our history
Our most terrible moments as a species
The racism of today
The genocides and holocausts
Slavery of other humans
This list goes on
It is a sad fact of life
But one we all must live with
We can change though even if just a small amount
Just listen to those who are wiser than you
Understand them and find out what they know
That will start the process
And it will start the change
Not everyone will follow
But just one can start a chain reaction
And we may all start to respect the little things we have in this life
Words that have many meanings
ReplyDeleteOne word that I focus on is respect
Many different type of ways
It doesn’t mean just with words
It also means with actions
Words are one thing sand actions are another
People can say many things
But behind the persons back they do are another thing
They are hypocrites
Many people talk about hypocrites
While behind who they are they are the same
Respect is acting respectful
What is acting respectful?
Doing things that are right
It’s doing what you think is correct
It’s what is morally right
Respectful is having a helping hand for everyone
It’s making someone feel better
Helping an elder mow their lawn
Or simply a hug or kiss to a parent
Giving thanks to someone that has done something to you
Saying how they appreciate that one person for what they did
Being respectful is staying quiet while someone talks
Respectful has many different meanings
For each person its different
For me it means all of this and more
While another person it can be a little different
But with everyone the idea is the same
The idea of doing the right thing
The idea of just being polite and listening
The idea of treating them just like the way that you would like to be treated
The idea of helping someone out and showing that you appreciate them
The idea of doing the right thing if it’s just for a second or a day
At the end being respectful makes you feel good inside
It’s time to step up and show everyone how it is to be respectful.
ReplyDeleteEverybody should have respect for each other, because if nobody had respect, then this world would be even crazier than what it is now.
ReplyDeleteWho is worth my respect or anyone else’s?
We were all brought up with the thought to respect our elders and authority figures but…
What if they don’t respect us
Are they still worth my caring or even a smidge of my respect?
What defines an elder?
If it is everyone older than me than I’m sorry but respect shall not be served out to them by me
My respect is not given easily
My respect is given out the same way as my forgiveness
Barely anyone will receive it and if you do well then understand that you must be one special individual
Respect is something that has to be worked for
Respect is considered a reward no one should just be given it freely
Am I saying that if you don’t have respect for someone that you should embarrass them publically?
No not at all
All that I am saying is that you must be careful with who you respect
As I said before I don’t respect everyone and I never will
I grew up where people mistook fear as respect
In all seriousness there should be a line made so that everyone can get a better understanding
If someone fears you they don’t respect you
This just means that one day they will get over you and try their best to humiliate you
They will make everyone disown you and even try to have you excommunicated
Many say they would rather be feared than respected but that is a dumb choice
But anyway for those of you who go by respect week good luck
Make sure that showing a little respect toward someone won’t create a muck
Sadly I will be staying the same
And I won’t be taking part in this hallmark created fake school perpetrated teacher enforced parent enthused unrealistic respect game
¡Muy bien Totiana! ¡Fantastico!

ReplyDeleteYou have to give respect, to get respect
ReplyDeleteSome people don’t know even know what respect means
It is a quality that every person should have
Respect back then is different than respect now
Teenagers don’t respect a lot of things in today’s society
The elderly, authority, respect just doesn’t come easy
I was once told, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”,
Respect is a lesson that everybody should learn,
It’s like you if you want it then give it in return
Respect isn’t something given for free
It’s something earned most importantly,
Respect is like trust,
It takes time to build, but if you mess up
It’s something that won’t be fulfilled,
It doesn’t come easy,
It’s something that society barely teaches
Even at a young age, children should be brought up on this concept,
Everywhere I look, adults are being disrespected
Mainly because morals are present,
My generation is barely punished anymore for their actions,
Back in the day, there were harsh consequences
Everything seems to be backwards, and nothing is being done to change it,
The dislike of a person shouldn’t be based upon respect,
More upon the fact that two people should be able to agree to disagree,
But at the same time still have respect for one another
Important figures like President Obama doesn’t always get the respect he deserves,
Neither does most parents in today’s world,
Moral of the story,
You give respect to get respect,
And sometimes it may come sooner.
ReplyDeleteI had respect from this pilot, even though I wasn’t a passenger in the airplane because he saved a life, which is very valuable.
ReplyDeleteIt was 15 minutes into the period already and my sheet still mocked me with its empty lines. I constantly heard the flipping of pages as my peers were already on their second page. 30 minutes and an idea had yet to spark. 5 minutes left in the class and then it hit me. The words began pouring and the different idea of a poem decorated my paper.
Respect
A word that many have heard
Without much meaning, it is just a word
Nobody can say what it means
But some say it’s in the genes
I’ve heard it used so much
But dare to find out its real touch
It’s when the outsider is pushed down
And you smile to turn around his frown
It’s when nobody is nice to the new teacher
And you sit there quietly, being the respectful creature
It’s when your parent asks you a question
And you don’t snap back with aggression
It’s when a boy in a wheelchair is at the door
And you realize it’s someone you respect enough to open it for
It’s when you see trash on the ground
And you put it in the bin where it should be found
Respect is rarely seen
But when it is, don’t intervene
ReplyDeleteIn my personal opinion, there is such a thing called respect, but people never use it.
ReplyDeleteRespect means more than what people often think
ReplyDeleteIt is more than having manners
it is more than being aware of authority
Like the old saying says
love your neighbor as yourself
If you don’t respect yourself
you have no respect for others
One who respects himself
doesn’t think only of himself
he is neither jealous nor hateful
he is confident and unafraid
he is appreciative and loving
and knows what he can do
and knows his boundries
One who is respectful understands others
He is open to opinions
he is patient
and caring
If someone asked of something
One would respect his wishes
If someone felt uncomfortable about certain things
one would respect and understand that.
they wouldn’t just ignore them
When hearing the word respect
people often think of being kind to others
and not being rude
but it is deeper than that
it involves more emotion
more feeling
and some empathy
ReplyDeleteRespect is when you appreciate what someone has done.
ReplyDeleteHe brushed his hair out of his face and started towards town.
ReplyDelete** ** ** ** ** ** **
The city was dead silent.
ReplyDeleteNo one shows respect anymore
ReplyDeleteThey believe they can do whatever they want
Whenever they want
It annoys me to much
Why can’t people just show respect
I see little kids cursing over and over again like it should be a common word
Kids who shouldn’t even know what these words mean but they use it in almost all there sentences
I see students all the time talking back to teachers, being disrespectful
People always disrespect each other
It’s almost like a human quality, to be disrespectful
I was raised to always be respectful to everyone
Why aren’t others raised that way
The world should respect each other
The world would be a better place if everyone respected each other
Everything would get done so much quicker in this world
I’m sure that is what everyone wants
So if everyone wants something then why don’t strive to achieve it
They don’t because they don’t want to respect each other
It’s not even that hard really
Don’t talk back to your elders
Don’t judge people the first time you meet them
Try and become friends with everyone
Everyone could need more friends
If you want to make this world a better place than just respect each other
That’s what I want
And wouldn’t you want everyone to respect you as well
It only starts if you take the first step and respect everyone as well.
ReplyDeleteRespect isn’t just a struggle to give, but a struggle to maintain.

ReplyDeleteINDEPENDENT STUDY ASSIGNMENT
ReplyDelete“It would appear that this is a bed, somewhere to lay your head.
“What kind of a place have we found ourselves in?”
“It is a hellish place, if you ask me,” Dracon replied. “Let us try and leave this room and see what lies beyond these walls.”
They both looked towards the window that was next to the bed. Cynoss drew his scythe, preparing to cut a hole in it. Dracon, however, stopped him. “We should try not to leave evidence that we have been here. Besides,” he started as he looked out the window, “it’s a long fall, and not all of us are made of just bone.”
Cynoss shrugged and sheathed his weapon. He walked over to the door, and opened it slowly. A loud creaking noise resounded from the wood as he did so. He smiled as he motioned to Dracon. “After you,” he said, and followed his brother through.
Respect: an idea often abandoned
ReplyDeleteWalk the hallways
Travel down the street
Find me the hope in this world
The hope for respect
As I brush past days
Past shoulders in the hallway
Not an ounce of respect can be found
Perhaps those around me are unaware
Of the meaning of the word
But the definition isn’t hidden too deep
The old cliché bring timeless wisdom
“Treat others the way you wanted to be treated”
Although mocked and ridiculed the phrase rings true
Ask yourself how someone should treat you?
Should you be abused, ignored, and always knocked down
Or would you rather your head be treated as if wearing a crown?
Respect can be simple, with the closure of your mouth
Or found in big measures by the gestures granted to those deserving.
How much respect can one deserve?
All deserve respect
But others ask for it
And others push it away
Those that show respect receive it
Those that neglect the idea receive the same neglect
So when does the day where we all see respect come?
Perhaps such a day is found only in dreams
Respect doesn’t find its home in a world of immaturity
Respect can’t live in an atmosphere of foolishness
The truth of the matter is that respect can’t be found
It is created through your will to reflect it
Give respect and receive it
Receive it and give it away
If all will follow these guidelines
We can reach the day of respect
Bringing peace, comfort and happiness to all.
ReplyDeleteIt is a gift I can give to others—the least I can do. I don’t always think about it—I just feel it.
ReplyDeleteRespect.
Respect me ill respect you
ReplyDeleteDon’t make me bring my crew
Respect is all I need
Respect me little boy your my seed
I like to be respected by everyone
You feel me son?
Stand up when I walk in the room
I’m like the judge walking in the court room
Everyone gets up and shows me respect
If you don’t get up then you wouldn’t be one of us
Because you are not loyal and nice
Everyone should respect one another
Because at the end we all go back to one another
You live you die why not show love to everyone and not to cry
Don’t cry because no one respect you
Put your head up they just haters they stick to you like the flu
People aren’t the same
People show you love and people show you fear
But if you respect people they’ll stand by your side
And the other kids well go bye bye
The real people will be clean
And the bad ones will not be seen
Respect doesn’t come and go
So keep your spot in this world and don’t let it go
When you die you will be respected and followed
All I got to say is respect me and respect others
Someone who you should respect is your mother
She brought you to this earth and gave you comfort
Respect every mother because they went thru the same
What people ask for?
They ask for respect and the only thing they need
Everyone should put their heads up and wait never drop one tear.
ReplyDeleteRespect is a common courtesy that unfortunately, is not given to anyone.
