Highlights with Soundtrack

Your assignment is to choose 10 highlights from your life.  For each moment, choose a song that  would appropriately accompany that moment.  Then, for each moment, write 1 to 3 sentences explaining your song choice for that moment.

EXAMPLE

MOMENT: 10th grade, a crisp fall night.  I remember being sprawled out on the front lawn of my buddy's house, staring up at the stars, talking for hours with a person I had only known vaguely before that time.

SONG: "Are You Lightning?" by Nada Surf.  I chose this song because it conveys the sense of the glorious confusion that often accompanies a new relationship.  There is a feeling of anticipation and the slight undercurrent of trepidation that comes along with opening yourself up to someone new.

MOMENT:  Also 10th grade, oddly enough.  Dead middle of Christmas break.  One of my best friends was heavily addicted to drugs, and had been hiding it from me, fearing my judgment.  We had argued about it.  As a gesture of good faith, she walked a mile across town in 2 feet of snow, the day after having major knee surgery, to carry me the pipe she had been using; her thinking was that this would prove she was done with this stuff for good.  I remember feeling sadness upon recognizing the futility of the whole gesture.  I appreciated it, but I was not about to fool myself about it.  I could tell she wanted me to tell her that I trusted her, that this was all she needed to do to make things right, but I just couldn’t.  It was a hard truth.

SONG: “Soma” by The Smashing Pumpkins.”  Musically, the spacy introduction of this song always conjured the feeling of Christmas lights, strung out on cold rooflines, blinking, magical.  I think of her walk in the snow and hear that music.  The way the song crests, the way it swells, even the screechy vocals remind me of a truth one can’t ignore.

MOMENT:   January, at a young, purposely non-specified age.  I was at a social gathering of sorts, and it was “somewhat” rowdy.  At the absolute apex of the evening, which was at a friend’s house, the craziest kid I knew at the time got into a fight with his girlfriend.  He was in a “somewhat altered” state of consciousness.  I could see it escalating.  He was standing in the corner of a screened-in porch, and suddenly he decided to just leap backwards.  He smashed through the screen, and reverse face-planted on the concrete, splitting his head wide-open.  The chaos that ensued when the “social gathering” guests were informed that an ambulance was on the way can best be described as “the stuff of legend.”  Half-filled cups flying into bushes.  Various glass receptacles being tossed down the hill in the backyard.   By the time I had made my escape, I wasn’t completely aware that I had made my escape.  Luckily, I had the assistance of a friend, who literally saved my life that night; she pulled me back as I tried to cross the street, and missed being hit by a truck by about 6 inches.

SONG:  “Lady, Your Roof Brings Me Down” by Scott Weiland.  I’m not even a huge fan of the artist, but this song typifies the silliness and disorientation that goes along with my night.  It falls all over itself; it is sloppy.  The groove lumbers along like a dizzy sloth.  It’s perfect.

This assignment is due at the end of class on Monday for Mr. Kupiec's class and by the end of class on Wednesday for Mrs. Ell's.

  1. Moment: Getting in trouble often in 2nd grade because of my close friendship with this girl who had a rebellious look to her and was the only girl in our grade to wear make-up which was very scandalous then. I was always told to never judge a book by its cover, so despite my conscious telling me she was a “bad girl” I became her friend. I must admit I had lots of fun that year though.
Song: “Trouble” by Taylor Swift I chose this song because in this song she is blaming herself for all the trouble she went through for letting someone who looked like a trouble-maker walk into her life.
Moment: Going to the front when they were doing the calling for those who felt like they “needed Jesus in their life.” I’ll never forget going up there crying because I thought accepting Him as my Savior would help me actually become close with this being that I sang songs about at church for so long. I was so confused about this person they worshipped at church, but I stood up and was excited to meet/reconcile with this being.
Song: “What Do I know of Holy” by Addison Road. I chose this song because even though she had an idea of who Jesus was and what He was claimed to have done, she admits to not fully understand the significance that comes along with Him and everything that He’s all about.
Moment: The day that my extremely strict parents finally let me go somewhere alone with my boyfriend after four years of having to hide around and stuff was a very happy night. We have had many lovely days/nights together before, but it was so nice to not have to hide and therefore not feel guilty for being with him.
Song: “What Dreams Are Made Of” by Hilary Duff. I chose this song because the song describes a beautiful night and it exaggerates the happiness she is feeling at the moment she sings the song…that night actually felt like a dream come true and I would repeat it all over again.
Moment: The first time my boyfriend said “I love you” to me was definitely special. He is very old-fashioned and made sure it was done in a special way…not through the phone, or through text. I have to admit I felt a little scared just because it was never said to me before, I felt as if he was asking me for marriage or something.
Song: “Always and Forever” by Heatwave This song is very old but it honestly expresses what I was translating Frank’s words as.
Moment: Coming back to school and getting a whole bunch of “Did you lose weight?” will forever be a highlight in my life. I made sure to lose weight this summer, and I sacrificed myself a lot to reach my goal…and I did.
Song: “No Me Doy por Vencido” by Luis Fonsi I chose this song because even though he talks about not giving up on a girl, he repeats in many ways that he’s not one to give up. I didn’t give up and this song describes how I feel about my desire for weightloss…I’m not giving up.

  2. Moment: The last day of my sophomore year was the best day ever. I hated my sophomore year so much, you would never understand. That last day of finals, I felt as if I was being set free from prison.
Song: “What Time Is It?” by High School musical I chose this because it talks about the high school students’ anticipation before summer starts and I was literally singing this song that day.
Moment: Obviously in a relationship there are ups and downs. There was a month or two in which my boyfriend and I were broken up during the four years. That time was bittersweet. I did a whole lot of learning…and to be honest there was no one to blame. It was tough but very beneficial because we stand where we stand today because of that time.
Song: “Fuiste Tu” by Ricardo Arjona & Gaby Moreno I chose this song because it describes exactly how we felt at the moment we gave each other a “break”. We blamed each other even though there was no one to blame.
Moment: When my grandmother came back to stay in the USA it was a great day. She repeated how she will never leave my side again. She was foolish to think that being in Guatemala would solve all her problems when the only thing she needs is the love of her children and grandchildren to keep her going.
Song: “Reunited” by Peaches & Herb I chose this song even though it’s about a couple because it talks about how good it feels to be reunited. I was overwhelmed with happiness when my grandmother came back.
Moment: The first time I ever rebelled against my parents and went to a party even though I was not allowed to include a whole bunch of emotions. I did whatever I wanted that night because I was honestly not worried about the consequences; I was mentally prepared for them.
Song: “Ain’t Worried About Nothin” by French Montana I chose this song because it talks about doing all sorts of inappropriate things but not caring about anything that comes along with doing them.
Moment: The last day of 8th grade is a highlight in my life because I thought I was all that and so grown up. Now I look back and laugh, I thought I had accomplished so much.
Song: “Started From The Bottom” by Drake I chose this song because that is exactly how I felt that year. I felt so bold and unstoppable.

  3. Moment ; When i found out that my Grandfather had passed away during last summer, i was crushed. My family and i drove down to Florida to attend the funeral. My grandfather and i were very close so i was very hurt to find out he was gone forever. I could'nt stop crying.
song ; Bye Bye by Mariah Carey. I picked this song because it describes how even though someone is upset about losing a loved one, they are in a way better place now and everything will be okay.

Moment ; When I found out one of my best friends and I have been talking to the same guy. We did not really get upset over it, we actually thought it was funny. When he was texting both of us we played a trick on him by saying the exact thing in every text we sent to him.
song ; Same Girl by Usher. The song is about how the girl he was in love with was talking to one of his friends as well. Though me and my friend werent upset like they are in the same, it reminds me of this moment because he tried to play us but it didnt work.

Moment; My favorite day in the world is when i finally got to meet my baby nephew, Jaiden. It took my family and I four months to meet him because his mom is psycho, not even exagerating. Holding him in my arms for the first time made me so happy and his smile and his dimples made my heart melt.
Song ; You are my Sunshine. I picked that song because the moment i saw him, i fell in love. I could'nt think of anything i'd rather be doing than holding him in my arms. He makes me so happy. No one can make me happy like he can.

Moment ; Seeing my parents get married was so important to me. Although i was very young when it happened, i can still picture it in my head. They were so in love. It was like no one else was in the room when they looked into each others eyes. I remember when they had their first dance, my mom was crying. She looked so beautiful and i was very happy that she was happy,
Song; Dont Know Much by Linda Ronstadt. That song always reminds me of their wedding because that was the song that played while they danced for the first time as a married couple.

Moment; My boyfriends one year anniversary last year was a very special day for me. He took me to a place called rebounders. You can play laser tag, play arcade games, drive race carts, ETC. Its was so fun and after that we went out to eat dinner. He bought me concert tickets to see Lil Wayne because ive always wanted to see him.
Song ; Baby its you by Jojo. The song relates to my relationship with him because he makes me feel very special. In the song, it describes how she wants him no matter what. If my boyfriend was rich or poor, healthy or sick, i will stay by his side because he means so much to me.

  4. Moment; A month ago, my friends and I went to the woods and camped out for the weekend. We stayed up all night and had a very good time. We talked about everything and made jokes. We slept in tents and built a camp fire.
Song; Good Time by Carly Rae Jepsen. The song is about how it doesnt matter what they do, they always have fun. That reminds me of my friends and I because we could just sit around and someones couch and still have fun.

Moment; when i took Jaiden to the park one spring day. Pushing him on the swings and watching him run around made me happy. We went down the slide together and we went on the football field, even though we werent suppose to, to through a football to each other. The park is my favorite place to take him because he is always so happy there and we always have a good time.
Song; You'll be in my Heart by Phil Collins. I dedicated this song to Jaiden because he means the world to me. No matter what happens, he will always be in my heart. He is one of the few speical people i have in my life and i love him more than anything in the world.

Moment; The first time i was ever "heart broken" was when i was 14. Of course now, i know that that relationship was not even real, but at the moment i swore i loved him. We hung out all the time and talked on the phone. He was even my first kiss. After he told me he was leaving me to be with the one girl i hated in my grade, i could not stop crying.
Song; We are Never ever getting back together by Taylor Swift, i picked this song because he hurt my feelings and i realized that he didnt really care about me like i cared for him.

Moment; when i went to my cousins lake house for a family reunion. There was alot of food and loud music. my cousins and i went swimming and we went on boats. We also went fishing, but just for fun, we didnt kill any fish. It was a lot of fun because i dont get to see some of my family all the time so i cherish every moment i have with them.
Song ; Chicken Friend by Zac Brown Band. I picked that song because it tells you how memories and having fun is more important than what you drive or where you live. It shows you how important family is and that the tangible things are not as important than the intangible things like creating memories.

Moment; When my father took me to the Father Daughter Dance when i did girl scouts. We slow danced together while i was standing on his shoes. That was a very special time in our life because we got to bond.
Song ; Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle. This song reminds me of how me and my dad used to be close. I wish my father and I could still get along like we used to.

  5. Moment: After we finished building a house in Mexico for a poor family.
Song: The Dangerous Summer’s “Symmetry.” The song tells somewhat of a story of someone who leaves behind all the comforts of home for a time and does something good for himself, and others. While on that mission trip, I found peace from doing something good for a family that had so little.
Moment: When our parents first divorced and my brothers and I didn’t really know how we felt or what to do.
Song: Anberlin’s “Alexithymia.” The song portrays a sense of melancholia throughout, and is reminiscent of how we felt during that time. In fact, the word “alexithymia” means an inability to put one’s emotions into words.
Moment: In around January of this year when I was extremely overwhelmed by the amount of work and responsibility I had, but then realizing that all of it will be worth it.
Song: Good Luck Varsity’s “Lakes.” The song is about getting beaten down by the world, but recognizing that it’s also a beautiful place and things will get better if you’re willing to work hard.
Moment: When a friend wasn’t there for me when I needed them, and I became frustrated with them.
Song: Anberlin’s “Self-Starter.” The song is about a relationship with a person that never wants to take on the responsibility or the weight that comes with being in a relationship of any kind.
Moment: When I finally terminated a toxic relationship that wasn’t fulfilling in the slightest.
Song: We Are The In Crowd’s “The Worst Thing About Me.” The song is about just that: cutting someone detrimental out of your life because they were only causing you harm when you thought they wouldn’t.
Moment: When a friend that had never shown any interest in my life or my feelings suddenly wants my help with a problem.
Song: Paramore’s “Feeling Sorry.” In the song, the singer says repeatedly “I’ve got no time for feeling sorry,” and that’s exactly how I felt; why should I care about them, when they never cared about me?
Moment: When a friend that I had a great relationship with for a long time suddenly abandons me without cause.
Song: Anberlin’s “To The Wolves.” In the song, the singer says “who needs enemies when we’ve got friends like you,” meaning that when our friends do harm to us, they become our enemies.
Moment: When my compassion for someone overwhelmed me when they were in a time of crisis, but I struggled on how I should go about helping them.
Song: When In Rome’s “The Promise.” The song is about wanting to protect someone, but not knowing if what they say will ever be an adequate expression of their compassion.
Moment: I was hanging out with a new group of friends for the first time and we were looking out on the lights from Washington Rock.
Song: Paramore’s “Looking Up.” At this specific point in my life, I had started to feel lost as to who my friends were and who really cared for me. I had just begun to lose hope when this night happened, but looking out on the lights from the top of the mountain, I knew that this was a special group of people that really cared for me.
Moment: When someone was going through a very tough time in their life but they didn’t want to talk about it or even try to make things better.
Song: Anberlin’s “Unstable.” In the song, they singer says “How can I talk you down from that ledge unless you let me in?” If there’s one thing I’ve learned in life, it’s that some people genuinely want to be miserable, and this song describes that concept, as well as this situation perfectly.

  7. Moment: The time that my dad’s side of the family came to visit for the winter. This was a highlight because I barely get to see them since they moved to North Carolina. I was able to wake up to them on Christmas morning and spend days with them.
Song: This Christmas by Chris Brown. This is a very uplifting Christmas song that talks about how people are getting together to make this Christmas right and with all my family there if felt just like a perfect Christmas.

Moment: When I cheered for my first Dunellen high school football game. I’ve cheered before many times but there was just something different this time. I was so excited to be a Dunellen cheerleader. I was also very overwhelmed at everything to.
Song: Pop That by French Montana. This song was actually in my dance routine and this song was popular around the time as well.

Moment: When my brother was about three years old we were at my grandmother’s house visiting with family. Out of nowhere a song came on and my brother just stands singing and dancing like a mad man. The family just started laughing. My grandmother on the other hand joined in and just going crazy with him. The two of them were just going around the house singing and dancing like fools.
Song: Crazy by Cee Lo Green. This was the song that they were singing. It was just such an important memory because we were all laughing hysterically

Moment: When my best friend, Michelle and I went on girls day trip to New York with my mom and my aunt. We went all over New York and shopped and ate at all different places. It was such a great day with my best friend that I will never forget.
Song: True Friend by Hannah Montana. I picked this song because it’s about best friends and that day was a full day devoted to my best friend.

Moment: When I went to the Colombian Festival with my friend Estrella during the summer. That was such an exciting day because I never went to the festival before and I had no idea how big it was going to be. It was insane. It was packed with people and it went on for blocks. There were so many friends that we knew there so it was just such a great time that I will never forget.
Song: Animals by Martin Garrix. I choose this because this song played at the festival and it just got everyone pumped. This song always gets me pumped when I hear it and it just reminds be so much of the festival. It represents how high my energy was that day.

  8. Moment: When I went on my first cruise with my family. That was an amazing experience. I have no idea what to expect and that was just so much fun. It was a great summer memory that I will never forget there was so much fun activates to do and there was just such a relaxing feel to the trip.
Song: Beautiful Lady by Gyptian. I picked this because in the cruise there was a live band that played every day and they played this song and music just like this. This music is very calm and puts me in a good mood just like the cruise did.

Moment: My 8th grade promotion. This was a big moment for me. I finally felt like I was growing up. I couldn’t believe that I was going to be a high school student. High school was where it all mattered and I just couldn’t believe that I was growing up.
Song: Count on Me by Bruno Mars. At my promotion my class sang this song, so whenever I heard this song I just think of that day.

Moment: When my family from Delaware came into town to watch fireworks with us. It was such a fun time. We all laid around and watched the fireworks. My little cousins ran around playing and we all ate food and just had so much fun.
Song: Fireworks by Drake because in the song it says that all he sees is fireworks and that night that was all I saw, even when I was on my way home.

Moment: When I went down South with my family to visit my grandmother before she passed away. We all; my parents, aunt, uncle, cousins, grandfather, and brother went down to the hospital to be with her. Instead of sitting around her sad we all just laughed and remember great memories and did crazy things. That side of my family is filled with goofballs and we all just goofed around. Even though you say the pain in her eyes and her slowly losing the battle, it was the perfect way to say good bye.
Song: This Woman’s Work by Maxwell. I picked that because it didn’t matter how bad she way she still had a little fight in her and she still had a little laugh in her. We all should have been crying but instead we were just enjoying the little time we had left.

    1. Moment: My first day of high school. It was a whole new place from middle school. Everything was more serious and every little thing mattered. It was a new place that I was unsure on but I was ready and eager to start the challenge.

      Delete
  9. Moment: The first time my parents gave me a toy. I loved toys and I felt that I would show no other love towards something besides that toy.
Song: “A thousand Years” by Christina Perri. It’s saying that I have practically waiting my whole life for something that I can’t live without. In other words my love means more than anything for that toy. I was young and I never loved a teddy bear as much as I loved that one.

Moment: The first time I ever had a phone remember that I was telling everyone to call me. Even people that I just meet I was so excited that I had a phone that I could talk to people with.
Song: “Call me maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen. The concept of the song is about her telling a guy to call her since she liked him. Yes, I did that but I also told all the people that I knew that had a phone to call me.

Moment: The first time my mother left out the country I cried and held onto her leg asking her if she could stay with me. I wanted her to stay by my side but I had school and I couldn’t go with her.
Song: “Stay” by Rihanna. This song is saying that a person wants the person they care about to stay while the other person isn’t really affected. On the outside it seemed that my mother didn’t care but on the inside she did.

Moment: The first time I had a crush and he was hugging me I felt that I was home. It felt comfortable like the way it feels when I’m home. I felt that I was safe in his arms and that it was almost like its home.
Song: “Arms” by Christina Perri. This is talking about that she felt that she was home with this guy that she liked arms.

Moment: My friend and I were having a talk and each one of us were talking about how ugly we were. Then we both looked at each other and said that each one of us weren’t’ ugly
Song: “What makes you beautiful” by One Direction. This reminded us that we are beautiful even if we believe it or not. It talks about how when we step into a room that the room lights up with our appearance.

Moment: When I was about five I went to El Salvador and I got close to this boy. We liked each other and it helped that our parents were friends. We always saw each other but then it came time for my departure and we split our little “boyfriend” and “girlfriend” relationship.
Song: “We are never getting back together” by Taylor Swift. I knew that coming back to the United States him and I were never going to see each other. SO he could go off and have other little girlfriends while I was going to go off and have little boyfriends.

Moment: When I was young and my father was still alive he would always sing to me and play around. He would sing a song that my father and him made up. He always tried to protect me even from nothing. When I was young he was always play around with me and was like I will protect you from your brother. We would play a game where I would be a bird and my brother would be a cat and he was trying to eat me.
Song: “Safe and Sound” by Taylor Swift. This song is talking about someone trying to protect the other person. That even though they may be leaving that everything will be alright and they will protect them. My grandfather even though he is passed away he is still protecting me.

Moment: The first time I was in a court for a sweet 15 I was put with a guy that I wasn’t interested in. He always wanted to be by my side while I was more like stop following me. We aren’t friends anymore.
Song: “Stand by me” by Price Royce. In this song he is talking about the girl staying by his side and not leaving him. He is talking about no matter what time it is he wants the girl that he likes to be by his side.

Moment: The first time I to my heart crushed. It wasn’t that big of an impact for me but I was determined that I would find someone better for me. I promised myself that wouldn’t go after him and ask him if he wanted to get back together.

    1. Song: “Someone like you” by Adele. This song is saying that even though she has been dumped by the guy she liked that she will go off and find someone like him. She won’t go after him and beg him to take her back he will just leave him in peace.

Moment: I was with my friend and she liked this guy and I was put in the position of being cupid. I was going back and forth of telling each of them that they should go after the other guy. Then the guy sang a song to her saying that he wanted to be with her. That she was his Juliet and that he loved her.
Song: “Love Story” by Taylor Swift. This is talking about a girl that is gradually falling in love with a guy. Then they start going in love and say that they are meant to be together.

  10. 1. This past summer my family and I went to Hawaii. The highlight of the trip for me was when I jumped off of a 35 foot rock. A song that reminds me of this is “Free Fallin’” by Tom Petty, but only the refrain part because I was literally free falling down into the water.
    2. I think every year when I have to take mid-terms and final exams, the song “Under Pressure,” by Queen. All due to the fact that I get very nervous and feel very pressured to do well on those exams.
    3. When I was little, any time something bad or upsetting would happen to me, my mother would comfort me. A song that brings me back to those times is “Wagon Wheel,” by Darius Rucker. She would hold me in her arms and tell me that everything will be okay.
    4. Two summers ago, I went to Oregon and we drove down some very long roads. I mean like 20 miles long! The song that reminds me of those wide open roads is “Route 66,” by Chuck Berry. It was just a lot of open land and no buildings, houses or people for miles and miles.
    5. This situation is not as extreme as the song but when I went to Hershey Park this summer I was afraid to go on the roller coasters. I thought that if I did not go on them I would regret it and I know I would have. A song that reminds me of that time is “If Today Was Your Last Day,” by Nickleback. Because I always want to live to the fullest, and if I do not, I feel like I am missing out.
    6. Our first football game this past Saturday made me think of a song by Kenny Chesney, “Boys of Fall.” It talks about the emotions and everything that is going on before and during the game.
    7. One song that I feel I will relate to in the future is “Boys Round’ Here,” by Blake Shelton. I feel this way because I think it will relate to how my life is before I go to college and even while I am attending college, and about all of the friends I made in Dunellen and all of the friends I will make when I go away to school.
    8. A song that connects to the football and basketball seasons this year is “My Time,” by Fabolous. I believe that it is our time to prove to everyone that we are good enough and are capable to compete with the bigger schools, and win as well. It is our time this year.
    9. Another song that reminds me of this year’s football season is, “Can’t Be Touched,” by Roy Jones Jr. I chose this song because nobody can beat us. I know how cocky that sounds, but in football you have to play with the swagger and even a little cockiness, knowing that you are the best and that no team will be able to stop us. If you do not play with that attitude, you will just be walked on all season long.
    10. “Lean on me,” by Bill Withers makes me reminisce about before my sister went away to college. It just shows that no matter where she goes, I will always be there for her and I would do anything for her. She was my first true best friend and I miss her every day. As much as we fight and argue, I love her and I will always have her back and be protecting her.

  11. MOMENT: The night before Thanksgiving, sophomore year. It was one of the first times I was going to a real high school party, and it was the very first time I lied to my mom.
SONG: “Bad Reptutation” by Joan Jett. I chose this song because I’d never done anything like that behind my mother’s back before, and because I had no clue what was going to happen that night, and I didn’t care. I felt totally badass.

MOMENT: In March of my eighth grade year I had my first kiss in front of the bleachers at Columbia Park.
SONG: “Walking on Sunshine” by Katrina and the Waves. I chose this song because I literally felt like I was walking on sunshine. Even though the kiss was only mediocre, I was still super excited.

MOMENT: New Year’s Eve Junior year was probably one of the greatest nights of my life.
SONG: “Last Friday Night,” by Katy Perry, just because.

MOMENT: Mid July this past summer my friends and I stayed up all night and got up to all kinds of crazy shenanigans at our friend’s house. We call in “The Night of the Cold War”, but I’d rather not explain why.
SONG: “With a Little Help from my Friends,” by The Beatles. I chose this song because that night we all got together (except for when we lost Cody) and had a good time just messing around.

MOMENT: February 15th 2013 was the first time I ever had my heart completely shattered, and I didn’t come out of my room for a week.
SONG: Super cheesy but, “Last Kiss” by Taylor Swift. For the week I stayed in my room I listened to the song on repeat. It wasn’t exactly the best song to make myself feel better.

MOMENT: August 10th 2013, we had a surprise going away party for our friend Hoover. She was going away to school in North Carolina and we wanted to surprise her with a night she’d never forget.
SONG: “Up All Night” by Mac Miller. I chose this song because, well first of all, we were literally “up all night”, also, because things got a little out of hand, but mostly because we had a really great time.

  12. The knight collapsed to his knees amongst the bodies of his fallen brothers. The air, contaminated by corpses and blood stung his mouth and nose on each inhale. His sword, now shattered only about 5 inches from the hilt, was held with poor form in his left hand. His right hand was pressed against his bloodied gut, trying to stop the bleeding to no avail. Every muscle in his body screamed and begged him to lie down and die, but he wouldn’t dishonor himself. He wouldn’t lie down and disgrace his wife and children with a coward’s death.
He struggled to his feet once more and began dragging his weakened limbs over the corpses. He dared not look down. Men he’d killed, men that had tried to kill him, men he fought side by side with, even men he watched died. He wouldn’t let their ghosts haunt him now because a small part of him found it disrespectful. The rest of him knew that it was because he’d be seeing them all again soon.
The tree line wasn’t far now. He could almost smell the sweet pine trees and hear the sounds of the forest right in front of him. He took off his chest piece and threw it aside, immediately feeling the weight relieved from his person. Unfortunately, he started to hear the final group of reinforcements closing in on him. If he could just make it to the damned tree line, he’d at least have a chance.
After minutes of excruciating pain and the terrifying sound of the men closing in on him, he finally began pushing himself off from tree to tree, trying to be as sporadic as he could to try and lose them. It wasn’t like he knew where he was going, but he’d figure that out later. What mattered now was his life.
The whizzing of an arrow past his head and the thwack it made against a tree no more than two feet in front of him. He, whipped around, throwing the thought of bleeding out to the wind and took up his fighting stance with his now broken sword in both hands.
“Don’t toy with me because I’m injured and without a proper weapon!”
His challenge was met with silence.
“You live how you will, but I refuse to die a whimpering child!”
The sound of a deep drum echoed in the distance, followed immediately by a rushing downpour of water. The knight shook his head and pushed his hair out of his eyes and looked up, the nights sky now filled with flowing clouds and droplets of water still searching for his enemy.
From the shadows, a sword was sloppily flung towards him and landed at his feet. The knight looked towards where it came from, finally seeing a silhouette just standing, watching him.
“Your comrades were weak, I hope you know I spat on each one while we were after you.”
The knight twitched with anger, his knuckles turning white as he gripped the sword tighter.
“Don’t take offense, I spat on my own men as well. They were equally pitiful to be slain by men such as you.”

  13. 1. When I scored my first varsity touchdown I thought of the song “Ima Boss”, by Meek Mill in his verse he said I scored the winning touchdown.

    2. When I got my new g-shock for Christmas “Hard in the Paint” by Meek Mill made me feel like the man, because he said “rolly on my wrist looking brighter than my future is, I play for the dream team and hang out with the coolest kids.”

    3. Also when I received my first paycheck I thought of a song by Rick Ross called “Big Bank take Little Bank.”

    4. Another time when I received my largest paycheck I began to sing Chief Keef song “Think that I’m Kobe”, in the song he goes “I been balling so hard that I think that I’m Kobe swish.”
    5. “House Party,” describes me whenever I go to a party because I feel as though I need to enjoy myself. So I just let loose, have fun and most importantly turn up because you have to set the tone
    6. “Letter to BIG” is another song that can represent a very important part of my life. In the song it’s a letter to a dead person and its all the things that person wish they could have said but didn’t have the opportunity to do. And I feel this way from time to time with one of my friends and uncle that passed away.

    7. A song by one of the most lyrical artist I listen to called “Why” a highlight is my life often because it causes me to think and look at things in a different perspective. Here’s a half of “Why is the industry designed to keep the artist in debt, And why them dudes ain't ridin' if there part of your set
And why they never get it poppin' but they party to death”
    8. When me and my family went on vacation to several differ
rent states the song that immoderately “Party in USA.”

    9. September 4th, 2013 when we scrimmage North Plainfield I laid the quarterback out in my head the next play I was thinking “Here Comes The BOOM.”

    10. “Uoeno” was a pretty funny song and highlights numerous moments of my life but some of those moments are not for school, but “Uoeno” means you ain’t even know it, but one time I took my aunts cars for a spin around the block and that was the song playing on the radio.

  14. 1.) I was twelve years old and at my cousin Alex’s wedding in Massachusetts. This was the third wedding or so that I had attended and it was a very eventful night. I was consciously meeting many of my Albanian relatives for the first time, and if I can say one thing, it’s that when the Albanians congregate, they make the absolute most of it.
Song: Shout by Otis Day and the Knights. I chose this song because I first remember hearing it at this wedding, and ever since, I have associated this very song with weddings and big celebrations. Also, I became aware of something in myself on that magnificent weekend—that I do best when thrown entirely out of my comfort zone. I only knew my immediate family before this night, and after this experience, I grew much closer with my mom’s side of the family.
2.) My sister, Val, just got her certified pre-owned Chrysler Sebring—a snazzy yet subtle gold convertible. It was the summer going into her senior year of high school and my parents had surprised her with it one day when we got home from the pool we work at. A convertible in the summertime? You can only imagine how great a kick-off it was for both of our school years, and driving in general has itself proved vital to our many adventures over the years.
Song: The Underdog by Spoon. This song was playing in the movie Seventeen Again when Zac Efron’s character rolled up to school in his cool getup and awesome new sports car, and it perfectly sums up the effect that convertible had on the both of us. Free to go where we wanted whenever we wanted, this song has such an interesting yet catchy, happy-go-lucky melody, and it captures the excitement we had with the convertible.
3.) It was Wednesday night—a school night, in fact—and Val and I were cruising upstate to the Catskills, our bulging suitcases in the trunk. We were going to meet my parents at this magnificent mansion that we rented out for my mom’s fiftieth birthday. The others—about twenty or so of my family and “pseudo-family”—would be coming up the following day, but the first night was just my sister, my parents, and I, and despite the fact that this was not our house, it felt like home.
Song: All to Myself by Guy Sebastian. This song has an older vibe to it—like a Motown song—and I remember that Val and I listened to him so much that fall. It was before Hurricane Sandy hit our area and I remember that it was a really great autumn up until the power outage.
4.) I was in about first grade, and as part of a Girl Scout event, we had the father daughter dance to celebrate Valentine’s Day. My dad and I looked pretty dapper that night and although it was always a little awkward to have your parent at a dance, it was a great memory.
Song: YMCA by the Village People. This song was something that everyone could dance to, and it is the one that stands out most in my mind from those dances. This also signals the beginning of my crazy dance moves, which is a significant marker.

  15. 5.) Two summers ago, my sister and I were cruising down the shore to meet our parents at the condo we own in Ortley Beach, and the top to Val’s convertible was down. We blasted our country music all the way down and our hair was whipping back and forth as we made it over the Toms River Bridge.
Song: A Little Bit Later on by Luke Bryan. This song is really catchy and a great summer song and it sums up this experience very well.
6.) I love to watch the movie Fired Up, which is basically your typical juvenile teen comedy. Val, my friends from the Green Brook Swim Club, and I made a habit out of slipping great movie quotes into daily conversations, and this is definitely the one that is quoted the most.
Song: Here I Go Again by White Snake. I have loved this song for as long as I can remember, but it was also featured at the end of Fired Up when the credits were rolling. The two main characters were singing it, and it made me love the movie that much more. Since I have a huge interest in movies and pop culture in general, this type of memory never fails to put a smile on my face.
7.) Recently, I went to a restaurant while down the shore with my parents, my aunt and uncle, my sister, and my cousins. We were seated right near the live entertainment and it was such a great time because they were playing music from the fifties. We were dancing and singing along and we laughed a lot.
Song: Ain’t No Mountain High Enough by Marin Gaye. This song came on and we all acted out the lyrics on the dance floor. I have always loved this type of music, and this song actually has many other great memories attached to it, so it was more like a cheerful extension of those memories.
8.) After I spend an hour each week at my church as a CCD aid, Val, my cousin Julian, and I hip in the car to drop Julian off at his house. We always make sure to blast a certain song and sing along at the top of our lungs. I like to think that we have also improved at singing it.
Song: My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion. This is the type of song that is a lot of fun to belt for no reason, and the lyrics, although meaningful, can easily be taken very lightly, which is what we always do. My cousins and I love to sing this song on all occasions because we enjoy just having simple fun together, and whenever I hear this song come on the radio, I make sure to sing it out as a tribute to those great car rides.
9.) My family used to have dinner every Friday night when I was in elementary school, and we would cook a nice Italian meal, making sure to play the Italian music in the background.
Song: Hey Mambo by Dean Martin. My sister and I loved this song the best of all the Dean Martin we played, and the great thing about music is that it is a great memory trigger; so every time I hear Dean Martin, my mind goes right back to these precious Friday nights we would spend together.
10.) When I was ten years old, my family rented a house on a bay lagoon, and we would have a talent show each year on the last night there. My cousins and I would make up dances to the typical pop music of the time, and sometimes those moves will come back to me.
Song: Ride Wit Me by Nelly. This song was one of my favorites from that year, and the dance moves were really easy. Basically, it was just swaying and making a steering wheel motion when the chorus came around. The carefree nature of this vacation is something that I have not had in a while, but I love to remember how it felt.

  16. 1) Moment: On a summer night my dad came by drinking but didn't fight my mother that night. We woke up to him and cucumbers. As we pour salt on them, my face turned into some sour look haha... My dad left that night after having an argument with my mother. I heard it but after a while of strictly music, I went to sleep and he left some money under my pillow.
Song: "Dance With My Father Again" by Luther Vandross. I picked this song because it connects with me pretty well especially when I go through the stages of maturing. My dad hasn't been around when I needed him most so this song usually can get me to the next level after I've thought about my situation and planned some things out.

    2) Moment: Many times before, as a child, I've sang this song to my mother between the ages of 3 and 5. I cried to this song before with my mom. We've always been able to connect with one another but I don't know where that connection went because now it's different.
Song: "Incomplete" by Sisqo. I picked this song because it brings back memories with my mom.

    3) Moment: I had began to love this girl when I was in 7th grade and she broke my heart a number of times. My coping song gave me the strength, when I was discouraged, to keep the relationship.
Song: "Rain" by Razah. This song brings back memories as well but I don't listen to it anymore. This song actually was hidden under dust as an "unnecessary file" in the back of my mind for a while hahaha. Hope you guys like it.

    4) Moment: I had met this girl over the internet when I was in 10th grade and we connected pretty fast. After only about 3months of talking, I began to actually feel her presence and pain/ negative emotions. It was awkward but I loved her so much.
Song: "Four Letter Word" by Diggy Simmons. I picked this song because I wanted it to be our theme song. She had changed our theme song the "Lazy Love" by Neyo but I didn't understand why. I'll think about why..

    5) Moment: The same girl that I met online, I broke up with because I couldn't deal with the pain that came behind me making a mistake. Being almost honest, I told her about something that happened but didn't tell her the full story because I didn't want to hurt her and I held it in. I guess holding it in hurt me more in the long run but my way of letter her vent, since we favored music, I sent her to a song that I figured would be of great help.
Song: "24 hours" by Mayu Wakisaka. I picked this song because it reminds me of those nights she wouldn't say a word on the phone and would just ask me to play it or she would just play it herself and there would be complete silence. The harmony would rule the moment.

    6) Moment: I can remember, when my brother played a song on the computer one night when he had gotten in from being in the projects and he was dating this girl named Desiree. He told me "watchu know about this?" He told me to sing it because at that time, I would sing any song and be good at it.
Song: "Illusions" by Pleasure P. This reminds me of my brother. He's out of my life again but he'll be back soon.

    7) Moment: I can remember when my brother played this song for me one day while we were in my dads house. He was with my God brother Jordan. They played it for me and it wasn't a bad song.
Song: "Throw it in the Bag" by Fabulous. I'm instantly reminded of my brother the first couple of seconds it plays.

  17. Moment 1: When my grandpa died and I was so upset and only in 3rd grade. I picked the song What Hurt the Most by Rascal Flatts because I know that I will see my grandpa again and when he died it wasn't goodbye.

Moment 2: My first day of freshman year i was nervous and unsure what the year would bring. Fifteen by Taylor Swift is the best song for this moment.I picked this song because it was about her friend’s first day of high school and what she went though in that real and it make me feel better about starting high school.

Moment 3: When I went to Arizona last summer and flew by myself for the first time. And was away from my family for two weeks. Better than this Hunter Hayes is the song I picked for this moment because its one of my favorite song and it reminds me of being free and on my own.

Moment 4: When I went to Florida this past summer and me and my cousin had a bonfire. Summer Nights by Rascal Flatts is the song I felt described this moment because it was the perfect summer night sitting around the fire.

Moment 5: When I met my best friend in preschool and we were both three years old and are still friends now. True friend by Hannah Montana because this song is about best friends and how they would do anything for one another like me and my friend.

Moment 6: When I dropped my brother off at college in August. The song I picked is See You Again by Carrie Underwood because I miss him now but I'll see him soon.

Moment 7: when I me and my mom got my dog Lambert, I was so excited to get my first pet, I was only in first grade. I spent the whole day with my mom and we had a good time. The song that describes this moment is The Best Day With You by Taylor Swift because it reminds me of my relationship with mom my.

Moment 8: When I went to the bonfire for the football game the night before the thanksgiving game and I went with my cousin and my friend. we had so much fun and we really bonded that night. a song that reminds me of this night is I Go Back by Kenny Chesney because it is a song about reminiscing and high school memories.

Moment 9: The first time I drove a car, I was really nervous but I really liked it. A song that described this moment is Highway Don't care by Tim McGraw because its about the highway and being free.

Moment 10: When my baby cousin was born and I was there and met him. I cant believe it was already three years old. a song that I think describes this moment is Ronan by Taylor Swift because it is about a baby boy that dies but I cousin didn't die he is just growing up.

  18. Moment: 1995. When I was born on November 10th.
Song: “Las Mañanitas”- Vicente Fernandez. This is the song that is sung for birthdays in the Hispanic culture. I chose this song because it wasn’t only my day of birth but it was also my mom’s 30th birthday. I like to imagine that this was a beautiful day and that I was received with lots of love and happiness. I tell my mom I was the best birthday gift she could’ve received.

Moment: 2000. The first time I came to the U.S. My mom was already living here for a few months. Because of the circumstances we were in, I was flying with a friend and couldn’t associate with my father since I supposedly didn’t know him. Being only five years old I didn’t understand and ran to my father since I was very excited.
Song: “A Whole New World”- Aladdin. This song describes what it felt like to leave my home to go to a completely unknown country. My life here in the U.S. is completely different then it was back in Colombia. Everything here was new to me and I began a brand new life and a different way of living.

Moment: 2000. My parent’s marriage didn’t last much longer from when we all came to live in the U.S. After only a few months my parents separated and my mom and I moved out while my brother stayed with my dad.
Song: “Family Portrait”- Pink. This song describes the wishes of a little girl to have her family return to how perfect they used to be. At a young age it’s difficult to understand what is really going on but this song meant a lot to me while I continued to grow up. I can’t remember a holiday celebrated with both my parents. Although I now understand why everything happened there are still times when I imagine what my life would’ve been like if my family was still together.

Moment: 2007. I had recently visited Colombia with my dad. It had been about six years since I had moved here. Although my memory has never been very good I remember that my grandpa was one of the three family members I recognized, the other two being my closest cousins. A few months after I had come back my cousin had told me that my grandpa was sick and I planned on calling him. I never did it because I always worried about not knowing what to say to him. A few weeks later my grandpa passed away.
Song: "Amor Eterno"- Rocio Durcal. This song describes the feelings of someone who has lost someone special to them. Although it wasn't a long relationship, my grandpa was one of the most important and special men in my life. There's nothing I wish more than to have gotten the opportunity to share more with him. It will forever be my biggest regret not to have called my grandpa when I had the chance too. This song is beautifully written and it's exactly how I feel. I hope that although I never expressed my feelings towards him, that my grandpa understands how much he means to me.

Moment: 2008. My second visit to Colombia was with my mom and a few family members. We spent a few weeks there and celebrated Christmas. It was my first experience where I let my innocence and vulnerability take the best of me. I met a guy who I immediately fell for and he had a huge impact on my life. For about two years I let my life revolve around someone who I barely knew that lived in a different country.
Song: "Te Extraño"- Extreme. I chose this song because the words say exactly how I felt during that time. My inexperience let me live in an illusion for such a long time.

Moment: 2010. My brother went to jail due to a very bad relationship with an ex-girlfriend.
Song: “El Reo Ausente”- Pastor Lopez. The worst thing about this time period was how it affected my mom. It was a very challenging position for me because I had to be my mom’s support. Although this song has a part where the view point is from the prisoner, it affected me because I related the description to how my mother must have felt.

  19. Moment: 2011. When I met and began my relationship with my boyfriend. It was very unexpected but it was exactly what I needed at the moment. In the beginning everything was perfect.
Song: “Gotas de Agua Dulce”- Juanes. This artist used to be my favorite singer when I was younger. It describes how it wasn’t something I was expecting but once it happened how perfectly it fit into my life. Although everything happened so quickly I definitely felt like he was my “gotas de agua dulce, rayo de sol”.

Moment: 2011. This summer was something I had been planning for years. I had spent my quinceañera money on buying myself a ticket to Colombia. I had begged, cried, and dreamt about going to Colombia and I finally got to do it.
Song: “We Can’t Stop”- Miley Cyrus. Although my aunts where supposed to look after me while I was on vacation, since I traveled alone there was a sense of freedom I had never felt before. My aunts where put in a tough position between what my mom told them and what I wanted to do. After a few problems I was under my cousin’s supervision, which wasn’t the best idea. I was only 15 at the time while my cousin was 19. I enjoyed my vacation to the fullest, going out with my cousins and making new friends. I abused of my freedom and as the song says, I took this vacation as my party and did whatever I wanted.

Moment: 2011. Finally after two long months in Colombia, I came back to where I belonged.
Song: “Homecoming”- Hey Monday. After I came back I realized everything I had done and the bad decisions I had made. I regretted many of my choices. I felt that this experience helped me grow up and become more mature. The song expresses the desire I felt to be accepted and forgiven after all I had done.

Moment: 2013. This past summer vacation after two years I finally got to visit my dad in California.
Song: "Mi Querido Viejo"- Piero. My dad and I were never close. It runs on his side of the family to be serious and not very open and I am the same way. Even if we both had tried to communicate in the past our conversations never got really far. I was determined to know more about my daddy and made a big effort during the three weeks I was with him. I would ask my dad many questions and I got to know more about the man he is although he was still a little closed off. I understand my dad is getting older and I feel this song describes how I see him although I really wish it isn't true and that he could find happiness.

  20. Moment: When my sister came home from the hospital.
Song: Lets all go to the party. This is a children’s song that my sister always loved to listen to. It is kind of silly but it basically defines her toddler stage for me. It is also an upbeat song so it celebrated her being better after having pneumonia.

Moment: How I felt, someone else probably felt, when that someone cut me out of their life.
Song: 50 ways to say goodbye by train. After this happened I had trouble understanding how this person could have completely cut me out of their life. I feel like this person must have pretended that something must have happened to me like in this song to be able to actually not even acknowledge me.

Moment: When I first had alcohol and I thought about how quickly what mistakes like that could lead to.
Song: We Cry by The Script. This is a sad song that describes three promising young adults that make a bad choice or series of bad choices that changes their lives forever. I realized that even though one or two experiences will not cause such terrible results but it is when these experiences become daily choices that is when they can affect your life forever.

Moment: The first time I went to a wake.
Song: There would not be a song playing. I put this down because It was a very significant time in my life but if this were a movie there would not be any music. Death was not real before this and the deceased died of cancer which was even scarier. He was 23. It made me realize how short life is and we all need to live to our fullest.

Moment: How I felt when I began to deal with depression.
Song: Viva la Vida by Coldplay. This song always makes me feel sad and when I was dealing with depression it was cause by some of the things discussed in the song. “ One minute I held the key, Next the walls were closed on me, And I discovered that my castles stand, Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand” these lyrics I especially connect with while thinking about this time because I felt as though I had lost everything and there was nowhere to turn.

Moment: The first time I went to a concert.
Song: I don’t wanna be by Gavin Degraw. This is the first song that was played at my first concert which was significant because I was going through a time where others wanted me to be who I wasn’t.

Moment: The first time I performed on stage.
Song: If you could see me now by The Script. I thought about my grandfather a lot when I had my first experience on stage. He died when I was four and he never really got to see me be succesfull. I wonder if he would expect more from me or if he would be happy with where I am now in life.

Moment: When my dad was in the hospital.
Song: Alice’s Restaurant by Arlo Guthrie. This is one of his favorite songs and I know when he was in the hospital I was trying to think of things that he would be able to enjoy that were his favorite. I wish I had known about this song then.

Moment: The first time I had to thing about important moments in my life for creative writing.
Song: If this were a movie by Taylor Swift. I chose this song because I had never really thought about my life as a movie before and I could connect with Taylor Swift as she had already thought of how her life would be as a movie.

Moment: When my sister came home from china.
Song: Home by Phillip Phillips. When my sister came home I wanted to make my home her home. She was young and had traveled a long way to be my sister. I didn’t really understand much about the process but I knew I wanted to share all of my toys so she would be comfortable. This moment was not as significant then as it is now since then I did not even understand the meaning of significance. Now it means a lot to me because I am really close to my sister now.

  21. Moment: In middle school, having all my friends over for a sleepover. We would take chairs and gather around the computer table. Each of us went on Facebook and we would go on YouTube and listen to music.
Song: “Watagatapitusberry” is a song sang by a bunch of teenagers. It is a remake from one of Pitbulls songs. I choose this song because the video describe how we are when were all together. We are wild and cause trouble.
Moment: When I had my first real boyfriend. He dedicated the song to me but it had my cousin’s name in it, so it was awkward but that just described how we were. We were are still friends and talk like we are brother and sister.
Song: “Para Siempre” is a song that has a mixture of Spanish and English in it. It talked about how we will always be there for each other. Also that we won’t forget about each other.
Moment: When my friend used to live here, I and she were always together. We would go out everywhere if we had to walk or not, we found away. We acted like sisters, but we were always there for each other.
Song: “Just You and I” I choose this song because, it explained me and hers relationship. We both feel in love with this song while we were walking to a different town. It also described how we were always there no matter what.
Moment: I and my brothers were all downstairs and my mom was out so we started blasting music and having fun. When a song came on we all started dancing. We all have our moments when this song came on.
Song: “Work” it is a rap song but it makes you hyped up. We all started moving our arms and shaking our heads. There were three of us just singing and jamming out.
Moment: when my dad and I went to El Salvador for my cousins sweet fifteen. She had a main song that got stuck in my head. So now my dad and I sing it every time we hear it. Whenever it comes on it brings back memories.
Song: “Lo Que Paso” It’s a song from Daddy Yankee. My cousin played it for her and her friends to do a dance to. MY dad and I danced to it while my cousin and her friends were doing a dance.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Moment: My god sister and I would practice a type of dance so we always played the same song to dance to. It was also the time we were practicing and her mom walked in on us dancing and it was awkward. But besides that we would always try to do that dance perfectly.
Song: “Bisexual Girl” It was a whining type of song. A song that was easy to just dance to and go with the flow. The song was really weird. Like the lyrics are really weird.
Moment: I and my friends were all in the car going to the mall and we started to jam out because we were all really hyped for some reason. We were moving our arms around and singing. We were moving a lot in the car.
Song: “Yawk Yawk Yawk” it’s a type of rap song. It gets you wild up and just want to move around. It describes how we were all moving around in the car.
Moment: I was with my ex-boyfriend and his friends at their friend’s house, we were outside hanging out. Playing basketball, and just sitting around talking about funny things. We would crack jokes on each other.
Song: “Pusha Man” It’s a type of rap. But it isn’t as rowdy as the rest it’s mellow and just nice and easy going. It doesn’t make you that pumped up as other rap song does. It makes you just sit there and enjoy life.
Moment: My neighbors and I were always together and we would always sing this song no matter what we were doing. We would always have sleepovers. We played outside no matter what; there was just a big group of us in a mob walking up and down the block. We went everywhere together.
Song: “Story of a Girl” it didn’t really relate to us as much, but it was a song that we got from a video game so we would always sing it to each other. None of us were good singers either, so it just sounded bad.
Moment: My ex-boyfriend dedicated a song to me saying that he will treat me right. The song was really cute and I enjoyed it a lot. It became one of my favorite songs.
Song: “My Queen” It is a perfect song to put as a song for a video of two couples that have been together for a while. It made me tear the first time I heard it because, he dedicated that song to me when he left for vacation.

  23. Moment: In middle school, all of my friends and I used to hang out at one person’s house. We literally sat around the computer and argued about what song to search on YouTube. We would take turns swirling round on the desk chair and more than one person was always making something to eat.
Song: “Watagatapitusberry”- was a YouTube famous song that was just lyrics of nonsense. It was one of our favorite songs and, oddly enough, we can relate to it. We were running around, causing trouble, being weird and no one could understand what we were saying. The only people that understood were in on it.
Moment: It’s the summer before my first year in high school and I had a lot of scary expectations. I had expected to be alone, as sad as that sounds, I thought my friends and I would all separate. I couldn’t imagine myself sitting with anyone at lunch. (I was wrong, but only because I assume the worse.)
Song: “Miss Invisible”- this is by Marie Digby. It’s about a girl who gets picked on at school and eats alone under the bleachers. It’s about her struggles and how in the end she finds a find under the bleachers. Even though I didn’t eat alone or under the bleachers, I did feel alone and eventually was able to find a friend.
Moment: I had been dating my boyfriend for a while and unlike some couples we didn’t have a “song”; one of those songs that the couple dedicates to themselves/ each other. My friend took it upon herself to find one for us.
Song: “Perfect Two”- Auburn. This song is just about how you’re the peanut butter to my jelly and so on. It goes on about on about how she isn’t the same without the one she cares about. This was special because as different as we can be from each other, we’re not the same without each other.
Moment: When I was in elementary school, I got picked on. It took a toll on my self-confidence, especially when it carried over to middle school. But with my friends at my back, I became more confidence. Now, my confidence is continuing to be re-built.
Song: “Titanium”- David Guetta. This song is all about how he won’t be brought down. People can say or do anything and he’ll just get back up and continue on with his life. I decided to do the same.
Moment: This is another one about when I was having a hard time in school. Instead being quiet about it, I started doing something about it. I was telling them to stop and fighting back for all the things that mattered.
Song: “Brave”- Sara Barielles. This song is about choice. You can decide to lay there and let people walk all over you or stop them. I used my words to protect myself and her music to inspire those words.

  24. Moment: When I was in elementary school, my mom was going to grad school. I would get upset and miss her. When I was falling apart and crying, my sisters would pick up the pieces and make me feel better.
Song: “Lego House”- Ed Sheeran. This song is about picking up the pieces and working hard to make things right. It’s also about how you’ll do anything for the people you care about and that will make the love between those people even stronger.
Moment: When I was little, my family lived in South Carolina and we went to the beach one year for my birthday. My whole family loves the beach and we always have so much fun. That was a just a really good time. My sisters took me out into the ocean for the first time andi learned how to build a sand castle.
Song: “Yellow Submarine”- The Beatles. Most people have no idea what this song is really about. I think it’s about all the peace at sea and that that’s all you need. A sea of green below you and a sky of blue above you will make the world go around.
Moment: This summer my family and I went on a road trip. We drove all the way down to Florida and it’s the journey that is sometimes better than the vacation itself.
Song: “Route 66”- Nat King Cole. This is the perfect road trip song. It’s all about the best road to take a road trip song so it just makes perfect sense.
Moment: Every soccer season that I play is very hard. Our coach pushes us to our maximum level and it’s very hard and draining. I’m sore and tired and I just want to sleep but I keep pushing myself. All that hard work pays off when we win a game together and walk into as winners.
Song: “Remember the Name”- Fort Minor. I chose this song, mainly for the chorus because it’s kind of an equation for success. (Ten percent luck, twenty percent skill, etc.)
Moment: This summer was one of the best summers I’ve had with my friends. We were going out and having fun, just letting our worries go for a little while. We all got our first jobs and as much as we want the money, the responsibility is tiresome. This summer we spent it just letting loose.
Song: “All-Star”- Smashmouth. This song is about running away from the rules and not caring what anyone thinks or says. It’s, plainly, just about having a good time through it all.

  25. Moment: When I was younger, I don’t exactly remember when, my father would sing silly songs to me. Recently when we were hanging out he started singing a song that made me remember all of those times we had before.
Song: “Isn’t She Lovely” by Stevie Wonder. This song was the one on the radio that he sang. Once he started saying the words I remembered all the fun things we’ve done together. I even remembered a few of the times he sang the song to me. This song will forever be one of my favorites and will always remind me of him.
Moment: About two summers ago my cousin moved to Brooklyn from Trinidad and I finally go to meet her. During this time we hung out a lot and she even stayed by my house for about a month. My other older cousin came by and hung out with us as well.
Song: “Bruk it down” by Mr. Vegas. This song was on repeat for that summer and we would stop and dance like mad people. Anytime I hear the song it reminds me of the good times we had.
Moment: This is more of a combined memory then of just one moment. A few years ago my grandfather passed away and last year I lost my great grandfather as well. Losing both of them was extremely hard on me and felt like my life did a complete 180.
Song: “Never Gonna Be the Same” by Sean Paul. This song is about losing someone and how you feel like life has changed. During that time my life did change. I can no longer call or visit either of them and it left our family gatherings feeling empty. My life really isn’t the same without them.
Moment: When I cheated on my past boyfriend and kept it a secret from him
Song: “Unfaithful” by Rihanna. I chose this song because it kept going on repeat through my head. For the whole relationship I felt like I was lying and that it needed to end.
Moment: When I found out that one of my closest friends was really a jerk and I cut them out of my life.
Song: “Ignorance” by Paramore. The song talks about how someone believed their best friend was like family, but really turned out to be another person judging them. In the end the singer talks about cutting the person out and pretending she doesn’t know them.
Moment: When me and my boyfriend (of right now) hung out for the first time as a couple with the rest of our friends. We were laughing and joking around the whole time, but he did get on my nerves a few times. So anytime I was starting to get annoyed he could sense it and fixed immediately went to fix it.
Song: “Right through Me” by Nicki Minaj. I chose this song because it explains how we both know each other so well, that it can bug the other. It’s like a good and bad thing that we both love and hate.
Moment: When I was hanging out with an old best friend a long time ago and his cousin hit me. I at that moment went a little mad and decided to beat the guy up. Bad decision then, but it made me feel awesome at the time.
Song: “Ring the Alarm” by Beyoncé. I chose this song because at the time I felt like a serious bad ass. I did some serious damage and didn’t care if I got in trouble. Of course now I see that wasn’t the right way to deal with the situation and I do feel sorry. I actually told my friend to tell his cousin I said sorry on a few occasions. But back when I did it an apology would not have been given lol.

  26. Moment: A few years ago when I spent the whole summer by my dad’s house. I got to see my father, grandparents, aunt, and best friend every day. It was one of the best summers I had in a long time.
Song: “So good” by Destiny’s Child. This song could describe how I felt the whole time. I was pretty much on cloud nine and felt awesome.
Moment: It was maybe two years ago where my mother and I got into a serious argument. I decided not to talk to her for a week and allowed the anger to boil inside me. During this time I just went on a rampage and destroyed stuff and was mean to everyone.
Song: “Yonkers” by Tyler the Creator. This song was the only thing that helped me calm down. The lyrics made me laugh and helped get all the anger out. This song was my feel good song and kind of, in a way, described what was going through my mind.
Moment: Last year, on the night of my birthday, my mother, I, and my sisters went out to get some pizza. On our way there we blasted a lot of Whitney Houston music. Why it was her music? I have no idea but it was one of the times where my mother and I got along without it going downhill. I cherish every one of these moments because they are the ones I try to make happen as often as possible.
Song: “I Will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston. This is the song we belted out and just enjoyed ourselves to. All four of us went wild and it just made the song even better when hearing 3 other voice parts for it. This song will always remind me of that night.

  28. Moment: When I found out that someone was making up rumors behind my back.
Song: “I Dont Care” by Fall Out Boy. This song expresses the way I felt after I found out about the rumors, i don't care what they think.

Moment: Whenever I feel insecure or unsure of myself.
Song: “Roger Rabbit” by Sleeping with Sirens. The songs doesn't necessarily tell me everything that I want to hear, but it gives me more of the truth. It reminds me that I have to be strong & love myself first, because no one is going to hold my hand & guide me through life.

Moment: When I was younger, I used to live in San Diego. I remember going to the beach with my dad and watching him surf.
Song:”Three Little Birds” by Bob Marley. This song just reminds me of the carefree and calm days a spent with by dad on the beach.

Moment: When I was about thirteen I got into my first real fight with my mom. I remember feeling so frustrated and angry cause I couldn't say everything I wanted to.

I plan to follow my dreams just as the members of Sleeping with Sirens did & to not let negative influences bring me down. :)

  30. MOMENT: 11th grade, soccer senior night. I remember the anxious feeling in my gut, the match was tied at zero and it came down to penalty kicks.
SONG: We’re all in this together- High School Musical Cast. I thought of this song because after we had won the game, nearly the entire crowd burst onto the field to congratulate us. This act made us not only feel overjoyed but accepted because the football team was finally realizing that we weren’t a joke and we were in fact, All in this together.
MOMENT: Childhood; Growing up I spent a lot of time at my grandparent’s house while my parents were working.
SONG: Who I Am –Jessica Andrews ; The lyrics from this song portrayed my life at that time, and even so now. This song is very sentimental to me because my grandmother’s name is in fact Rosemary, and so the song has a much deeper effect on me.
    “I am Rosemary's granddaughter
The spitting image of my father
And when the day is done
My momma's still my biggest fan.”

MOMENT: First day of freshman year, not knowing where to sit or who to talk to.
SONG: Fifteen- Taylor Swift. I think just about every girl picks this song to describe their first day. It just talks about being nervous, and how you’re stuck in the same school for the next four years so you better be ready for all of the challenges ahead of you. It’s kind of like trying to fit in and find who you are before you go searching for love and believing all of what the high school guys tell you.
    MOMENT: February 14, 2013 (Valentine’s Day)
SONG: Somebody’s Heartbreak- Hunter Hayes. This year on valentine’s day I was asked out by my crush(now boyfriend obvi.) by him singing this song to me. However the lyrics were changed a little, and each time the song comes on they stay the same as the first day (If you're lookin' to be somebody's 'just friends',
A little laughin', little lovin', never callin' again, that's just fine- to NO IT’S NOT.)This song will forever hold the memory of that special day, because in that moment it made me feel as if I was the most special person in the world. This is really cheesy to anyone else, but to me it was the cutest thing ever.

    ReplyDelete
  31. MOMENT: Heartbreak sophomore year- getting over it and realizing that you are better and stronger than them.
SONG: Thnks fr th Mmrs- Fall Out Boy. This song related to my life at that point, and how moving on is the best decision you can make. Even though it may have been everything you ever wanted at one point, there is always better memories to be made beyond it. “Thanks for the memories even though they weren't so great” which is basically like saying, “Thanks for spending the time with me but I’m now realizing it wasn’t so great after all.”

    MOMENT: My past.
SONG: If you can’t hang- Sleeping With Sirens. Kellin sings about his ex-wife that cheated on him. This song reminds me of my past and how I wasted my time on all of the wrong people. It just reminds me to move forward with my life. “if you can’t hang, then there’s the door baby,” which is basically saying if you don’t plan on staying in my life or making a positive impact, you can leave now.

    MOMENT: My future.
SONG: If I’m James Dean, You’re Audrey Hepburn. This song is an uplifting song to me because whenever I listen to it I think about my boyfriend. (Cheesy again…derp face) But the whole “ they say that love is forever, you’re forever is all that I need” is basically every girl ( and hopefully guy’s) outlook on a perfect relationship, and falling so in love with the other that you just want them there for forever.

MOMENT: Beginning of the year, finding out that you’re ‘real friends’ don’t give a damn about you and dropping you because you have new friends and a boyfriend.
SONG: With Ears to See, and Eyes to Hear. “lie lie liar, liar you’ll pay for your sins” Realizing that my friends that had said they would be there for me through thick and thin didn’t really mean it. The moment I became involved with new people and a boyfriend, they ditched out on me and now karma is biting at them.

MOMENT: growing up around my cousins and just having good times.
SONG: Where is your boy tonight? – Fall Out Boy. This song didn’t really mean much to me at the time, just a fun song to sing with my cousin while we swam in our grandparent’s pool.
MOMENT: Feeling happy every time I’m around my boyfriend.
SONG: Still into You-Paramore. This song is just about still getting those butterflies every time you see someone, even though you’ve seen them a thousand times. The feelings are so strong that they could never dull.

  32. Moment 1
Driving up to the beach with my good ‘ole pal Jonny Frey. We drove up and decided to get up to our usual teenage shenanigans, terrorizing people on the road and stopping every couple feet for food. Anyway, at one point I put a blue ski mask on and began to stare at people and just enjoyed all their reactions.
For this moment I would choose the song EARL, by Earl Sweatshirt. The song has a very violent and raw sound to it, which would accompany the generally idiotic things me and Jonny were doing while driving. If it were a movie, it would just cut around to random scenes of us at the best parts, because there was a lot of just sitting around.

    Moment 2
    All of Junior Year
For this long and drawn out moment I would pick the song Sunday by Earl Sweatshirt. In the chorus of the song it says “My Dreams got dimmer when I stopped smoking pot, Nightmares got more vivid when I stopped smoking pot” Now replace the words “stop smoking pot” with “in junior year and that basically sums up how I felt during junior year, with my loss of faith in humanity.

    Moment 3
Adventuring through the Raritan Valley quarry/reservoir.
At this time I was hanging out with my friend Tim Zelinski a lot at this point of my life and it was one of the best points in my life, just adventuring through the woods and quarry blasting metal music and just doing general teenage boy stuff, like attempting to start a fight club. The song that would go best with this is Thunder Horse by Deathklok, because its metal and it’s kind of funny. Funny like the conversations we had, and jokes we cracked.

  33. Moment: This past March, I lost my Uncle Pat from a Heart Attack
Song: “My immortal” by Evanescence. I chose this song because it was one of his favorite bands. In the song it talks about how when someone passes away, they will always be there to wipe the tears.
Moment: When I saw my Uncle David when he came up to visit me from Florida
Song: “Arms” by Christina Perri. I chose this song because it describes a relationship you have with someone that you are extremely close with and when you hug them, you just feel like your home.
Moment: When I first started driving and my mom and I were dancing in the car.
Song: “What goes around” by Justin Timberlake. I chose this song because when I drive in a cul de sac at my uncle’s house we have to turn around and one of the lyrics is what goes around comes around and me and my mom were dancing to that song.
Moment: When I went to the movie theatre with my Friends Natalie, Freddy, Peter, and Alex, we went and saw “The Great Gatsby”
Song: “Young and Beautiful” by Lana Del Rey. I chose this song because they played this song so much and the song represents me and my friend’s relationship that no matter what happens we will always be there for each other and love each other.
Moment: On my Sixteenth Birthday, I got a surprise party.
Song: “ A thousand years” by Christina Perri. I chose this song because I was so happy and in love because even though I couldn’t have a big birthday party, my family threw me a surprise party. I loved them for that.
Moment: This happened recently, but when my Aunt Diane passed away
Song: “Unchained” Van Halen. I chose this song because she LOVED Van Halen. When I went in the car right after she passed away, it started playing.
Moment: When I moved to my new house this summer.
Song: “Take back the night” by Justin Timberlake. Me and my mom are really big fans and that song played over and over and over again on the radio when we were trying to move in.
Moment: When I met my Best Friend Natalie
Song: “Count on me” Bruno Mars. This song is about being there for such a good friend, that no matter what, we will be there for each other. If it’s two in the morning or in the middle of the day, she will always answer my calls or texts and be my best friend until the end.
Moment: When I got the water speakers (by the way, they are so cool)
Song: “Clarity” by Zedd. I remembered how cool the water was inside the speakers. The water with the song went perfect together.
Moment: The time when I was at Natalie’s house and me and her put o chains and walked around the house screaming Were Different.
Song: “I’m Different” By 2 Chainz. I chose this song because me and her were walking around the house screaming were different with chains on. Then we started playing this song and continued singing.

  34. MOMENT: Summer of 2010, when Spain won the World Cup. It was one of the most memorable and best experiences that I have had, to have been in Spain and celebrate the country’s victory.
SONG: “Waka Waka” by Shakira. This song was sort of the theme song for the World Cup and it constantly played but I loved it. It was so fun to be a part of all the celebration and feasts and all the fireworks after Spain won the Cup. It made me feel so proud to be partially from such a beautiful country with such amazing people an obviously one of the best soccer teams in the world.

MOMENT: Putting on my glasses for the first time when I was 12 years old. I had noticed that I needed them on my road trip to Florida when my uncle would ask me to read signs along the way and I could not make out the words.
SONG: “A Whole New World” – Aladdin. I literally felt as though I was seeing an entire different world when I put on my glasses. I did not realize how poor my eyesight was until I was able to put them on and see everything much clearer; it made a huge difference.

MOMENT: The first day of high school was very nerve wrecking and it was a complete new experience for me.
SONG: “Fifteen” by Taylor Swift. This song describes what the first day of high school is like and it also talks of dating an older boy and the feelings that come along with that. I can relate to the song because it describes how my year went and also because that is when I began dating my boyfriend, who is also older than I am.

MOMENT: One of my favorite memories was my Quinceañera, mainly because nothing has been the same since then. Absolutely everything has changed, in every aspect of my life. Now I do not even associate with more than half of the people that were there, including some of my best friends and even family.
SONG: “Tiempo de Vals” by Chayanne. This song is the song that my father and I shared on my special day. Our many conflicts were put aside for that night and we were all so happy. Although things are not the way they used to be, this song will forever hold the memories from that night especially my favorite part, the father-daughter dance.

MOMENT: I spent the summer of 2011 in Spain; in that short period of time I went through a lot and had many conflicts. Being away from my mom made it much more difficult because I tend to rely on her to help me through tough times and I felt as though I had to get through it all on my own. I could not even fully tell her of all that was going on at the time because she was so far away and I did not want to worry or upset her.
SONG: “Summertime Sadness” by Lana Del Rey. Summer is a time of no worries and should be filled with fun and good times, but as the song says, I had “summertime sadness”. I was very upset and all I looked forward to was being back home.

  35. MOMENT: November through March of sophomore year. By far, the best point of my life and my favorite year in high school. Everything at that point in time seemed perfect. My friendships, my relationship, my bond with my family, my academic grades, new experiences, literally everything was just too good to be true.
SONG: “Memories” by David Guetta ft. Kid Cudi. This song speaks of doing crazy things and them just being good memories. I recovered from a lot of things that I had dealt with prior to those few months and everything was going great for me; those will definitely be “the best memories for me”.

MOMENT: Being lied to and deceived by one of the people I most trusted.
SONG: “Mientes” by Camila. This song describes the pain that comes along with being betrayed by someone special who you trust the most and how once they want to take it back it, is already too late. It describes my emotions perfectly because I believe that the most important thing is loyalty, and once that trust is broken, it is hard to replace and build back. It is hard to move on past that and be like before.

MOMENT: Playing powder puff football during junior year.
SONG: “Here comes the boom” by Nelly. I never played a sport in my life so it was a new experience for me to be in a sort of team and go out on a field while many people are watching. Although the senior class beat us, it was an overall very fun experience and I got closer with some of my friends because of it. I am looking forward to play again this year.

MOMENT: Just recently my boyfriend and I celebrated our two and a half year anniversary.
SONG: “Nadie Como Tu” by La Oreja de Van Gogh. This song describes how there is nobody like him because of how he is with me and I can relate to it for all the same reasons. No one can make me laugh as much as he can, no one knows as much about me as he does, no one can make me feel better or comfort me like he can, and no one understands me like he does. I am so glad to have met him and still have him in my life after so long.

MOMENT: Watching the Lion King on the VCR when I was little and watching it now with my boyfriend which also happens to be his favorite movie.
SONG: “Hakuna Matata” – The Lion King. The motto “Hakuna Matata” means “no worries for the rest of your days”. It basically says to enjoy life and to not let little things get to you. It’s best to live carefree and without worries to fully enjoy life. No matter how many times we watch the movie or hear the song, I will never get tired of it.

    1. An excellent selection of moments paired with songs, both positive memories and negative ones (I'm glad you found your flashdrive and were able to recover some of your work). The first moment sounds amazing - Spain is toward the top of my list of places to visit. And "The Lion King" is still one of my favorites, as is "Hamlet," the play it was based on.
