Dialogue

Write a dialogue between two or more people during a conversation when they do not think they are being observed. You can pretend to overhear their actual words, or alternately, fill in words that you interpret them saying based on gestures, facial expressions, and body language. Imagine, perhaps, adults when they do not think the children can hear, or the "nice" kids being mean when not watched. Be creative - you may write you assignment in script form, but be sure to include the descriptions of movement and expression.

Minimum of 500 words. Due tomorrow at the end of class.

  1. I don’t speak much; I don’t usually say anything unless I absolutely have to. I wish more people were like that. Some people speak just to hear the sound of their own voices and their words aren’t always intelligent. Sometimes I’ll listen to other people’s conversations just to get a laugh. But there was this one time when I wished I hasn’t heard any of it.

Bethany was sitting on her usual spot in the cafeteria, the center of the whole room. She sat at the center table with her posse as to be the center of attention. I had never been a huge fan of her group; there was just something off about them. Just about everyone else loved them and loved to give them attention. My friends thought they were all perfectly nice, but from my listening skills, I knew better. As soon as one girl got up, the rest scooted close together and whispered feverishly. I was close enough to hear just about everything.
Bethany would cup her hands around her mouth and whisper to the closest person, “She’s so dumb, I can’t believe I can tolerate her!”
Other girls would say other things, but it was like a wild fire started by Bethany’s words. Other days I would catch Bethany look a girl up and down with a look of disgust in her eyes. Her posse would catch on and do the same, completely forgetting their own opinions. If Bethany complimented someone, it was only so she could laugh at the look on their face after they had walked away.

  2. Back to the point, it was a usual day and Bethany was in her usual spot, doing her usual thing. There was a new member to her posse, and this girl had only joined a few days ago. She was shy, smart, timid and very pretty. She was curvy and had long brown curls. Her name was Cindy and we were best friends up until a few days ago. It was a stupid fight about how nice Bethany was and there was no winner. I guess she ran to Bethany to pick up the pieces. I was eating my lunch, which was some kind of mystery meat, with the few remaining friends that I had. (All the others had fallen to Bethany’s side.) I heard Bethany complain about still being hungry, and turned around to see Cindy running to the vending machine for chips. That’s when I heard what I never wanted to.
“She’s such an ugly freak. Why did you let her start sitting with us?” one of her minion, Stacy I think, asked with disgust oozing through her words. Bethany scoffed and flipped her hair over her shoulder. Reaching into Cindy’s bag she said, matter-of-factly, “She gets good grades. If she sits with us, we get good grades. It’s very simple.” Another minion of hers, sounded angry, “I get good enough grades for all of us. Send that thing back across the cafeteria, please.” Bethany just shook her head and starting copying something out of Cindy’s notebook. When Cindy got back, they all hugged her and thanked her for the chips. Cindy looked down at her notebook and the Bethany’s notebook and just looked away. Bethany gave her girls an ‘I-told-you-so’ look and the chatter changed. I went back to eating; trying to rid myself of the guilt I had for some strange reason.
I didn’t want her to get back up again, so I would peer over my shoulder occasionally. I caught Bethany tell her, “I love your sweater, where did you get it?” I knew the answer before, she even answered. Her grandmother had spent her last moments to finish knitting a sweater for Cindy. It just so happened to be the sweater that Cindy was wearing today. Unfortunately, she got up after that to throw away her trash. Bethany’s posse exploded into laughter that echoed throughout the room. Bethany could barely talk between the laughter, “Her grandmother knitted it? Her dead grandmother…that’s gross!” Cindy could walk a lot faster than they thought, because she was back in a minute and no clue what they were laughing about. I wish I could tell her, but I can’t do that to her spirit. So now, I guess I am Bethany’s secret keeper; that makes me just as bad as she is.

  3. “You have to be kidding me.” Rebecca said.
Her face was faced my direction and she had this mad look in her eyes. I glanced away from her since I was afraid that she would notice that I was paying attention to her conversation. I panicked and looked at her body. Her hands were in a fist and I swear I could see steam come out of her ears. She finally put her head down and I could swear that I saw a tear come out of her eye.
“I’m sorry Rebecca.” Ana told her.
“How could you do this to me? I thought we were best friends!” Rebecca told her.
“We are. I consider you a best friend but I don’t know how you feel.” Ana responded.
Ana took a deep breath and stepped back. Her hand slowly went to her face and she began to biter her nails. This was a sign that Ana was very nervous. Her other hand was on her leg being tapped back and forth. She was taking slow deep breaths for her back would move in very slow but heavy patterns.
“No I meant what I said we were. You two faced lying son of a……Rebecca calm yourself down.” Rebecca screamed.
“What is wrong with you? I know I did nothing and so far you aren’t telling me what I did. Tell me please what the problem is?” Ana screamed.
“The whole school knows about it.” Rebecca whispered.
I moved closer for Ana had gotten closer to Rebecca. Rebecca eyes were tight shut afraid of what was going to happen next. Rebecca took a deep breath and grabbed onto her jeans. Her body quickly got firm.
“Mark cheated. And you know with whom! Now you have to tell me!” I believe Rebecca said.
Suddenly Rebecca pushed her back and I quickly heard a gasp come out of Ana’s mouth. It was hard to believe that these friends were fighting. Ana things had fallen on the ground and she was quickly picking them up for herself. Ana quickly stood back and her body slowly quivering back and forth.
“Rebecca calm yourself. You are going crazy for a guy that said that he doesn’t like you the way you like him. I’m sorry but get over him. You need to forget about him. He isn’t truthful.” Ana told Rebecca while holding onto her shoulders.
Rebecca slowly fell to the ground. She covered her face with her hands and Ana covered her by giving her a hug. Ana began to rub her hands against Rebecca’s sweater. Rebecca filled her face up filled with tears covering everywhere.
“I’m sorry Rebecca. I love you and I know this hurts you but it’s the truth. I said this because I love you and I want the best for you. Please trust me I would have never said this to hurt you.” Ana commented.
“I know you are Ana. It’s hard for me to get over. I know that I have to but I loved him.” Rebecca whimpered.
“I understand but you have to get over him…..um Rebecca it’s time to get to class so please let’s go.” Ana told her.
“You go I’ll catch up to you really quickly.” Ana whispered.
    “Okay no problem.” Rebecca said.
“See you in class.” Ana told her.
“She is such a good friend.” Rebecca told herself.
“She is such a loser. I’m so happy Mark and I are together. He deserves me not her. What a loser.” Ana told herself while walking away.

  4. I saw exactly what I was told I would see. “She is always all over him and he, he does not even make her back off,” Christie told me. She was describing to me how Aaron and Lizzy were always together. I met Aaron way before I met Christie and when I met her we never knew we knew the same person. Once people started finding out about Aaron and I talking, Christie rushed to me as soon as she could to warn me about him.
“Are you sure he does not have a girlfriend?” she questioned me.
“I’m positive girl. Him and I have become really close, he told me about his best friend being a girl, but I think you’re exaggerating!” I replied completely sure about what I was talking about.
“I never really gave them much attention. Her name must be Lizzy. They must be more than friends though.” Rolling her eyes at her theory she continued, “Just yesterday morning they ran to each other and hugging him tightly she said ‘so, so proud of you!’”
I started to feel a bit uneasy; the way she told her story was extremely convincing.
“Well that’s odd. I don’t really care though; we’re not dating yet so yeah.”
“Well if I were you, I’d watch out. I overheard them talking in homeroom; they should be meeting at four today, at Washington Park…” drawing imaginary quotation marks with her fingers she said, “To practice something.”
The night before yesterday, Aaron and I had kissed. Everything felt so special, and even though he wasn’t even my boyfriend, I felt a sense of jealousy overtaking me. I wanted to go to the park so bad! I would never admit that to Christie though, she is known to be a big mouth.
I casually replied with a “Oh, that’s cool.” She got the vibe that I was done with the conversation so she hugged me and left.
I killed some time by doing homework and cleaning my room. Before I knew it, it was already five. I had nothing to do and considering my mind was invaded with thoughts of Aaron and this girl I had yet to know, kissing and flirting—I could not resist but go to the park and see it with my very own eyes. I saw them. Lizzy was a pretty girl with rather short hair and she her cheeks were flushed. It must have been due to the cold but at the moment I automatically thought it was because she was being flattered.

    1. Aaron held her two hands, looked into her eyes, and said to her, “Will you go on a date with me to the movie theatres or something?”
Lizzy pulled her hands away and jumping up and down, “yes! Yes! That question deserves a yes!” she exclaimed.
Aaron covered his face, as if relieved or something and Lizzy started poking his ribs. As for me, I had seen enough. I felt devastated and I just left.

Aaron is knocking on my door right now, we had arranged to see each other today…before everything I saw yesterday evening. I open the door and there he is, his beautiful smile brighter than ever and eyes as nice as could be but I hate him.
“Are you ready?” He asks me.
      “For what?” I blandly respond.
“I came to ask you something. Remember?”
      “Oh. What’s up?”
“Will you go on a date with me to the movie theatres or something?” He is smiling, and his cheeks are turning redder.
I’m probably blushing but not with awe, and definitely not because I’m flattered. I hate him. This is exactly what he asked Lizzy yesterday.
      “No! Take Lizzy out!”
“What?” He questions me. His face looks so confused.
“I saw it all. You held her hands, asked her out just like you asked me. She jumped up and down and said your question deserved a yes. Do you think I’m stupid or something?” I explain.
He is smiling and rolling his eyes he tells me, “Lizzy is my best friend. She’s proud of me for making a move and kissing you…it was a big deal for me.” He looks down and continues, “We decided to practice how I was going to ask you out on a date…I was nervous. We arranged to practice at the park cause I had nothing to do but think about how to ask you out without making it obvious that I was nervous.”
I feel so dumb for getting hypnotized by Christie’s words, for thinking the worst of Aaron, and for my stupid assumption. I don’t even know what to say; can I just disappear right now—I’m embarrassed.

When just a fancy to my eye She tied Her hands like rope
Around my heart, entwined with such beauty and wit,
Till love was all I desired of Her, leaving me only to hope
In vain that it would hold true. To flirt I had not the grit
To simply ask the time of day, yet She did not hesitate in charm,
As in compliments did She spend, hoping that I would understand,
But all I proved was to be dense, although I meant no harm.
Yet harmful it was to myself, with each action spent to stand
Still; never did I advance to engage in such a romance.
I am sure Savannah waited long, never realizing the same
Feelings did we share, too timid I failed to find the entrance
To Her heart, always wanting but never taking such aim
In securing Her as mine. And, truly, such do I regret,
Ever wishing to make my move upon first light,
Concerned with how to ask, always in a fret,
But by the law of love such was my right.
Once with the use of music did I attempt
In conveying such a simple, romantic emotion,
Yet words of other’s they were and exempt
Was such feelings of mine, however much each notion
Could relate to that of mine. And in the future I dwell,
Ever in wonder if sooner did I produce such a poem!
Then would things be different? And would She be well
To claim me as Her own, Savannah nourished at the stem
Of my ever growing love. And what a night it was!
Upon that day by which we met by chance,
Just a lad entering a new job, such as I was,
Never realizing to crucially conjure that romance,
In which another would come to claim
Her as his own, with no such knowledge of myself,
Nor was it easy to bring my love to a halt, to tame
That which strove to break free. But in Herself
Did She find love with another, and my heart lay broken
With sorrow of such a truth. And alone left to rove
Did I still love Her as my lovely token
Of a forgotten romance, yet hoping never to loath,
I carried on to remain in love with such a wonder
That was so titled Savannah, and like so I continued to call
With news of a plan as friends, but to my blunder
Did She decline. Such a fool was I to offer my all
To a woman taken by another unknown.
And my only want is to love such a beautiful image
That already in my life holds great renown,
With my strong want to lay many a kiss upon Her visage.
A factor to take into account, such be Her age,
Still young yet older than myself; just a boy, a fool
Longing for a love to last, but still I am no sage,
And neither in my kin’s shed am I the sharpest tool,
For I do not heed the sonnets; set to follow my heart.
But only a foolish boy may She see me, not a man
Willing to love such a work of collaborative art
Between that of nature and the unseen, an
Absolute masterpiece; the greatest of all to count!

  8. It was late at night, I knew I should already be asleep but my night light kept flickering on and off and it kept me distracted. I was too tired to go to my parent’s room to help me get back to sleep so I just lay in bed hoping to quickly doze off. I was becoming frustrated because I couldn’t fall asleep but I knew it was too late to go get my mom, soon it would be my 12th birthday, I had to begin to act like a preteen. It felt like an eternity passed and I resolved going once more to my mom wouldn’t be so bad. I climbed out of bed and opened my door, I could see that the stairs at the end of the hallway were lit up. Maybe mom was out of bed, getting a drink of water like I had seen her do before. I walked silently down the stairs, not wanting to wake daddy up. When I reached the stairs, I heard rumbling coming from the living room downstairs. I crept down, and peeked through the railing. I saw my daddy with covers near the couch. This was strange, daddy was never up late at night. I watched as he set out his covers, turned off the lights and laid on the couch. I didn’t understand why daddy was going to sleep in the living room. Slowly, I went back through the hallway and into mom’s room. Her lamp by her bed was still on but she was fast asleep. I knew something was strange but I didn’t want to be a bother, so I went back to my room by myself. Eventually, I finally fell asleep and dreamt of fast race cars speeding away on a track.
In the morning, my mom didn’t come in to wake me up early so I figured it was Saturday. I figured that it wasn’t late yet because by 9:30a.m. we always shared a family breakfast together. I got out of bed as I felt my stomach growling. A loud crash frightened me on my way to the kitchen. I stopped and listened.
“What’s wrong with you?” I heard a deep harsh voice exclaim.
“Listen, Henry! We are not going to continue arguing anymore, I can’t take it!” my mom’s trembling voice replied. I had never heard mom call daddy by his first name.
“Carla, every little thing is a problem with you. And then you go and try to blame everything on me.”
“You act like it’s not your fault. You can’t be understanding, that’s what I hate.”
“It’s the same conversation every single time. You keep going and going. Always pointing fingers but never criticizing yourself! Don’t expect me to fix things this time Carla, I’m done!” The back door slammed and a few minutes later I heard a car quickly drive away.
Mom’s sobbing could be heard throughout the house but when I went to her she made pretend nothing was wrong. When I asked her where daddy was she said that he had an appointment to go to. She was a bad liar, beginning with the fact that daddy had never scheduled meetings during family time. Mom’s melancholic feeling was felt during the full day. I didn’t know what to do about it, I didn’t know how to help. She tried acting like everything was perfectly fine, not knowing that I had seen how they slept last night and heard their terrifying argument this morning.

  9. My boyfriend Trey songz is in the other room talking on the phone with his brother. My nosey side wants to why because they aren’t very close. I can hear him talking but can’t make out what he is saying. I walk closer to the bathroom door and put my ear to it so I can listen. Luckily he put the phone on speaker.
Trey songz says to his brother “I don’t know. I just really like her.” My first thought was that he better be talking about me. He continued and said “Melissa makes me happy. I’ve decided to take it to the next level with her.
I immediately got butterflies in my stomach. What was he talking about? What level is he thinking in his head?
His brother responded “yeah you seem very happy with her. What do you want to do?”
Trey songz didn’t speak for a while and I waited. I was so anxious to hear what he was going to say.
He says “I want to ask her to marry me. There is just something about her and I know I can’t lose her.”
I wanted to run in there and just say yes and hug him but I’m not supposed to be listening right now.
“I like her too. You should ask her. That would be very nice” said his brother.
“Yeah I’m going to and I’m going to buy her an island and a private jet “Trey commented back.
The smile on my face would not go away.
“Maybe we can go on our honey moon to whatever tropical island she likes” he added.
Her brother said “she would probably like the Dominican Republic or Bora Bora.”
“Whatever she wants is what I’m going to do. I want to spoil her and buy her everything. I’m going to buy her a very expensive ring and surprise her. When I ask her to marry me, I want it to be very unique.”
While I listened, I was getting nervous that he would open the door. I know he wouldn’t want me to know and if he walked out while my ear was against the door it would be awkward.
His brother said “you have to make her very happy and buy her everything.”
Trey said “I know Melissa’s a princess and she deserves the world”.
I could feel myself blushing. How am I going to hide the fact that I know he is going to propose to me. This is a really big deal. Trey songz and I have been together for a very long time and it is about time that he asks.
“ I have to go though, I don’t want her to start thinking anything is up” trey said.
I knew I had to go back to the couch before he opened the bathroom door. I ran down the hall and turned the corner to the living room. As soon as I jump onto the couch, he enters the room.
“hi baby” he said as he gave me a kiss.
I smiled at him and turned the TV on .

  10. September 11th, 2001, was a day that could have changed my life and my family forever, but did not. On this date, I was about four or five years of age. My sister was not much older than I, and my brother was not yet a thought. As we all know, we were attacked on this day by terrorists, and they attacked our World Trade Center in New York City.
It was around 9 am, and I was attending pre-school at Footprints right here in Dunellen. At the time, my father was part of a company that needed him to go hold a business meeting in one of the Twin Towers at the time of the attack. However, he was not there. He was in Florida with a friend of his getting ready to participate in a triathlon. Since my father was the one holding the meeting, the company decided to cancel the entire meeting as a whole and would come back later in the week for the presentation. There were about 20 people whose lives were spared all because my Dad could not make the meeting. If my Dad had made the decision to go to this meeting, I would be living without one today. Similar to the other children who were not as fortunate or lucky, so to speak, as I.

There are not many people that I tell this story to due to the fact I cannot think about what my life would be like if my Dad had made a different choice. I also do not like to bring this up because other people lost a parent or uncle, or grandparent, or even a friend. So I am always grateful for that and never take it for granted, because I know that just as easily as my father decided to go to Florida, he could have just as easily said no, and attended that meeting. That is another reason why, like my father, I cannot talk about it in class or with other people when September 11th, rolls around each year. People do not always understand how I feel about a situation like this. People often do not know my whole story either. When I say “my whole story,” I mean on a personal level. There is one major detail that I usually leave out when I tell someone about myself, mainly because it is not necessary that other people know this. However, with this topic, I find it necessary for people to know the rest of my story. When I was very little, just born probably, my father was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. It is a neurological disorder and causes you to not be able to function properly. Then, when I was about 9-10 years old, my Dad was diagnosed with Non- Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer. It is a type of cancer that is in the lymphoid in your body. Now, of course I was not aware of my Dad’s condition, but when I found out, and heard all of the stories, it really affected me emotionally. Although God let me father live through one tragedy, does not mean he will not put him through another. I could never understand why bad things happen to such good people. I never was able to comprehend that someone who is always looking to help people and is never worried about himself could be put through such a harsh life. Then I finally understood what it was all about. I realized that God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers.

  11. For the Academy having been invaded, it was still in decent shape. The ceiling had collapsed in a few places, some of the rubble had crushed parts of the center table and some of the Councilors chairs, but other than that the room was in fairly decent shape. Luckily the center of the table with the school’s symbol was intact. He conjured the ooze from his hand once more and sent it out, covering the symbol with a solid black circle. From it rose the Black Tome on its stand, containing all of the knowledge a student of Darkness could ever want to know.
He couldn’t resist. Usually only the Supremes and Council members were allowed to read the Tomes. He opened the book to the table of contents and was baffled by the amount of sections there were. The Books obviously hadn’t been edited since Hexxus wrote it, as the Supremes had banned a lot of magic that this book still contained, including the fact that Conjuration and Essence Magic were still lumped into Necromancy. Necromancy contained enough things to have its own building dedicated to it. Necromancy dealt with Conjuring demons and the undead, draining life and energy, and countless other things. The public had known too much about Necromancy and had labeled it as evil, so they dissolved it as a specialty and made its components classes of their own. To be completely honest, a Necromancer is one of the most terrifying things one could encounter.
He closed the book and put it in his satchel. If he was in the mood he’d read some later, maybe he could learn a few tricks on Void Magic, which was his specialty. Making himself more powerful wasn’t important right now. He had to get as many of the Tomes as he could before…well, before someone else got the idea. He found a hole in the Council room wall and squeezed his way through, moving on to the next building. He recalled the schools being in an arc around the center building, where the Supremes stayed and where most of the common things were held, like assemblies and meals. To the right of the main building was the School of Shadow Magic, where he was now. Next to that was the School of Alteration, then the School of Elementary Magic directly behind the main building, then the School of Manipulation Magic, and to the left of the main building was the School of Celestial Magic.
He got to the Alteration building with no problem. The magic had worn out and had actually damaged the original stone the building was made of (Alteration magic was surprisingly unstable), and so the building wasn’t much more than a pile of rubble. He sighed with disappointment. No Blue Tome today, he wouldn’t be able to find the seal by himself. Looking past the School of Alteration, the Elemental building was in decent shape. Maybe the Quadra Tome was still there.
On his way there, a question popped into his head. Could he even access it? He knew that Void magic would open the Black Tome, but would magic from a different school open its tome?

  12. Wanting to hold back but I just can’t anymore. How do you finally grow the confidence to approach the one you love about ending things? I don’t even understand how I could even remotely end things when I care so much. It’s something that has to be done, so it will be.
“Don’t lie to me, Joe. I won’t get mad; I just want to know the truth. I’m tired of the lies.”
“There are no hidden lies here. I have told you everything; I’m not hiding a single thing. Don’t let these people get to you. You know me Anna; I wouldn’t do something like this to you.”
“I know, and I want to believe you, it’s just so hard to. I’ve been in this position before and I made the mistake of believing him. I refuse to be in another relationship where I look stupid for being there and where we lack trust.”
“Lack trust? Are you saying that there is no trust? This is really how you’re going to act over a ridiculous lie that what made by conniving girls.” He turned away.
I forcefully push him back my direction. “Don’t look away from me Joe. We aren’t going to push this one off like we do with the rest of our problems. We are going to talk about this now and we aren’t going to stop until final conclusions and decisions are formed.”
“No! This is ridiculous. I can’t believe that you are actually accusing me of this. Why on earth would I do this to you? Remember I’m the different one, do you remember saying that? I am different and you know it. I’m not like all the other heartless people you have been with.”
“I know you are, it’s just hard Joe. Please understand where I’m coming from.”
As much as I want to believe him, I just can’t. I look at him in attempt to read him but I can’t. He’s a blank canvas. However there is just something in his eyes that shows the guilt.
“Joe, I’m sorry but I just can’t keep this going. I know the truth. I have known you long enough to where I can tell that you are lying. You can stop acting all defensive, just tell me one thing. Who is she?
He just stood there. I could tell that he was trying to decide whether or not if he should give it up or keep it all in. His shoulders started to shrug and at that moment I was absolutely positive that it was all true. I just couldn’t believe it. I broke down. The tears that I’ve been holding back since the first word I let out have finally managed to come pouring out.
    “Anna…I’m sorry…I…I…I’m just sorry…”
“Stop. I don’t want to hear the sorry’s. Just tell me who she was.”
“She was no one. She doesn’t exist.”
“Joe! Stop lying just tell me. I understand you don’t want to throw her under the bus but come one, you owe it to be to at least tell me who she was.”
    “Babe…Just…”
Once he said that it just made me feel at home again. I wanted to just run back into his arms. But I had to be strong. I knew that if I did that it would be the wrong decision. I had to keep my distance.
“Don’t call me that. We are no longer dating. Just tell me who.”
“Just hear me out. I know that cheating is wrong and nothing can justify it. But Anna it was just so hard for me to come out and tell you. I truly wanted to but I just didn’t believe it myself. There was no she. It…was…a… he. I hope that you see why it was so hard to tell you…”

    1. I took a deep breath in and just closed my eyes. I couldn’t figure out if I was more taken back that I was cheated on with a guy and my boyfriend was gay or the fact that Joe was here crying in my arms. I truly felt bad for him. I just didn’t know what to say to make light of the situation.
“Joe, don’t cry. It will be alright. Just come out Joe. I know that it will be hard but just come out. In the long run it will feel so much better. Just know that if you need anything I am here for you.”
As much as I wanted to be mad at him I just couldn’t. He was in a rough place and my heart was too big to leave him crying alone. All of a sudden I heard footsteps. And then I saw him. Joe’s football buddies running back. At that moment Joe just wanted to die. I felt terrible. I just want to cry there with him. I just sat there wondering what he was going to do next. But I couldn’t think that far, I just sat there, hold Joe while trying to calm him down.

  13. Je-su-u-u-us! Oo-oo-oo-o-o-o-o-o He’s coming! Wowwww.
(Jesus enters from the back of the studio, running up the middle with his hands brushing those of the desperate fans as he makes his way to the stage. He is donning a shiny gold tunic and a matching pair of gladiator sandals. Radiating energy and grinning intensely, he jogs up the steps and turns to face his audience. )
Jesus: Hello mankind! How are you feeling tonight? (The crowd cheers loudly, whistling and hollering.) MONOLOGUE:

This is Conversations with Jesus and I am your host, Jesus Christ! I hope you’re ready because we have a great show for you tonight! We’ll be right back after the break! (Another uproar surges from the audience and the commercials roll as Jesus goes to shake hands with the audience members seated in the front row.)
Jesus: And we’re back! Now tonight we have a very special guest. Please welcome… The Most Interesting Man in the World! (Interesting Man enters from the right in a dapper gray suit. He is dressed to the nines and he waves to the crowd as he walks over to the couch across from Jesus. All the while, energetic techno music serenades the audience. Interesting Man gives Jesus a hug and Jesus whispers something to him. The two men laugh; and Jesus goes to sit down on his couch while Interesting Man unbuttons his suit jacket and takes a seat opposite him. The music stops.) Welcome, man. You look great! Is that………..[still working on this]
Jesus: Alright, let’s bow our heads and pray... (The crowd is silent.) Dear God, please let Mike and Ike resolve their issues and may the Kardashians still keep up even though Kris and Bruce didn’t make it. And can Mom stop cutting the crusts on my sandwiches because I’m a freaking man and I need nutrition in my diet! (He composes himself and picks up his head.) Amen! (All of the audience members pick up the glasses of wine at their sides and throw them back in unison.)
    Audience: Amen!
Jesus: And now for our segment: “Who wore it better—Harmon (the colorblind hermit) or Lady Gaga.” (Jesus is handed sparklers from his assistant, Joseph, and he waves them around.) Let the games begin! (The curtain is opened and Harmon and Lady Gaga strut down the runway in……..

  14. The intern meekly walked through the hallways of the looming Syndicate base, clutching his clipboard and trying to keep his head down. The building was dark, and from the inside, looked as if it were underground: there were few windows, and what few there were almost always had their blinds drawn. Dim green light uniformly filled the rooms and hallways, and people with neat uniforms and hats whose visors covered their eyes walked throughout silently until they reached their destination. The doors and their seals made it difficult to hear anything that was going on inside the rooms, and speaking outside them was prohibited. Every now and then, a door would be left ajar and the conversations would seep out into the silent hallways like molasses, waiting for someone to slip on them.
The intern reached his destination, but realized the door was close. That meant someone was in there talking to the leader, who had sent him on an errand to pick up a document from a representative in the countryside earlier that week. He sat on the bench outside the office, and realized that the door was cracked open, and because the walls were entirely soundproof, the stern and solemn wanderers still craved the knowledge of what exactly went on behind them; the intern was no exception. He crouched next to the doorway and tried to keep his gaze down to divert suspicion. He began listening.
“So what do you propose we do?” The first voice asked.
“I—I really don’t know,” the second voice replied. “I’m at almost a total loss.”
“Almost?” The first one began. “Is there something you’ve thought of before?”
“Well, I was thinking that it could do us some good to—Never mind.”
“Never mind? What do you mean, ‘never mind’? We are on the verge of civil war and you just throw away an idea?!” The first voice was getting heated.
“I was thinking that we could expose ourselves to the public. Well, not ‘expose’ per se, but just let the people know what we do. They can’t not know forever.” By the second voice’s tone, it was easy to tell that this was a last resort.
The reporter pondered for a moment. What have I gotten myself into here? Come to think of it, not even I know what goes on in this building.
There was a pause. “Yeah. Now I know why you’d want to scrap that idea.” Another pause. “What about that report coming in from the countryside? Maybe that will bring some reassurance.”
“What could it possibly have that can make this better?” The second voice exclaimed with agitation. Maybe he’s lost hope.
“Listen to me,” the first voice quickly followed. The tables have turned. “Maybe the population has grown more stable. It contained a survey, right?”
There was silence, but it’s safe to assume the other person nodded.
“Then there’s the information we need! There’s been an upward trend in agricultural growth, hasn’t there? That’s what we needed! We can send out insurgents to the countryside and they can restore balance like they always do.”
“What if they don’t—I don’t know. I just don’t want to leave too much to chance like that.”
“Listen, just review the report and when you’re ready, call me back in to discuss it. We’ll figure it out then.”

    “When will it happen?”
    “Tomorrow.”
“Why is this going to happen?”
    “You know why.”
    “I don’t.”
    “But I think you do.”
“I really don’t know. And who is going to complete the task?”
    “You know who.”
    “I don’t! I really don’t. I need to know! I need to protect myself.”
“How could you possibly protect yourself from this fate?”
“I don’t know. But I won’t be able to handle it at all without knowing who or why. You
    need to tell me, Devil”
“I don’t need to tell you anything! I OWN YOU. I have already told you too much. You
know everything you need to know. It is time for me to leave.”
“NO! Wait! Please, I beg of you! Please don’t leave me! I need to know! I know I have
made many mistakes. I am not perfect but I CAN make up for my wrongdoings. I don’t deserve to die this way”
“You’re wrong. You are so wrong you don’t even know how wrong you actually are!
You are doomed! You are dying tomorrow in the worst possible way I have ever created!”
“No. you can’t! You can’t do this to me! I want to live! All that I have worked for! What
will happen to my business? My family? Who will take care of them? Elizabeth is ill and I need to take care of her! I need to be the one to pay the bills. Jane needs to take care of the baby. My oldest son is only fourteen. He cannot run the business on his own, the family. What about college? How will he go and take care of my wife and daughters. How will they survive if I am gone?”
“Not my problem. That is your problem. You have twenty four hours to figure that out.”
“Please tell me who! I need to know. I can’t go into this blind!”
“You KNOW who. There is only one person it could possibly be. Who was cheated out
of the business? who is the one person that could possibly complete the task? There is only one significant person in your life that it could possibly be.”
“No. I don’t believe you. He wouldn’t do that. He wouldn’t want me dead. He would never put me through so much pain, if your information is correct…”
“My information is correct. And if you question me again I will leave immediately.”
“It can’t be him. I don’t believe you.”
    “You will regret this mistake.”
    “Where did you go?”
    “Nowhere. And everywhere.”
“Where are you? What do you mean? You’ve disappeared!”
“Yeah it is a trick I picked up.”
    “Just beware, of your sasination.”

    “He’s so cute”
“I know. He always dresses so nice.”
“I know. And his hair, it’s so nice.”
    “I know.”
    Both start giggling.
He walks past, and they both look and smile. He smiles back and continues walking.
“He smiled back.” They both looked at each other and said blushing.
    “He’s so sweet.”
    "I know."
Another girl walks by giving a dirty stare.
    "Was she looking at us."
    "I think so"
    "She better have a reason."
"Maybe she herd us talking about him, and maybe she likes him."
"How does she know we were talking about him."
"She probably was listening to our conversation"
"Well she better not like him because he's going to be mine"
"And who said you would be?'
"I did, I just know hr likes me."
    "Okay." said with an attitude
    "What?"
    "Nothing"
    "Seriously why the attitude?"
    "Nothing "
    "No its something"
    "Nope."
    "Um yes there is."
    "Fine there is."
    "Then what is it."
    "I don't want to tell."
"Just say it. I'm your friend"
"Okay so you know how you said he is yours?"
    "Yeah, what about it"
    "Well."
    "Well what?"
"Well I have been talking to him."
"So there is nothing wrong with that."
    "Yeah but?"
    "But what?"
    "He likes me"
    "What?" with a sad face.
    "I'm sorry. He told me."
    "Whatever."
    She walks away.
She throws her arms in the air.
Two other girls in the hallway.
"She must be thinking, Not my fault"
    Both start to laugh.
    She slams her lock.
"She's probably thinking, Well that didn't go as plan."
The girl goes up to her friend, places hand on shoulder.
The two girls watching interpret the conversation because they can't hear.
    "I'm sorry."
    "Move your hand"
'Hey I'm telling you I'm sorry."
    "What's your problem."
    "You"
"Well I'm not your problem anymore."
Both girls start laughing as she walks towards then.
    "What you laughing at?"
    "Nothing"
    Turning away.
    "Whats everyone's problem today."
    He walks up.
    "Hey"
    "Oh hi"
    "Everything okay?"
    "Yes"
    "Are you sure?"
    "I don't know"
    "What's wrong?"
    "You don't want to know."
    "Okay."
The two girls at at their lockers a couple down from them.
She leads up against the locker as she talks to him. The two girls a couple lockers down start to interpret their conversation.
    "Your so cute."
    "Thanks, so are you."
    "Your'e so sweet."
    "Awe" starts to giggle.
    "I love you."
    "I love you to."
    They both start to laugh."
"Are we mean for doing this?"
    "No."
    "Your'e right. This is funny."
    "Yes it is."
She looks over and see the girls laughing again. She walks over.
"Are you listening to my conversation."
    "No. Why?"
"Well we are the only ones in this hallway and your'e laughing."
    "So"
    "Just making sure."
"Actually we were making up your conversation."
    "Oh really."
    "Yeah."
    "Well stop."
    "But it's to funny."
    "Just move on."
    "Fine"
She slams the locker shut as they both push there way between them.
    "Whats their problem?"
"I don't know, but I do know today has been horrible."

  17. “Wow. Just look at her.” Taylor sneered as she looked Zoe up and down with disgust.
The other girls laughed and chimed in saying things like, “Ew look at her hair.” or “She probably gets her clothes from the garbage.” They all looked at me expecting me to join in too, but I just shrugged and looked away. I was tired of the constant discuss of others. What happened to all us of talking about random stuff? What happened to not caring about everyone around us? It made me sick, how they would degrade others and lie to people’s faces. I sighed and looked at Zoe. She was actually very pretty. She had blonde spiky hair and crystal blue eyes. Maybe she didn’t dress “normally” but it worked for her. I wouldn’t have the guts to wear something outside the norm even if it looked good on me. Zoe was walking toward us to buy a snack so I called her over.
“Hey Zoe! Do wanna sit down with us for a second?” I asked smiling at her.
“Maya! What are you doing?!?” Taylor hissed in my ear.
I ignored her and moved over so Zoe could sit. She looked skeptical and nervous, I didn’t blame her.
“Heey...” Zoe said awkwardly. Taylor crossed her arms and glared at Zoe.
“So Zoe, you’re new right?” I asked her. The other girls acted like she wasn’t even there and kept talking about whatever, except for Taylor.
“Um yeah. I just moved here last week.” she said. She played with sleeve of her shirt, looking nervously at Taylor.
“Oh where did you live before?”
“I used to live in California, San Diego.” she grinned at my surprised expression and continued, “Yeah, it was nice.”
“Woah you’re a Cali girl!” I laughed. “What did like to do over there?” I asked.
“I don’t know, anything you guys would do.” she said, shrugging her shoulders.
“Well, you should sit with us at lunch tomorrow and maybe we can hang out sometime.” I suggested.
“Yeah sure, definitely.” Zoe said beaming. She got up and walked away. As soon as she left Taylor turned to me, emitting anger.
“What the hell was that Maya?!?” she asked.
“What’s the problem? I think she’s nice.” I replied nonchalantly.
“We can’t have that freak sitting with us. Did you even look at her?” Taylor nearly yelled.
“Taylor relax, people are starting to look. And Zoe isn’t a freak.”
“Yeah people are starting to look because you let her sit here.” she snapped.
“Wow Taylor. Do you even hear yourself?!? You sound ridiculous. Maybe you don’t want her sitting here because you're jealous.” I said.
“Yeah I’m soooo jealous of her. I mean who couldn’t be jealous of her.” she snickered.
“Taylor! Can you just stop?!? I’m so done! I’m done with everything about you! Do ever listen to the words that come out of your mouth?!?” I yelled at her.
Now everyone was looking, but I didn’t care. I had enough with her.
“What happened to you? People are supposed to change for the better, you changed for the worse. Why do you feel the need to put people down?”
Taylor was silent, it looked like I had finally gotten through to her. But then she looked up at me and laughed.
“Maya, Maya, Maya. If you don’t like me and if you’ve had enough with me, why don’t you go sit with Zoe? You guys are a perfect fit.” she said, grinning. I wanted to scream and punch a wall. She didn’t listen to anything I said and if she did then she didn’t care.
“You know what Taylor? That’s a great idea. Someday you’re not going to have anyone left, if you keep doing this.” I said. I threw my books in my bag and stormed out the cafeteria. Part of me felt sad;I had a lot of great times with Taylor before she turned into a jerk. But the greater part of me felt relieved and free.

  18. After all the studying, internship programs, workshops, and hours of hard work I was finally commencing my first year as a teacher with my own classroom, my own set of rules, my own agenda and lesson plans. It felt great to finally achieve what I had always wanted and longed for. The students quickly filled in the classroom but it took a few minutes to get them settled down with all the talk of their summer vacation. Teaching a senior class in high school was a bit nerve-wrecking considering that I had just been in their grade a few years prior and there wasn’t much of an age difference, especially with those who had stayed back once or twice. I was eager and looked forward to a great year; my hopes were up very high.

After my introduction and a few getting-to-know each other activities, I began by collecting the summer work. More than half did not complete it, which was very disappointing and I hoped the year would not continue in such manner. Many of what I supposed to be the football players and cheerleaders, or the “cool” kids, did not hand in the assignment and were quite rude and disrespectful towards other students. I asked for them to be quiet and be respectful, announcing that it was the number one class rule. They laughed and made jokes, but I continued to read the course syllabus.

It was hard to get through the entire list for all the fooling around that was going on in the back. Again, I asked for them to be quiet and follow along.

“Nah, I ain’t gonna do that” responded one of them, the others laughed.
I finished reading the list and sat down at my desk as they worked on the first assignment. Every time I looked up to make sure all was well and everybody was working, the kids in the back would giggle and whisper things. I did not let it get to me because I knew that would always happen, I mean I did it in high school too.
But it got worse. I tried to ignore them but I could read their lips and make out all the nasty names they were calling me. How could they say such things about a person whom they just met and knew nothing about? Once more, I asked for them to focus.

“Will you leave us alone if I give you a twinkie?” asked Allen. That one really got to me because I have dealt with weight issues since I was little.

“Yeah I knew that would shut her up,” he continued “hahahaha.”

I ignored the comment and proceeded to grading the summer work. Faintly, I could hear his voice and see him through the corner of my eye. He was still making remarks about my weight and my double chin. I honestly wanted to run out and not come back.

“Haha, I know.” I could bearly make out their whispers, “She…” I focused and tuned in a bit more, “…looks huge!” they continued.

“I’m surprised the chair hasn’t broken!”

    “Hahaha, it will soon!”

“I bet she keeps snacks in the top drawer!”

I could not take it anymore. All the torment that I experienced in high school for being overweight was replaying in my head— I felt helpless. I ran out of the classroom…

  19. Jacob looked over at Isabella and smiled at her the way every girl wanted a guy to smile at them. I saw her smile light up her whole face and she looked happy for once. Isabella started to talk to him and the way he smiled at her made it seem like she probably said funny or sweet. She probably called him sweet. They both sat down at the table that was in the library. Before she sat down he pulled the seat out and she sat down and he pushed it in. What he just did was every girls dream. She began to blush. He then started to talk to her and it I could barely make out what he was saying. It looked like he said that she was beautiful. She then laughed and shook her head as if she was saying no, but she was blushing. She looked gorgeous with her long silky straight hair pushed back. He kept looking at her and probably thinking to himself that he was a lucky guy. He then started to talk again and he probably said that she loved what she was wearing because right after that she looked down at her outfit and it looked like she said thank you with a big smile on her face. Isabella started to get up but Jacob grabbed her arm and told her to stay for a while. Slowly Isabella sat back down and turned her head away from Jacob. She looked down at her phone and put her hand over her mouth. It looked like she was in shock. Her face started to turn red and then tears started coming down from her eyes. Jacob got up and pulled her up to hug her. They just stood there. He was whispering to her. He was saying how everything was going to be alright. She was going to make through this. She was going to do just fine dealing with whatever it is that she is going through. He just held her there and I can tell by her face that she was completely comfortable of him being there and hugging her. It made her feel safe. She then whispered thank you and broke from the hug. She then started to whip her eyes with a tissue he gave her and he made her laugh. I saw her face light up and her big smile on her face brought a smile to his. It also brought a smile to mine. Jacob grabbed Isabella’s hand and told her she was the most beautiful girl in the world and he said that he wanted to ask her something. He then let go of her hand and reached down into his pocket. He pulled down a little black box and got down on one knee. He then said, Isabella Marie, will you marry me? Her face lit up with joy and screamed yes. He then got up and she jumped on top of him and gave him a kiss. They both walked out holding hands.

  20. Another boring Wednesday in the office. You’d think being the VP of a law firm would fill your life with work and meetings. Surprisingly it’s anything, but that busy busy busy life you’d expect. I barely get meetings since everyone likes to communicate through typing. Also Wednesdays are the only days in the week I get no paperwork. I spun around in my chair for the 20th time and stopped to look at the ceiling again. ‘Maybe counting the ceiling tiles again will help time pass.’
“Hey Drake, wanna go out for lunch?” I heard from the door. I looked down to see one of my friends and coworkers George. I glanced at the clock and saw it was 12:15. “I can see you spinning from my cubicle.” He said with a smirk “I guessed you might need a break.”
“That would be beyond great” I said relieved. “When are you going?”
“Probably in the next 5 minutes. I just have to fax the files over for the Branson case then we can go.” He said leaning against my open door. I gave him and he walked out. ‘Now I have to kill 5 minutes.’ I glanced over at the lounge and saw some workers talking and chowing down. Carolyn walked in and popped her head in the fridge. ‘Hmm I think I have an idea’
She pulled her head out and took out some Chinese food. She walked over to the microwave and took someone else’s food out and put in her own. Sam turned around and looked at her with a raised eyebrow. “Was that done?” I imagined him asking.
Carolyn shrugged and then examined her nails. “No, but I’m hungry so whoever it is can wait until my stuff is done.”
Sam shook his head “That’s not cool Cara.”
Carolyn ran her fingers threw her hair and tossed it over her shoulder. “Do you really think I care?” She responded laughing a little.
“Oh you will just wait.” He said turning back to his sandwich. At that moment Debby walked in and stepped to the fridge.
“Hey you guys.” She while pulling out a smoothie bottle.
“Hey” Both Carolyn and Sam responded at the same time.
“Is my food done?” She asked pointing her question at Sam. He shook his head and then nodded toward Carolyn.
“Not sure Debs, I think you should ask Cara.” He said stuffing a piece of his BLT in his mouth. ‘Man I want a BLT. Or maybe a double cheese burger.’
Debby looked over at Carolyn. “Carolyn is my food done?” she asked confused. Cara shook her head and then leaned on the counter.

    1. “No I took it out to warm up some of my stuff.” She said nonchalantly. Sarah looked at her and then took a sip of her smoothie. She scrunched together her eyebrows and frowned ay Carolyn. They stood there for a second in silence and Sam sat drinking his coke watching both women carefully.
“So were you going to put it back in?” Debby asked still frowning. Carolyn sighed and then smiled slightly at Debby.
“I didn’t plan on it Deborah. I was thinking whoever wanted it could put it back in.”
“That’s rude Carolyn.” Debby said shaking her head and putting her drink down. The timer for the microwave stopped and Carolyn walked over and took her food out.
“Not my problem.” She said with a shrug looking for a plastic fork from the drawer. “I have my food now don’t I?” She said smiling cheekily at Debby. Debby glared at Carolyn and walked up to her taking the food from her hands and dumping it in the sink.
“What the hell Deborah?!” Carolyn yelled throwing her hands up.
“I’m sick and tired of you playing the mean girl role here! Grow up already Carolyn, this is not high school!” Debby yelled pointing at Carolyn’s face. “Be an adult!”
“I am a grown woman!” Carolyn yelled back. At this Sam started to snicker and Carolyn glared at him placing her hands on her hips. “Do you have something to say Samuel?”
“Oh I beg to differ about you being a ‘grown woman’.” He said laughing and using air quotes.
“Drake you ready to go?” George asked opening my door.
“Yeah let’s go.” I said grabbing my suit jacket and cellphone. We walked out to the hall and saw a steaming mad Carolyn walk past us.
“And don’t you ever talk to him again!” Debby yelled from the lounge.
“I wonder what that was about.” George said while we walked out of the door. I shook my head and then started to laugh. ‘Maybe my idea of it was a little off’

  21. Kenny and Kevin are in a team together.
Douglas and Steven are in a team together.
They were playing soccer and Kenny and Kevin thought that Doug and Steven could not hear them talking about the game.
Kenny- “Okay Kevin I am going to go to the right and pass the ball to you on your left side.” in the loudest whisper out there.
Kevin- “Alright I got it they won’t even know what hit them, then we will score.” also in the loudest whisper out there.
Doug- “They are so loud, they are giving the play away so then I cover Kenny on his right side.” Doug actually whispered.
Steven- “So then I will cover Kevin’s left side.” Steven also whispered.
(The play starts Kenny managed to get the ball through the right side but Steven was a wall on Kevin’s left side.)
Kevin- “Kenny your game plan was horrible, you barely got passed Doug and Steven knew the ball was going to the left side.”
    Kenny- “Sorry I didn't know.”
Doug and Steven-Break down laughing at the sight of Kevin and Kenny arguing.
Kevin- “You see they’re laughing at us let me give the game plan...I got it so I will run out with the ball chip it over the person covering me and you just header the ball in.” not knowing that we can hear them he loudly whispered .
Kenny- “Fine! That sounds better than what my plan was.” He said with some anger and disappointment in a roaring whisper.
Steven- “They are going to catch on that we can hear them so let’s let them score this one.” He let out cleverly in a light whisper.
Doug- “Yeah that is a good idea let’s let them think they are good.” in a laughing whisper.
(The game plan went as they planned they chipped the ball over Doug and Kenny headed over Steven.)
Kenny and Kevin- “Yeah baby did you just see that goal; to nasty boys you guys are bad.” They shouted with pride.
Doug- “Alright… but the score is tied, I bet you we will score this time.” Doug yelled out.
Kevin- “Okay you see where Steven is in the right side?” he said not even trying to whisper any more.
    Kenny- “Yeah.” he stated.
Kevin- “Well I am going to sprint on the left side and center it to you while Steven and Doug come to me.” he proclaimed.
(The game starts but while Kevin is keeping an eye on Steven he did not notice Doug had moved to the right side. Doug gets the ball runs down the field and drills the ball in.)
Doug and Steven- Yell out and start to talk smack about Kevin and Kenny about how they are bad at soccer.
(This goes on for the next half hour Doug and Steven just dominating the game until Kevin and Kenny get tired of getting scored on.)
Kevin and Kenny- “The score is 10-1 we are just done we quit!” and they just walk out the field.

  22. Coleen shouted from her bedroom, “MOM! Where is my new dress? “
Her mom called back, “I don’t know honey maybe Lisa took it. “
Coleen screamed back, “I hate Lisa she always takes my stuff.”
Lisa yelled in anger from her room, “I hate you too Coleen, you are the worst sister ever!”
Lisa ran out of her room crying and she went downstairs to her mom.
“Mommy! Coleen is being mean,” Lisa wined.
“It’s okay Lisa stop being a baby,” her mom insistent.
“Mom, come help me,” Colleen called again.
“Colleen I will be right there stop it,” her mother said.
“NO! NO! NO! Come NOOOOW mother!” He called out again.
Lisa and the mom walked up to Colleen’s room.
All of Colleen’s clothes and dress were all over the bedroom floor.
The dog stared barking because of all the yelling in the house.
Lisa was jumping on Colleen’s bed and making an even bigger mess.
Lisa fell off the bed and started to cry.
“Mommy I got a booboo,” Lisa cried out.
Lisa’s mom helped her off the floor to get a Band-Aid for her cut.
Colleen yelled at her mom for helping Lisa and not her.
“Mom, come back in here,” Colleen yelled.
“No Colleen, I am helping your sister right now,” The mother said.
“But I need help more,” Colleen said selfishly.
Colleen started to throw everything into the hallway and cry.
She was really made she couldn’t find her dress.

The dress was nowhere to be found.

Colleen yelled to her mom, “No I want this one.”
Colleen fell to the floor and was crying.
“I am never going to be happy again!” She yelled.

  25. I always used to sit in the back row of the church when I did this. I sat there because whenever I wasn’t wondering about Jesus on the cross, I was staring at Charlotte Baker. All I could ever see of her from the seat was the back of her head, but it was always on hopes that she would turn around and I’d get a glimpse of those big green eyes. She was the most beautiful girl I’d ever seen, but I knew she’d never want to be with a guy like me. She was perfect, and though her family was probably hurting from the stock market crash too, she still had more money than I did, and besides she was a good church going girl and I was just a boy who sat and wondered how a man that couldn’t even stand up for himself was someone that we worshipped.
She came in that day that my mother sent me to the church. She came in while I was sitting in the back row thinking about Jesus and she stopped and smiled at me. “Hello, Willie,” she said, “what brings you here today?” Her voice was as bright as her eyes.
“Oh, hey Charlie,” I said, happy she’d stopped to talk. “Momma sent me here to pray. Said I should pray for my old man. He’s not having such a good day.”
“William Harrison how many times do I have to tell you? I’m a lady now, call me Charlotte.” She said it in a serious tone, but her smile was still on her face. I knew she didn’t really mind it when I called her Charlie.
“I’m sorry Charlotte,” I said, nodding because I knew she had more to say.
“Apology accepted,” she giggled and then continued. “I’m here to pray too. My daddy went to the bank yesterday and when he came home I heard him talkin’ and saying that all our money’s gone.”
“Yeah, all our money’s gone too,” I said looking down at my hands. “I overheard my old man saying that he’s never seen the economy this bad. He says it’s a lot more than just a recession. “Charlie,” I said meeting her eyes,” I don’t think my family can take a hit like this. I don’t know what we’re gonna do.”
She didn’t correct me this time for calling her Charlie. Instead she sat next to me and put her hand on mine. At first she didn’t say anything; she just stared straight ahead, trying to think of something to say that would comfort me. “We’ll make it through,” she said, and I couldn’t help but believe her.

  26. “Did you get it?”
My friend and I sat closely huddled in the back corner of English class. There was a substitute, and so fifth period became the perfect opportunity to catch up on events occurring in the outside world. For the past few months we had been observing our professors profound ways in excelling the world of wizardry, and all of the loop holes that went along with casting spells and mixing potions. We learned of goblins gold and fairy dust and toad legs and all that you could imagine that would take part in these concoctions, but were told to never try it for ourselves, without the precise and focused supervision of our professor. Oops.
“Yup, that’s it.” I whispered as my friend motioned towards the objects sitting in her bag.
“We’ll have to be fast though, God forbid anyone else saw us. Professor would have our heads.”
She was right, this was a very risky task, and if it wasn’t done the right way, we were done for.
“Hurry up,” I motioned towards the rabbit hole in the corner of the room “now!”
Katy took the substance that had been sitting in her bag, and without hesitation, she poured it down the hole. Immediately tossing the bottle back into hiding after the last drops went through.
“Did anyone see us?” I whispered, trying not to bring any attention to the back of the room.
By this time, the majority of the class was either passed out on top of their desks, or listening to music lost in another world.
“No, I think we’re okay. I mean…I hope so. Yeah.” Katy seemed nervous, but I knew we were fine. How could anyone have seen us? It happened so quickly that it had to have been missed.
As I got up to wash the evidence away from my hands, I noticed a boy sitting in the far back opposite corner of us. Why hadn’t I noticed him earlier? Had he been there the whole time?
“Pstt Katy, was that boy there this whole time? Do you think he saw us?” I was unsure of our luck at this point. Maybe somebody else saw us. We couldn’t risk the chance of getting in trouble.
“Hey” I smirked in an almost half whisper as I walked toward the boy,
    “What are you doing?”
He just stared back at me, stared at the wall, and then stared back. He knew.
“What did you see?” I questioned as my body began to shake.
He looked at me straight in the eyes, “I saw everything. The schools going to smell like cheese by the end of the day, right?”
    >>DAMMIT<<
No one was supposed to know. He could see my face getting red at this point, but then he surprised me.
“Hey, don’t worry. Your secret is safe with me. Just don’t rat me out if you do end up getting caught.”
    “Great, will do.”
This is terrible, I just needed to finish it. Oops.
