My Favorite Character

My Favorite Character

Your assignment is to write a five-hundred word piece about your favorite character.  This can be from a book, movie, comic book, or TV show.

Here are some suggestions for where you can go with this:

·         Explain the reasons for why you like this character so much.

·         Talk about whether you relate to the character or view him as absurd.

·         Discuss whether the character is realistic or not.

·         Discuss your thoughts about whether or not the character’s creator keeps the character’s actions consistent.

·         Explore a moment where you believe the character’s creator failed to portray the character in a consistent way.

·         Try to describe the character’s philosophy on life.

  1. A sweet, quiet conservative girl on the outside, with a darkside trying to make its way out. That’s the personality of Emily Fields in Pretty Little Liars. Emily is raised by a conservative family, and is taught to be civil and respectful. Her life can be roughly described as going to school every day, and swimming after school along with hanging out with her sister, Carolyn on the weekends. She wears nothing that exposes her body, by wearing mostly swim shirts every day. Her personality is very sensative, quiet and reserved. That is what one would think at first glance, but there is a lot more to her in this good-natured character.
In the first book, we find out that Emily starts having a crush on Maya, the girl who has recently moved into the house of her dead best friend, Alison. Later,we find out that she has had a crush on Alison, which only Alison knew and would always tease her about. At first, when Emily’s family finds out about her sexuality, they try to put her into counceling. She agrees with it at first, but after a while, she realizes she can’t change who she is, and so she goes back to dating Maya. This can be considdered an act of rebellian on her part. When she is sent to live with her extremely religious aunt and uncle in Iowa, she rebells again by going to a party with her cousins at night.
I really admire this character because I feel like I can relate to her very well. When anyone, especially an adult, is told of my dark side, they act surprised. They seem to think I am quiet and reserved, just like Emily fields. I might have that personality, but there is more to me that is trying to make its way on the outside. Sometimes, When other relatives are over, I try to crack a slightly dirty joke, so people know the sarcastic and wicked side of me. It is just me being who I am, like Emily tries to do. You can’t always live a certain way to satisfy other people, you have to sometimes do things that make up who you are, even if others might disagree with it.

  2. My favorite character is Stitch from Lilo and Stitch. He is my favorite character because of his ability to overcome diversity. Also, he is very spontaneous. Being from another planet, it is hard to predict what Stitch is going to do next. I cannot relate to Stitch. First of all, I am not a blue alien, I do not befriend young children, and I am not as crazy as he is. I also, do not view him as absurd. Some of the things Stitch does are completely out of character. Stitch has the ability to turn off his destructive demeanor and become a compassionate… alien. In many ways, this makes Stitch realistic. He can turn from this little monster that will tear apart houses and lift cars into someone who, like a pet, has the ability to comfort Lilo when she is going through her bullying and family struggles. However, on the outside, Stitch can also be argued to be unrealistic. Stitch is an experimental creature. He is the size of a toddler and is able to lift heavy items, like a car for example. He also has six limbs and antennas. He came to Earth on a spaceship that crashed on the island of Hawaii. He was able to survive being run over by a eighteen wheeler truck and was brought into an dog shelter where all the other dogs feared him because of his strange appearance. The creator of Stitch allows him to grow as a character throughout the multiple movies and television show he appears in. When Lilo first meets Stitch, he is destructive. There is a scene in the first Lilo and Stitch where Stitch has created an entire city replica. He then recreates the classic scene of the gigantic monster overpowering the city and stomping on the buildings, car, bridges, and people. This shows the more evil and angered side of Stitch. Throughout the movie, Lilo trains Stitch to control his anger. By the end of the movie, Stitch is a kind and loveable… alien. The creator of Stitch does not keep his actions constant throughout the movies because Stitch becomes a different character after he meets Lilo. This is not a flaw on the creator’s part but a benefit. He is able to keep the plot and action going throughout the movie as Stitch forms into a new character. Stitch’s philosophy on life is to be the best friend he can be to Lilo who took him under her belt and helped him form to society’s standers. He learns by watching humans how to act properly and how to be a good friend. He works hard, and even fails sometimes, but keeps his head up with the encouragement of Lilo. He even tries new things to support his friend, for example, surfing even though he has a fear of the water. I admire Stitch for his hard work and dedication to his goal on Earth and this is one of the reasons why he is one of my many favorite characters.

  3. My favorite character is Donkey from Shrek. He is my favorite character because he is the only one that had a sense of humor when bad things were going on in their adventure, he was also a good friend that stuck by Shrek whenever he was being mean to him. He would stick by him through thick or thin. Donkey was very funny, talkative and outgoing, and also a little sissy. I relate myself to this character because I'm always there for my friends when they need me in any type of situation, may not be physically but at least mentally. I love being a social person and i hate when things are so quiet. I get scared easily whenever approaching an empty place for example a haunted one. Donkey is down to earth and so am I.

  4. My favorite character from a story is Jebel Rum from The Thin Executioner by Darren Shan. This boy is portrayed as a weak being, always kept down by his family. Nobody ever thought he would amount to anything in his life. He was always seen as a nothing, never to become one of the highly respected people in his society. His family also thought the same about him, they were still his family but by no means did they accept him as one of their own. I can greatly relate to this character, mainly on the fact that both of us have gone through many a problem in their existence. The situations were not exactly alike but they were similar. I always felt that earlier in my life many thought I would amount to nothing, and I did have that view on some people, I regret those thoughts now but they were there. Both of us were ridiculed, the difference between us in that was I was only ridiculed by those my own age; he was slandered by everyone that he knew. The only good that came out of it was that it made me a stronger person in the long run, and I do not like the fact that it had happened to me but I do accept that it did and who I am now is partially because of it. This character has also strived through so many things that it is a surprise how he came out. I truly like this character because he is a survivor, he adapts to any situation that he comes in contact with. Whenever any adversity was thrown at him he did not crumble at it, he stared it in the face and charged head on to meet the demands. For how small he was too that was an amazing feet for him to accomplish. If nothing else there is admiration for this fictional character just for the sheer will power it took to stand against his fears and to not just skirt past them but to conquer and finally vanquish them. He did have an odd philosophy on life throughout the entire novel. In the beginning he relished a good execution wanting to watch the head roll off the body of the victim. Like many in his village they enjoyed the sight, their executioner was the most revered man in the village and many wanted his position. Towards the end though his view on the subject greatly changed, he no longer had the stomach for the carnage and despised the laws of his society for killing any criminal. He worked to make a better justice system in the end so no more did a man have to murder another to punish them for their wrongs. In the end he could be seen as an idealist in this aspect, he didn’t see the need to kill a thief for taking only a small amount of pocket change to feed his family, it may have been a dishonorable act but his intentions were in the right.

  5. SpongeBob by far is my favorite character. I like SpongeBob because he’s been a big part of my childhood. I remember waking up early on Saturdays just to watch this show. I can’t really say that I relate to a yellow sponge but I can relate to him in a way. He loves being a fry cook, no matter how much Mr. Krabs or Squidward treat him he still enjoys cooking Krabby Patties. One can tell that being a fry cook and getting a low salary sucks but SpongeBob is passionate about his work and does it with love. That’s what I admire from him. SpongeBob is not realistic in any physical form, but his actions are. Throughout the years of watching SpongeBob the creator has changed the characters actions, almost as if he was targeting a younger audience. Plus the creator dumbed it down for the younger audience. I can’t really say that the creator failed to portray the character in a consistent way because it’s obvious how each character is going to react. If something happens to SpongeBob he ends up finding a positive to it, or Patrick says something dumb like he always does. The consistency is, and will always be there. SpongeBob’s philosophy on life is very unique. He wakes up and automatically has a smile on his face. He is ready to take on the day. He even says it’s on the way to work “I’m ready, I’m ready, I’m ready…” He goes every day to the place the loves to work, The Krusty Krab. One would think he would hate his job because he gets paid very low, it’s greasy, disgusting, and his staff treats him like a slave. But no matter how ill Squidward treats him, he always laughs it off. That is someone who is passionate about their work. In real life, of someone was passionate about something they will strive to do it. That’s what SpongeBob represents, a symbol of a passionate worker.
SpongeBob enjoys every little thing in his life. For example, in a episode where he is with Sandy, he does everything he can to enjoy his last couple days with her before she goes into hibernation. They do extreme things, like finding hay in the needle stack, extreme sand boarding and other things. Another thing I admire about SpongeBob is how loyal he is to his friends, even to Squidward who is consistently putting him down. SpongeBob should be a role model for children. I grew up not hating people who hate me. I just kill them with kindness. SpongeBob has a bigger meaning then just being a yellow sponge, SpongeBob shows the meaning of friendship, doing what you love to do, and enjoying life to its fullest.

  6. My favorite character to ever live would have to be Marv from sin city. Most people don’t know or have not seen the movie or know who he is but he is a character from the comic book “Sin City” and he is a guy that kills bad people in a corrupt place. He goes to a lot of strip clubs and he carries a lot of guns, he also kills a lot of bad people and he helps the good people. He is also a complete badass and he has an extremely high pain tolerance and he ends up getting caught by the police for killing a corrupt priest that has been eating humans and kills him after he kills his accomplice. He gets caught killing the priest and he gets beat before getting the electric chair and then the next story begins in the comic book. I like Marv because he is a good guy and he kills the bad guys, when I was younger he was my favorite character and my brother and I use to watch the movie when we were younger and he started calling me Marv and has called me it ever since. To this day that is the only nickname that I he has ever given me and besides idiot, moron, jackass and so on, but the only nickname that he has given me is Marv. When I go to the marines I will have to name my gun and I will name my gun “Gladys” because that is he named his gun. I have this all planned out and even though Gladys is a hideous name, I’m going to name my gun Gladys for him. So my favorite character is Marv from Sin City the graphic novel and he goes to strip clubs, drinks, and kills a whole bunch of bad guys.

  7. My favorite character is Tom from a cartoon show called Tom & Jerry this cartoon show is one of my favorite because it has a nice idea of it cat beats mouse but its different most of the time its mouse beats cat. I like this character not just because it makes me laugh when he gets beat but because he in a way shows us lessons that we might actually use in real life for example the fact that him and jerry which is the mouse never actually are separate and no matter how many time they fight they will always be together and even in some cases Tom ends up getting jerry out of big messes as same for tom when jerry helps him out. Tom & Jerry is not real therefor meaning Tom is not real but I can enjoy the humor of the cartoon because a cat cannot walk with two feet and specially can survive the things that happen to him like getting hit by a truck or even worse getting cut into pieces and put him back together. Tom and jerry also make me feel like there will always be someone for you out there for you and can take anything you throw at them. Jerry is also an inspiring character he taught me that size don’t matter when it comes to beating someone taller than you also the show shows a lot of friendship and how many kinds of animals can work together to accomplished something. Tom is made just to chase jerry the mouse and jerry is just to run away sometimes even others get involve which kind of takes out the momentum of the story but it makes it more interesting because this were you see them actually work together sometimes.

  8. My favorite character is from the movie scar face and his name was Tony Montana. Tony was an immigrant from Cuba that fought on the opposite side from Fidel Castro in their civil war so he fled to America for a new life. Tony is placed in the freedom immigrant camp in America. He is able to gain a Green card by killing an ex Cuban politician that was in the camp. Montana killed the politician for a wealthy drug dealer. Montana then begins to work his way into the drug dealer’s ring of close friends who took care of jobs for him. Montana then begins to make big money by doing drug deals and buys for the drug dealer whose name was Frank. Montana was a man who wanted the world and all the power he could have in the palm of his hand. Montana is then sent to Bolivia to meet the drug producer Sosa. While at Sosa’s house they are negotiating the deal that Montana was supposed to stay out of but he took control of the deal and got on Sosa’s good side. When he went back to Miami he begins to slowly cut Frank out of the business until Montana ends up killing Frank. Montana then takes over the whole business and gets all the money and power he ever wanted. Montana became too greedy however and ended up offending Sosa and Sosa then sends assassins and kills Montana. Even though Montana was killed at the end of the movie he had the drive and will power to gain whatever he wanted. He was and honest and a very hard worker who was very cruel and vicious when it came to his friends getting hurt. Montana was a very ambitious person who after had got that power had begun to lose himself in the drugs that came with all the power and money. However even in the end Montana was being shot at by more than 20 guys and he took them all head on with his assault rifle and almost took out all of them before someone shot him in the head from behind. Montana was also never satisfied with what he had even though he had more money than he knew what to do with. Montana always wanted more and more just like me. I always am looking for more even if I have enough of it. I never want to be satisfied with what I have. I also want to live in a big house with a ton of money but I would not go about getting the power the same way. We also stay very loyal to our friends and family even if they don’t want to talk or be associated with us. Montana also always stuck to who he was as a person he never changed he was always hungry for more and wanted more for his friends that were close to him. He was one of the best characters I have ever seen in a movie.

  9. One of my favorite characters is Hazel Levesque from the Son of Neptune. Hazel is one of my favorite characters because she is so generous and loyal. Hazel Levesque died in 1942, but was given a second chance at life from her half-brother, Nico di Angelo. After residing at Camp Jupiter for months, she was sent on mission with Frank Zhang and Percy Jackson to free Thanatos, otherwise known as death. Hazel believed that once Death was free that he would take her back to the Underworld. Despite this, she knew that she had to free Death in order to save Camp Jupiter. Hazel put her friends, which she knew only for a few months, before her own life. Hazel was brave and stayed with friends to save them. She even almost drowned in a mud pit to save Percy from drowning as well. I cannot relate to Hazel that well, but I don't think that she's absurd. Anyone strong enough to give up their life to spare their friends is a hero. Hazel's personality and her relationship with her mother are realistic, but Hazel's abilities and past aren't realistic. Hazel is a kind girl who was abused by her mother towards the end of her first life. Sadly abused children are a reality, so it isn't that outlandish for her to have been abused. Her personality is also very realistic. Hazel would give her life before she let one of her friends die. People in real life do that too. The heroic people at the Colorado Shooting shielded their loved ones from harm, just like how Hazel tries to do. However, being the daughter of Pluto is impossible. Roman gods don't exist, so that is definitely unrealistic. In addition, being able to control precious metals at will, riding a horse that can run at the speed of sound, and coming back from the dead are all impossible. The creator of Hazel Levesque, Rick Riordan, did portray the character’s actions consistently. Of course the reader can see how Hazel grows from her experiences throughout the book, she stays the same. Although in the scene where Hazel met her father, the character’s creator failed to portray the character in a consistent way. Hazel was vicious and blamed her father for everything that had happened to her and her mother. This seemed extremely different to the compassionate Hazel in the rest of the book. Hazel’s philosophy on life is that of an Ancient Roman. She believes in the gods of Olympus, the Titans, and other monsters. Hazel also believes that when a person dies their soul gets sent to The Field of Punishment, The Field of Asphodel, or Elysium. She also believes that monsters get sent into Tartarus. Hazel made some wrong choices in her first life, but she made up for it in her second life. I think that it’s admirable how Hazel can think clearly and not freak out in dangerous situations. Hazel is a courageous warrior and a fantastic friend that is why she is one of my favorite characters.

  10. My favorite character comes from a TV show called Sherlock. The main character Sherlock Holmes is a consultant detective. He doesn’t work for the police but rather with them. In this show he is portrayed perfectly. He is very egotistical and brilliant. He usually doesn’t need anyone’s help in solving a crime but does get some help from his friend Doctor Watson. The actor who plays him is wonderful because he is able to portray him very well. He knows everything there is to know and hates everyone else who doesn’t, which is basically everyone. He is able to look at a crime scene and figure out most of the crime. The thing I love most about this Sherlock though is that this takes place in modern day. The old Sherlock was supposed to be in the late 1800’s to early 1900’s. This Sherlock takes place in modern day so cell phones come into a major play in the series. Sherlock does all of his communication through his cell phone. One of the cases he did was all about information on one cell phone. This Sherlock Holmes brings out all of Sherlock’s characteristics from the old series. During many of the episodes I have seen he has been playing the violin. In the old series he is known as a master violin player. He often says that playing the violin helps him think.
The real thing that amazes me the most about him is his ability to solve problems. He is able to look at a person and figure out there whole life story just by how they kept themselves. He notices small details on a person like whether their hair is combed or if they have dogs. He can decide whether a person was murdered or if he committed suicide. And if it was murder he can explain why it was and how it would have been done. The funny thing is that the clues he sees, the viewers can also see but don’t. He is able to look at everything that is important and blokes out everything that isn’t important. He ridicules people for not being able to understand what he is saying and makes a game out of trying to get everyone to think how he thinks. Even if he knows the answer to a problem he will ask someone else for their opinion. When they give the wrong answer he is right there to correct them. It is fun to watch him throughout all of these episodes because he does really know everything. No matter what problem he is faced with he is able to solve it in record time, and he is able to make a fool out of every police officer there.

  11. It was impossible.
    It was wonderful.
In front of him stood his creations, and the woman who he did not create that had told Dracon the horrific story of Mount Cragg. The Fire Clan. Yashonofy, Alantorson, and Ziekk. All three there and in the flesh. Jordan’s first reaction was to hold out his hand to introduce himself to his characters, but when he saw what was on his arm, he immediately lowered it. His arm had been covered with armor. Golden armor. The type that King Dracon would wear. He looked down at himself, and saw that his body was covered in that armor. And in his belt was his sword, the sword that he had crafted for King Dracon to wear. He reached up to touch is face, and felt hair on his chin and cheeks that he had never felt before. There was no doubt about it. He was King Dracon.
For a moment, he was stunned. He couldn’t move, couldn’t breathe, couldn’t even think. How could this have happened? And what would he do now? “Dracon?” he heard Ziekk say, concern in his voice. “Are you alright?”
Jordan could not react. The shock was overwhelming. The fate of a country was in his hands… could he bear such responsibility? Was any of this real? He opened his mouth to say something back to his creation, but couldn’t find any words to do his situation justice. So instead, he just wobbled a bit on his feet and dumbly said “Good morning.”
Alantorson raised his eyebrow. “Dracon, it’s midafternoon.”
Jordan shook his head, trying to make sense of how he could possibly be having a conversation with one of his imaginary characters. “What… just happened?” he asked.
“We had just stopped to take a bite to eat, and suddenly you cried out and dropped to the ground. You were out for only a couple seconds,” Alantorson replied.
Jordan took this information in, and nodded slowly. “I see. I am sorry, I don’t know what came over me.”
Ziekk walked over to Jordan, and Jordan felt his heart flutter as he looked upon the face of his creation. He was so perfect, his face exactly as Jordan had imagined, scars, marks, and all. He handed Jordan a piece of something that looked like bread that had been baked without yeast. Jordan remembered creating this, it started out as an elven dish called Illull, and was supposed to heighten the mind and strengthen the body of whoever consumed it. Since the reclusive race of elves started interacting with the humans that lived in this world, Illull had become a staple of every man’s diet. As Jordan held it up to his mouth, he realized that he had never thought about what this bread would taste like. He took a bite, and chewed slowly, expecting it to taste flavorless since he had never decided what it was made of. But as he chewed his mouth filled with a variety of flavors.

  12. My favorite character in literature is Equality from Anthem, a novella by Ayn Rand. This novel features a “utopian” society where free-thinking is viewed as sin. The government controls the thoughts and actions of all members of this society, in an attempt to avoid any conflict. Equality is a free-thinking rebel that refuses to live under the government’s oppressive control. This power has gone so far as to take away any technological advances including electricity and light. Equality, in his secret rebellion, begins to rediscover the innovations of the past, including an invention widely taken advantage of in today’s world, the light bulb.
I admire this character for many reasons. Mostly, I am inspired by his will to rebel against what he views as wrong. Thought should never be oppressed. Individuality is the key to a beautiful life, and Equality sees that. Although many may recognize the injustice in this society, Equality takes action. This is a very admirable quality that I would like to live by. Without people like Equality in the world, there would be a much larger rise in evil and oppression. Standing up for what one believes in the key to success. Often, it will lead others to do the right thing as well. Equality also breaks these harsh laws for love, which is a strong force that I, personally, believe conquers all. Love is not a common concept in Anthem’s setting. The government arranges the mating system and love, dating, and marriage are forbidden when not set up by the higher powers. Equality fights for Liberty, the woman he loves, and helps her escape with him to the remains of the old, better world.
I can easily relate to this character. Many have suggested that I step down from arguments, but that’s not a task I’m capable of. I have been raised to stand up for myself and what I believe in. There are many forms of oppression in this country that many do not see or do not recognize as oppression until they’ve experienced it first-hand. I have experienced it first-hand. Because of that, I use my will to fight against it in every way that I can. I believe very strongly in politics and I have found myself countless times in very passionate debates that can last hours for I believe that politics, can, in fact, bring oppression and fight against love.
This character is very realistic in the way that many people show this passion for freedom. Although this world may not offer the corruption that is found in this story, many have risen up against powers that hold them down. Many are willing to go against their government. There have been countless revolutions all over the world, including my home country, America. These revolutions have been led by people like Equality. These people disagreed with their government, undermined their authority and eventually took them out of power. Although in Anthem, Equality and Liberty chose to escape instead of take down the authority, they can compare to refugees.

  13. My favorite character is Owen Armstrong from a novel called “Just Listen” by Sarah Desson. Owen is a character that the story’s protagonist, Annabel Greene, befriends. On the surface, especially to his peers, Owen appears to be intimidating; physically, he very tall and broad, had past anger management issues, and he tends be stick to himself when he’s in school. Nobody really knows anything about him—the other high school students avoid him and their only views on Owen come from the rumors about him. When Annabel finds herself dumped by her own friends, she gradually becomes friends with Owen—someone she initially judged as well—and she discovers who he really is. Owen is an extremely passionate character; he has a love for music, which he listens to any chance he has. He even works for a local radio station as a DJ. Also, Owen proves to be a very caring character and becomes extremely passionate about Annabel. Not only does he fall in love with her as the novel progresses, but he also advises her about her life and problems with her friends and family. Owen, no matter what the situation, sticks to the truth, and he teaches Annabel to do the same. He appreciates honesty at all times and detests lying—even for the smallest things. Although people who do not know him judge him, he disregards them and lives for himself—something Annabel has always struggled to do.

I definitely admire Owen’s individuality as a character and his ability to do what he wants, despite others’ opinions. I can relate to Owen as well. His passion for music makes him such a realistic character, and as a person with certain passions myself, I can understand the obsession with it and desire to constantly be around it. Owen lives for his passion, the way I do for mine. Throughout the novel, the author seemed to portray Owen in a consistent manner—especially with his devotion for truth. The only significant, clear change in Owen’s character is when he falls for Annabel because he is typically someone who always seems to enjoy solitude. I also liked Owen’s maturity in his character. Although he had anger issues in the past, he had clearly moved on from them and used what he learned to get over his struggle to help Annabel. Although the friendship between them is very unexpected, Owen becomes an important part of Annabel’s life. He influences her on a personal level—the way nobody has before. For the first time, she opens up about what she really feels about things—the truth—and she works on living to ensure her happiness even in hard times. This even leads her to quit modeling—something she had been doing since she was young but stayed with it in order to make her mother happy. Nevertheless, Owen is intense and mysterious, yet he is a role model at the same time, making him one of the most memorable fictional characters I have come across in a while.

  14. My favorite character is from a comic book. That character is the one and only Batman. He is my favorite character because he is literally the best super hero. Not Superman. Not Spiderman. Not Captain America. It’s Batman.
Simply put, Batman is a bad ass. Bruce Wayne could be content with his life as a billionaire playboy who also happens to be the head of Wayne Enterprises. But he’s not. He spends his nights the caped crusader, patrolling the treacherous streets of Gotham City. He puts his life on the line, against some pretty wild villains, without all the fancy super powers other heroes possess. Instead, he relies on hand to hand combat and various contraptions to defeat his many foes.
I wouldn’t say Batman is exactly realistic, but he is more so than other comic book heroes. I think it makes him relatable than others. He is, in some ways, a normal person. He can’t shoot webs from his wrists, he can’t fly, he does not have super human strength. He is an ordinary human being who acts as a masked vigilante, protecting the people when the need him the most.
I think it’s hard to call out Batman for being inconsistent. After all, like many comic book character, he is often portrayed differently depending the writer, actor, comic book, or movie. I guess that might bother some people but I’m okay with it. It keeps things more interesting, I think. I mean, how many Batman related movies are there? A lot. Imagine if in every single it was the same exact Batman, same exact storyline, same Alfred, same Robin. You get the idea, it would be boring. It’s pretty cool to see all the different versions of Batman.
My love for Batman started when I was a small child. I used to watch ‘Batman Forever’ religiously. I thought the whole idea of it was so cool. Plus, Batman was hot. (I used to have the biggest crush on Val Kilmer.) Ever since then, I have had a soft spot in my heart for Bruce Wayne. It’s gotten worse in recent years, with the release of all the new Batman movies. I just really like the idea of this action-packed super hero who is otherwise just a regular self-sacrificing guy. That’s why Batman is my favorite character.

  15. One character has persisted from my childhood to where I stand today. He is a beacon of light and the nemesis of evil, Goku from Dragon Ball Z. I stood on my couch in my living room, tuning in to Toonami around dinner time once a week. TOM, the Toonami robot introduced me to his televised event with what seemed like a spectacle of epic proportions. “Now, it’s time for Dragon Ball Z” is roughly was cued my excitement. Goku’s morals are completely pure and he is an idealized character with few flaws, however at the same time, he is very relatable. Many people want to be what Goku is, a superhero basically. He’s technically from an alien race, the Saiyans, but he considers himself a human because Earth is where he grew up and Earth is what he lives to protect. He has saved the world various times from villains such as Frieza and Cell. His main goal in life is to become as strong as possible and to protect the people he loves. His strength is rarely matched, but when it is, he easily overcomes the competition. His strength is stemmed from all of the good in the world; his strongest move, the spirit bomb, borrows the energy from everyone willing, so only the pure of heart can use it. Despite his strong desire to be strong, his heart is in the perfect place. Many people get mad with power in both fiction and nonfiction. His power is equal to that of a God, but he keeps his morals intact. Through all of the responsibilities he takes on for the human race, he still manages to be a good husband, father and friend as well. Everyone except the enemies he faces look up to him as a character without a flaw. His foil and rival, Vegeta, has a ridiculous sense of pride for their fallen race. He used to be a villain, bent on acquiring immortality and defeating Goku, but he had a turn of heart with Goku as his role model. His most famous quote was against Frieza on the planet Namek, he spoke “I am protector of the innocent, I am the light in the darkness, I am truth, ally to good, and nightmare to you.” Despite it being a little cliché, it describes his personality perfectly. In all honesty, Goku never failed to uphold the personality that makes up his life. Even is the most desperate of times, he sacrificed himself against all odds to keep what he loves. This barely scratches the surface of his accomplishments, but it goes without saying that he is an idealized character.
