Happy October!

We are starting our Twisted Tales unit today!  Since today is also #wcw we'll combine both for today's task:

Take a female protagonist from any fairytale and alter her characterization.  How would your changes affect the plot line?

This is due at the end of class today.

  1. I’m going to twist Gretel from “Hansel and Gretel” as well as a few minor details. Gretel is going to be the second wife’s biological daughter and step-sister to Hansel. Mother and daughter will be evil witches “in league” with the witch from the candy-house. Gretel will have much more evil intentions since she was raised by an evil witch. Evil is all she knows and power will be all she desires. Despite any relationships with Hansel and his father, she will be willing to turn against them in every way to get what she, selfishly, desires. She and her mother will have a complicated relationship. They don’t love each other or really even care about each other, but each finds uses in the other. Her mother will be proud that her daughter is the youngest witch of power. Gretel will respect her mother as long as she doesn’t mess up their plans. Gretel’s only weaknesses will be her paranoia of losing and her greed. In the original, Gretel is the heroine who saves, not only herself, but her brother as well. Since she is no longer a protagonist, Hansel’s demise will be inevitable. I’m basically going to swap the second wife’s life for his as she will live and he will not. I plan to ruin the original happy ending.

  2. The character of Elsa in Frozen will be evil and she will want to use her powers to freeze the whole world. Elsa will be a complaint contrast to the character she is known as. She will be pure evil and power hungry. She will not love her sister, she will actually hate her for trying to do the right thing and tell Elsa to use her powers for good. This will dramatically change the plot because after her parents die Elsa will come out of hiding and be angry with by being forced to hide her identity just to protect other people. Anna tries to stop her and tell her to use her powers for good but Anna will lock Anna in the palace for disobeying the Queens orders. She will also never create Olaf and since Anna is locked away she will never meet Kristoff. Elsa will build her ice palace but no one will be able to stop her. She will be pure evil she does this because she believes that she is better than everyone since she has powers. Elsa will take, the hurt that she feels, out of over people. Being locked up and hidden way made her feel ashamed of herself and she decided to hurt over people because of it. Elsa will never feel love therefore she will never be able to thaw out the frozen land. Nothing will be the same it won’t have a classic fairy tale ending.

  3. Goldilocks and the three bears, only Goldilocks is an experienced hunter. Basically, the house owned by the bears is thought by Goldilocks to be a hunting lodge, so she comes in and eats all the food because nobody is there. Then, when the bears get home, they're a little upset about that. Long story short, all the bears are killed, and it becomes a super cool story of a radical hunter chick who takes out three giant grizzly bears WHO CAN TALK.

  4. Snow white and the Seven Dwarves. The twist is that instead of Snow White being chased by the envious Queen, who wishes to be the fairest in her Kingdom, Snow White is an assassin and a master of disguse, who tries to kill The Queen a number of times to instate a new goverment. The Dwarves are this new government, a council of seven members who hired Snow White in the first place, however, one dwarf dispises how the other six are going along his, and helps the Queen. The Prince is also involved, acting as the Queens body guard. The Prince ultimately brings down Snow White and exposes the six dwaves, but not before falling in love with Snow White, and trying to get her to change her ways, to give herself up, and to marry him.
